  1. Todd Marchant makes 2.5 mill, which is more than double what he should be making at this point. Nobody would claim him, so the only thing you'd be accomplishing is making the guy feel like he's not wanted. Lets remember it took two passes through waivers in '05 for Anaheim to eventually claim him. And this is when he was younger and better than he is now.

    The Fight Thread

What is with Boston announcers and fight calls? Gotta love him saying at the start of the Lucic/Boll fight.."This is a legitimate heavyweight battle!" Um....no. I understand the job of the announcers is to pump up the homers, but my god, B's announcers have been horrible since i can remember.

Yep, and not coincidentally, thats how Oakland got Dan Haren in the first place. (by trading Mark Mulder to StL). From Beane's standpoint he's thinking why should i keep one star on a team thats most likely not going to win, when i can get multiple players in return for him and try to build a contender 2 or 3 years down the road.

    philadelphia flyers

Thats just the way i view it as a fan, ...even if a guy leaps 3 feet in the air i'll always rather see that than someone's head get boarded from behind. Theres that part of me inside that loves to see massive hits, whereas a boarding i get nothing out of. Im in no way saying it was clean...just that im not against Downie because of that. Just my opinion.

I dont know a whole lot about Downie, but he's not unwilling to fight....visor or not. Those are the guys i hate, the ones that try to act tough or start things and never actually fight. If he's like Tootoo, running around looking to lay people out every chance he gets, then to be honest im probably going to like him. Im not a big fan or anything, but I think Tootoo's pretty fun to watch. Downie was a 2 points per game player last year in the O, looks to me like he could definitely turn into another Sean Avery in the NHL (another guy i like). No, i dont condone the Boulerice incident...nor the Hartnell one. The Downey and Cote ones go under my "whatever..." column. Not saying Downie shouldnt have gotten suspended for it under the rules....it just doesnt bother me.

Because we all know of course, the playoff path for the Flyers entails taking out a Canuck, a Star, 2 guys from a non-playoff team last year, and the almighty Dean McAmmond
  7. No doubt this as of now, is a bad return. But we really wont truly know until everything plays out. McDonald was going to have to be moved eventually at some point because of the way Corey Perry is playing. I highly doubt anyone imagined he'd have matched his career high in goals before the halfway mark. This means alot more dollars (in upwards of possibly 1.5 -2 mill or so more than planned id guess) need to be set aside for him. Wiith Getzlaf, Pronger, Schneider/Neidermayer, Giguere already making alot...they cant really afford Andy anymore. I dont like what they got for him, but the choice probably came down between going the prospect route for him or taking someone on who might contribute for 1 yr. With Neidermayer coming back, i think they believe they can make another run, so they choose the latter option and got Weight.

Doug Weight traded to Anaheim for Andy McDonald

If this is true, there has to be some picks or a prospect or two involved here too, or the return is very puzzling! That would be the motive i'd think....i dont think anybody actually believed Corey Perry would have 17 goals already at this point in the season. He could easily end up with mid 30's or even 40, which means he's going to command significantly more than planned. I understand the trading of McDonald, i just dont get the return at all.

Dont know how many of you acctually care...

Problem with this logic is for any real baseball fan, stats and records are cherished 10x more than any other sport. Records are everything to baseball....so when you're talking about guys breaking these marks with steroids, it tarnishes the sport. Since you said baseball is boring, i can assume that this is something you wouldnt care about. But to us true fans, it matters alot. Other sports, i more than likely wouldnt give a crap either.

Steroids make a significant contribution, this IS proven. The main thing it does is increase your bat speed....which is key to power. Catch better? No. Hit better? Absolutely. Theres a reason many of the guys accused have big power jumps when they're accused of taking them...its not a coincidence. Steroids cant make a guy like you or me into a good baseball player, but they can take an average pro player and make him good. Or an already pretty good player into a big time slugger.

Yeah, in Pudge's second season is when he drastically slimmed down (and ended up resembling a bobble head!). Even though he's not in the report he's one of those guys i'll always think we'll hear his name eventually. I knew Tejada's ass would be on there, thank god we never gave in to the idea of trading Bonderman for him before. I think we even tried to sign him the year he went to Baltimore if im not mistaken....but he didnt want to come here. Eric Gagne also isnt surprising. Nook Logan mustve got ripped off when he got his!

If Bettman stepped down as commissioner....

I 100% agree with you here. Hockey was extremely entertaining to me in that time frame, nowadays comes nowhere near to matching that with me.

I wouldnt be surprised to hear Miguel Tejada's name as one of the 60-80 steroid linked players named tomorrow....just a gut feeling. Im extremely interested in the findings, i cant wait!!! Hell we could even hear some current and former Tigers named....the obvious being Pudge. Even Carlos Guillen ive had some small doubts about before...

    Schneider

Ok...lets look at the situation. A) Burke wont trade to the Wings B) The Wings would be acquiring the exact same problem Anaheim is trying to rid themselves of...too much money tied up on defense. Schneider is signed for next year...in case you didnt realize. No way, not a chance in hell of this happening.

If Bettman stepped down as commissioner....

Sorry but if you're anti-fighting, you arent a very smart hockey guy imo. This is an element thats been important to the game since forever.

If Bettman stepped down as commissioner....

Agreed on both counts. I'd be absolutely against Dryden, thats what i was going to post when i seen his name first mentioned here. HELL NO.

    2008 NFL Draft Thread

Forget about Brohm going to Atlanta at #4 with Petrino leaving for the Arkansas job. Brohm that high is crazy anyway..he is NOT that good. Bears also wont be taking Matt Ryan, they'll be either signing Derek Anderson or trading for McNabb. Anderson will be restricted but Cle wont match a big offer already having Quinn. They'll end up with somebody's first and third probably as compensation.

    WOW

He has done well against Laraque in his career, but that was quite a long time ago if im remembering correctly. I think Laraque would beat him handily now. He just doesnt do much of anything any more, never seems to have any notable wins and loses more often than that not when taking on the decent and above heavies. To me he's just become a bottom rung heavy over time.
  21. Lou_Siffer

    WOW

Parros flattened him in the end for the TKO. For a guy his size, Jody Shelley just is not very good. If not for the fact he's been on Columbus for so long and is a big crowd favorite, I highly doubt he'd still be in the NHL.

    12/10 GDT: Red Wings 2, Predators 1

I have a good feeling about this game, i'm expecting a good game and a chippy affair! Its a given Downey is going to go after Tootoo at some point, but my prediction is Tootoo declines and Hordichuk (if he plays) comes flying to the rescue and has a wild fight with Downey. I'd pick Hordichuk to probably win but it should be a very spirited and entertaining one. I could definitely then see Tootoo trying to pick a fight with Kopecky, (Tootoo thus drawing even more ire of the LGW faithful!) I think they end up having a go with Jordin roughing him up.

    PeeWee Hockey fight

None of the kids even dropped their gloves? I guess they probably couldnt afford to go to Boogaard's fight camp, so they got stuck at the Maltby school instead.

Ducks could trade Schneids if Neidermeyer returns

They said on HNIC that Burke already has a deal ready, probably with Atlanta judging by the article, and it would be announced within the next few days. Its a tough spot, because obviously Schneider is the one that should go, but they may be forced to lose Beauchemin because of the free agency reason.
