Since you usually like to do this : In Samuelsson's first year (not counting the 4 games for SJ), he scored 6 goals in 67 games. Kopecky so far has 0, including some games where he played on the 2nd line. From what ive seen I'd peg his upside AT BEST in the 8-10 range. 15-25?? Not a chance imo.

Oops...Backes is out! Guess im stuck with Mayers now.
-
The Giants are a fraud imo. For everyone that says the Lions havent beaten anybody (which i wont argue), 4 of the Giants wins have come against the 4 worst teams in the league....San Francisco, Miami, the Jets, and the Falcons. Only one of their victories is a quality one, and that was at Washington. I believe Green Bay would roll the Giants if they played again, especially at Lambeau, thats a not a team you should fear. All it will take is two losses in a row for that team to fall into their yearly Coughlin turmoil again.
-
Pittsburgh also lost at Arizona. Im not saying we shouldnt have beaten them...but s*** happens. As long as we continue to win our home games and win in Minnesota, thats all that matters. This was one of those losses i expected, cant win in Az just like in Washington...no biggie. Now if we lose against the Giants next week, then we may be in trouble. This one is must win...im confident!

Yeah I thought about Brewer, but i like the odds better going with a forward vs a defenseman as its more likely to happen. Plus Backes has fought 2 dmen so far this year, so i gotta go with it! Lilja vs Backes...take it to the bank! (if hes not playing then he'll be Mayers punching bag)

The problem ive had with Kopecky is that he wasnt playing the role i expect out of a 4th line grinder type. Criticism isnt just for the top echelon guys. He may not have been making big errors, but he wasnt doing much physically to make his presence in the lineup warranted. And when you have a guy that will guaranteed play that role in Downey being scratched, it just makes Kopecky catch the heat for it. Babcock said it himself when he scratched him that "Kopecky needs to play tougher". He's come out and done that since....which is great and what he needs to do, I just have reservations as to whether this intensity will keep up.
-
We still may not actually past 10 fights. Kopecky might be good for one more down the line, and Lilja is no given to even drop 'em once. I dont know how long it takes a face to heel to the point you can take punches, but i'd imagine it'd be a pretty long time for Drake. Now its looking as if Downey will play very sparingly, and i have a feeling he wont even be here in another 2 months. If theres some injuries and Downey can start playing more regularly, then we'll smash it for sure. Alright, i'll take a shot and see how it works out. Lilja will fight DJ Ki.......nah better make that Mayers next game. On third thought....better make that David Backes.

Nice to have Jones back, and very good trade getting the other Jones. I remember when he was on Minnesota how i always wanted to see him here. Wouldve rather dealt for Ibanez, but he wouldve costed more than Infante...who was very expendable. 1 yr left on his deal...perfect. But of course, none of this really matters unless we add some damn arms to the pen! Disappointed to see Lidge actually get dealt to the Phillies. Dont know anything about what they got in return...but he wouldve been great to have. At this point i think you have to have the mindset of replacing Zumaya altogether. Lidge wouldve been that ideal guy.

Kopecky showed nothing like this last season. Hey, Im all for guys who are willing to scrap and hit, so if he keeps this up i dont have any problem with being in the lineup. But lets still keep things in check here...he has still yet to show any goal scoring potential at all to this point. I dont really see how you can peg his upside as a possible 2nd liner...or even 3rd for that matter. HAHA! Somehow i missed this post the first time through.

Ok so i was one game off, but i still kinda predicted this
-
Told us? So all along you were just hyping him up as a 4th line grinder? Hmmm...couldve fooled me! This is the role i said Kopecky has to play to have any chance in the NHL. He wont score any goals, so he needs to hit on a consistent basis (consistent being the key word) and drop the gloves on occasion to warrant being in there. Prior to being scratched, he wasnt doing either....so hopefully this is the wake up and he's going to keep this up. We'll see...im not exactly sold that he will, but after last night at the very least i'd rather him play over Ellis and caged Drake. So thats at least progress!

Unfortunately for him though, in NY he'll have no oppurtunities to engrave any silver. He's not exactly a diamond in the rough himself though...

Both were massive upsets, I dont dispute that. Hell, after Michigan lost to Oregon i was beginning to wonder if App St was even an upset at all! But with the way things turned out, it does go down as the biggest imo. But the point is, even if we agreed that the two upsets were of equal nature, it still doesnt change the fact that a Division II team walked into the Big House and won. It does not matter who's better between Stanford and App St, it will ALWAYS boil down to the stigma of UM losing to a Div II squad. As for USC remaining in the top 10, its for all the reasons already given by myself and timothy.

The bad thing though is that they wont be able to return him if he doesnt fit, since they mustve found Meyer on the clearance rack while shopping the waiver wire. NY is always looking to add more Aisles like Meyer though. How much is his celery anyway? Anyone know?
-
No way Nick said that....come on now! I cant even imagine him saying that. Nick's one of those guys who no matter what player you bring up, he'll always respond "Thats up to the management, whatevers best for the team they'll do"... [insert more cliches].
-
Probably so I could post this... If Meyer dove and drew a penalty, would he get an Oscar?
-
You had 89x on! I remember that being played at that time (which is pretty sad on my part!) I look forward to the throwback songs just to shake things up, i swear to god its like i know the words to every single song in their everyday rotation. All 10 of them! I think theyve been playing "Let It Die" by 3 Days Grace 15 times a day for the past 6 months. I do really like the song but come on now...how about a little variety boys!

Good post timothy. Youre exactly right on in how getting upset early like that will make you drop further. When you lose your first game like that, everyone says hey...maybe this team is no good this year. So they plummet in the rankings. Also one more thing regarding the pointspreads....you cant use this as a guage to determine which upsets are bigger. Pointspeads are used to even out betting money. Michigan is a team that is known not to run the score up, and typically doesnt annihilate weak opponents by really big margins. Had UM been giving App St 41, way too much money wouldve gone in that direction. Michigan is a running team, that would be a terrible bet. Just 27 though makes it a tough call. USC on the other hand, shows no mercy and will continue piling it on even when up by 40. Them beating a team by 60pts is a likely scenario. Add on to that the fact Harbaugh mouthed off a little about USC and you had all the makings of a merciless destruction...hence the 40 pt spread. That high of a spread made more people bet with Stanford just because.....and that is the point of the spreads.

lol i got 1 as well. For whatever reason, the only day i do pretty good on is Saturday. On Friday i dont think ive ever been better than .500, usually really s***ty, and on Sundays i seem to go always go winless! and true to form, ive only lost 1 so far tonight...and it was the one game i saved for last to think about. Watch...guaranteed i lose both game tomorrow.

I remember when Avery first started out how bad of a fighter he was. He was still great regardless though because every time he stepped on the ice something notable seemed to happen. Either he drew a penalty, threw a nice hit or two, or got in a fight! His fighting ability has come a long way over the years, not that he's great at it mind you, but he can definitely handle himself pretty well with the middleweights.
-
Yeah that does seem pretty crazy. Maybe Lance strong-armed her into a date...
-
To me Avery is one of the most entertaining players in the league. I screamed and bitched when we traded him,.... i also really wish he was still here.
-
Its not even close dude. Illinois is far from the doormat theyve been in the past. Are you aware they were 6-3 going in and have wins over Wisconsin and Penn St, and a narrow loss to #7 Missouri? Thats a hell of alot more credible then just being " at least division 1".
-
Not even in the same stratosphere of upsets as App St and Stanford....but a big one nonetheless. Glad this happened, because OSU wouldve gotten slapped in the title game again by LSU this time anyway. Would rather see Kansas make it, they may get whooped but they at least have a good cinderella story behind them.

USC was regarded, and justifiably so, as being better than Michigan. Just because they were a bigger favorite in their game doesnt mean they should drop the same amount as UM. We're talking about a consistent championship contender for the past what, 5 years? Its only natural they would be cut more slack...I dont see what the problem is. Its an opinion poll, just because USC lost to Stanford wont make everyone suddenly believe there are 20 teams better than the Trojans. Its all about perception, UM didnt have the recognition that USC did. You may not agree, but thats the benefit of being a consistently great team.
