I forgot what topic we were even in. I thought he was predicting Kopecky would get in another fight at some point in the season....but obviously he's talking about tomorrow's game...so yeah that is an out on a limb prediction.
-
Oh wait, nevermind...i completely misread his post lol. Sorry
-
EDIT - im a moron

This YEAR? Thats not exactly an out on a limb prediction!

The reason Downey sits is because the Wings just dont value having a designated fighter in the lineup as much as other teams do. I think they're just content with him being a scratch most nights and playing occasionally. I wouldnt look any further than that. Thats been the attitude of the club for years now, if you took bets at the beginning of the season as to how long they'd keep Downey on the big club, i believe you'd have gotten a resounding vote for no more than 2 months. The reason he's gotten in so many games thus far has been because of injury, so now that everyone's coming back, they've gone back to the original plan of him being in the press box most nights. Has nothing to do with penalties imo.

Downey has 6 fights, accounting for 30 of his 48 penalty minutes. Of the 18 minutes remaining, i can recall at least one instance where another player went off with him (Fedoruk). This leaves us with a whopping 16 minutes of the "undisciplined" variety in 29 games. For a guy of his style, that is quite disciplined on the contrary. By comparison, Matt Ellis has 10 minutes of minors in his 31 games. Not one person on here would make the claim Ellis is undisciplined, so why should Downey's 6 extra minutes of minors give him that label? It doesnt.

Sorry guys, dont mean to step on any toes here, but after further consideration Foote would be a much better fit in Minnesota....the home of Paul Bunion. Oh well, he's played the heel role to us Wings fans for too long anyways. (thats an extra dry one especially for harold)
-
I guess it would be kinda weird considering the Wings had been foote's arch enemy for so long.
-
Bashing Foote are we? Put a sock in it! Who better to fill Danny Markov's Red Wing shoes on D than Adam Foote???? If he were whining....would he be Foote pouter? Just curious...
-
He's no Lemieux sure, but the guy's not a bad player whatsoever. He's a 1st rd pick and already has 2 goals in 5 games.

FYI, I did happen to be a massive wrestling fan years back and always rooted for the bad guys every time (what do ya know!)...so there might be something to that comment. I do really like games with storylines behind it....like Avery getting in Tucker's face that time in pre-game for instance. Others might view that as him just being a ****** or whatnot, while someone like me enjoys the hell out of it and pumps me for the game. I can definitely see the pro wrestling comparison. Revenge is one of my favorite aspects about hockey, to me theres probably not anything that gets me excited more than a game where theres talk of payback on somebody. The Wings and Avs rivalry wouldve existed on a hockey level no doubt, but i dont believe you see anywhere near the bad blood and all the fighting if not for Claude's cheapshot on Draper.

Mike Comrie wasnt a deadline trade...he went in very early January. I remember him being dealt off at that point in the season made no sense when it happened, which strongly leads me to believe there was something going on with him and Phoenix and Gretzky wanted him gone immediately. Mike Comrie is no stranger to having an attitude problem. This is why his value was lessened for that deal imo. As mentioned above, Campbell is much younger than Schneider was and is in his prime. I see what you're logic is but i dont think its comparable. Connolly/Campbell would have significantly more value, especially at the deadline.

Primeau also fought teammate Chris McAllister in practice when he played for the Flyers. Considering he also fought his brother Wayne before in a game, its safe to say nobody was off limits for Keith.
-
Claude Lemieux is another example. I hate the guy, but had the stuff he did never happened, we'd have been left without my greatest Wings memory (the revenge on Claude)....and one hell of a bloody rivalry. Again like Downie, i dont like Lemieux whatsoever but theres no denying things sure as hell werent the same when he left. Whether anyone wants to admit it or not, we all enjoyed Lemieux's part in the rivalry. Im not saying we should have cheapshots all the time, but from my perspective as a fan villians like this who everyone wants to see get their ass kicked is a good part of the game. If that Philly vs Ottawa game is on VS, not one of us wont be intrigued by it. I know we dont see eye to eye on this and that i wont convince you, but thats where im coming from.
-
It only a comparison if they beat the win or point mark minus the shootout victories/points. The shootout era should obviously have its own set of records.

^^ especially if Emery actually won the fight...

Im in the club as well. I enjoy watching games with guys like Downie, Tootoo, and Avery, because you know they are always going to spice things up and amp up the entertainment value of a game. That doesnt mean i like Steve Downie, just that i'd rather him be in a game than not. Theres nothing that beats the anticipation of a team getting retribution on somebody. Like him or not, villians like Downie make things more exciting.

Too much. I think they really jumped the gun on this one. Sure he has 21 goals now, but would anybody be really be surprised if he still ended up with 30 or less? A 5 year 5 million commitment for this guy is a big time reach imo.
-
Thats all ive been able to find. But no article ive read has mentioned anything about blood, so its probably a safe assumption to say there wasnt any.

I just pray a video of this surfaces...im seriously dying to know how well Emery held his own.
