McCarty: "I'm not going to put up with Tootoo"

Me as well...hopefully he'd kick his ass but after seeing Mac against McIver its not out of the realm of possiblities that Tootoo could actually win. I think we could see anything from that to Tootoo turtling and deciding not to fight back at all... probably for the powerplay, or even just for the hell of it cause thats what pests do. It would be totally up in the air i think. I'd like to see the Wings build up a big ol' lead today to really jumpstart some hatred between the two teams.

Great job by the pen. Doesnt make me feel any better mind you, but one step at a time i guess. I know it sounds silly cause we just got the guy, but could it already be time to move Jacque Jones? I dont know, he just doesnt seem to fit for me. I'd rather have Clete and Thames as the platoon when Granderson comes back. Maybe we could garner a semi decent relief pitcher, or even just a prospect reliever with a little bit of potential for down the road. Main thing it does is keep Clete here, and id like to get Raburn back up here at some point.

    Hockey players that resemble entertainers

    Your possible first round upsets?

I like Philly, but thats really not an upset. As for a true blue upset, Im going with Boston. Yeah they got whooped on in the regular season, but the playoffs are whole new ballgame with lots of added pressure. I just see Montreal falling flat on their face as a top seed. Goaltending will need to be very strong for the B's, but i think they'll eek out some low scoring wins.

    Maggie's predictions

Maggie must really be looking forward to the Flames/Sharks series the way she whipped that wheel around. Reminded of the losers on Price is Right who'd always try to be big and bad by spinning it as hard as they could. I heard Swayze is predicting a some dirty dancing for Lilja this postseason

    The Fight Thread

I hadnt been tracking the FM's really aside from the top few teams, but i thought between Downey and Drake we might be able to creep up from dead last...even just one spot. I think the biggest misleading thing is the Canucks being way up there near the top....they arent that tough. Most of the guys who got their fight totals up like McIver spent alot of time in the minors and they never really iced that tough of a team. By the way, almost didnt recognize you with the new av!

    Game 1 Forward Lineup

Downey also hits...dont forget that. Are you discounting the importance of that in the playoffs? Just how many goals do you expect out of the 4th line, seriously? They are there for energy and to do some damage physically when they do get ice time. Odds are significantly higher that Downey would do something to ignite the team than someone like Hartigan in limited action.

can the Predators upet the Red Wings?

That sounds like it, i dont recall exactly but i know where there were quite a few guys involved including Hartnell, Grier, and Hannan.

Fighting, Keep it or leave it?

I was the first vote. Why would the poll starter who's taking a survey for his paper vote in his own poll...

Fighting, Keep it or leave it?

Keep it. Key point: Removing it will gain ZERO fans. How many people do you know do not watch hockey because it has fighting in it? However, remove it and you will most definitely lose alot of fans....including myself. While it is not the only reason i watch the sport, it is of vital importance. Knowing that a fight could break out at any moment adds that special edge to the sport that keeps you on your toes at all times. Thats what i love the most, the anticipation you feel when things start to get chippy. Most of the people in the sports media world who bash the NHL and claim it as barbaric because it has fighting would continue to not watch the sport even if fighting were eliminated. Its just the most obvious thing for them to pick on about a game they will never care about regardless of rule changes.

I heard it, but to me it just sounding like a small group that happened to be right by the broadcast booth. You know how every once in a while you can hear one drunk guy screaming something loud and clear? Well thats what it was like.

    2008 Detroit Tigers Season Thread

I think thats a very unfair statement when it comes to pitchers. Theres a big difference between a hockey player gutting out some pain to play and a pitcher with a messed up shoulder or elbow putting his entire career on the line with every throw. Not to mention, in most cases the guy cant even throw at all anyway. Pitchers with injured arms is far more serious business than what hockey players play through. Zumaya is said to be back by August at the earliest, but imo he wont be effective whatsoever even if he does return,... and he wont be for a LONG while...if he ever is again. His days of throwing 100 are done.

    The Avs sucker

There will be a time and game where the oppurtunity presents itself. No, it will not happen in game 1 of a close game, but once any game turns into a 3 or more goal differential and Lappy hits the ice, its go time as an instigator and/or long powerplay wont matter.

    The Avs sucker

Im glad as well, before this i had no interest whatsoever in this series....now at least theres some build up.
  25. Lou_Siffer

    The Avs sucker

Lappy better just stay on the bench the first time one of their games becomes lopsided...if it aint Boogaard it'll be Simon, if it aint Simon it'll be Fedoruk. No matter how you slice theres a beating a coming his way at some point.
