    The Fight Thread

I have to give it to Brashear via TKO, but Laraque is still the #1 fighter. I already have had Brash at #2 for a long while, but it was definitely a shaky 2. This victory solidifies it.

    The Fight Thread

How about Taylor friggin Pyatt earning at minimun a solid draw with Ivanans last night? Thats one of those moments where i dont know what to take from it. Either Ivanans looked like s***, or Pyatt was so inspired by the fact he was sticking up for Sedin...similar to someone heroicly lifting up a car! Pyatt's fought before, but this just surprised the s*** outta me. Ivanans isnt exactly the greatest heavyweight in the world, but anything other than him killing Pyatt is a huge upset! You could even make a case that he got the edge, but i'll go with draw. What about the Lucic/Tarnasky fight? That was a good ol' fashioned ass whooping. I had to watch it over and over laughing at the domination. Unbelievable this kid is only 19 years old.

    Short article on Downey.

Lucic is going NOWHERE. Why the hell would Boston trade him? He looks tough as hell and has skill. Not to mention the Boston fans, who love fighting and are probably comparing him to Cam Neely as we speak, would riot.

    Downey fight last night

I can understand the SJ announcers doing that, McLaren did get a couple shots in and the fight was close. In a close fight the broadcasters are always going to lean towards their guy. On the flip side one could question how the Free Press would label this as a short one sided fight for Downey. Hardly the lopsided win they made it out to be. Alot of people just are incapable of putting homerism aside when it comes to judging fights.

    Short article on Downey.

Its really great to hear it from a skilled european player like this. If the comments came from a guy like Cleary itd be nice, but would have nowhere near the impact on the people here. I love the fact that Zetterberg, a european guy who'd never ever fight himself, sees the benefit of it. It goes right along with what guys like us have been saying, how guys fighting and sticking up for each other is beneficial to momentum and morale. One of my other favorite pro fight comments was from Teemu Selanne 2 seasons ago, who pointed to the Beauchemin win over Iginla as the turning point of their playoff series. Hank just earned alot of points with me! I have no problem with getting an upgrade in the fighting department, but what are the realistic odds that the Wings will use a guy who's a legit heavy? (and god forbid...not the greatest skater in the world, which most obviously arent) The Downey/Roy types is really the best we're going to do in that area.

I feel the Zetterberg comments are so significant for us pro fight guys that i decided to replace my one about Holland! Now i'll be able to point to it all year when someone says fights have no impact on a game...I love it.

10/20 GDT: Red Wings 5, Phoenix Coyotes 2

I dont post very often in the GDTs, but the moderator's note i agree with 100%. Thats basically the reason i rarely go in there, when you try and reply to someone or ask a question and within 5 minutes your post is buried under 3 pages of 1 word posts...you figure whats the point.
  9. My friend and i each predicted game by game the Lions season before it started..so far im 5 for 5, so take it to the bank....LIONS 27- BUCS 20 If we cant beat these guys with their old coaching staff coming off a bye, then thats going to spell probable disaster the rest of the way. All games are important, but this one in particular they HAVE to win.

Drake out with a fractured cheekbone

Exactly YG, im glad someone agreed with me. If not for the fights, you wouldnt even know he's on the team. Right now, the only use he has (which is valuable one of course imo), is bringing toughness to the lineup. Having an injured cheekbone with a cage on completely takes that aspect away...so you're left with JUST as you said, basically another Kopecky. I also agree that Drake doesnt seem to be doing much in the way of good hits so far, and you of course have to expect that with a broke cheekbone and cage thats not going to start up any time soon. So yeah...his regular playing days should be done until he's 100% healthy. Maybe the odd game here and there, but thats it.

    Finally Downey is playing

Time to admit you were flat out wrong about the Downey fight not having an impact on the game eva...or are you going to disagree with the european star player on the team?

Drake out with a fractured cheekbone

Illogical? Dude, what are you watching? Lets face it, take away the 3 fights and Drake has played quite poorly so far. Need i remind you that he has 1 pt and is -5? Wasnt he also benched at one point? Playing with a cage on is going to take away the aggressiveness...so what he does he have left to offer without that? For this team... Downey >> Drake with a cage on

Drake out with a fractured cheekbone

Sorry but at this point in his career Drake is useless with a cage on. There is no question at all that Aaron Downey should be played over a caged Drake, so hopefully this buys Aaron some more playing time here. This is something that even the anti- Downey guys have to agree with..

    Souray out for 3 weeks

Someone must have suprisingly turtled to him....poor guy.

    Souray out for 3 weeks

    So his shoulder's Sore...eh?
  17. Problem with that is Kopecky is not a physical winger....he's done absolutely nothing in the NHL to show that so far. Cleary plays a more physical game than Kopecky does easily. I'd much rather see him with Datsyuk than Tomas. In my opinion eva, i think you're just having a problem admitting that Kopecky sucks (since he was a guy you've been talking up alot for a while)...and thats why you'd like to see him with Datsyuk. Just so he might get some garbage points. Nothing personal, but thats the way im seeing it.

    Doan requests trade ?

You never know! Maybe he was unsure of whether he wanted to leave and figured he'd see what the team looked like after the offseason and camp. So he signed a very reasonable contract so it'd be a piece of cake for them to move him. For Phoenix worst case scenario is they keep him and they continue to have a face to their organization to build around. Best case, some team opens up the farm for him and they make out big time by getting multiple players for him to help their rebuilding effort.

    Doan requests trade ?

I agree the rumor seems real fishy, but in regards to the bolded part....what would fetch them more in return: Doan as a rental soon to be free agent? Or Doan signed to a very reasonable 5 year contract? Definitely the latter.

    Doan requests trade ?

In that case Lollipop, you're a dum dum. only kidding of course
  21. Lou_Siffer

    Doan requests trade ?

Phoenix is not going to take Sammy and Kronwall. Theyre going to get a ton of offers, its hard to think thats the best they could do. I think we need to forget about Sammy, if Phoenix is dumping Doan they are in absolute 100% total rebuild mode...which they are now but they'll officially have no hope on the year! They'll want multiple young guys with potential for Doan.. Sammy doesnt qualify. If he were to go in the deal, it would basically be like Atlanta throwing in Metropolit in the Tkachuk trade. Obviously Sammy is better than him, but point being he'd just be a body going the other way and has no real impact on the trade. They're still going to want the same caliber of prospects whether or not he's included.
  22. Lou_Siffer

    Doan requests trade ?

True, but the fact that you have an oppurtunity to get a guy like this for what is a bargain salary in today's market for 5 years....you have to be willing to part with whatever it takes. With Zetterberg's extension coming in the future, theyre not going to get anybody who can have this type of impact in free agency. Im not so sure they go for Kronwall, as he still really hasnt shown that he's worth his deal. For that reason his trade value isnt as high as alot of people think imo. Also the fact so many people here are willing to give him up is evidence of that! Its still fairly high, but not what it once was. But guys like Filppula and Kindl? Peace out as far as im concerned.
  23. Lou_Siffer

    Teams looking for help

I disagree with that. Filppula has far more trade value than Sammy i think. Hudler does as well, although not by as big a margin.
  24. Lou_Siffer

    Doan requests trade ?

Doan is easily worth the 5 year 23 million extension he signed. Roughly 4 and half mill a year...how is that breaking the bank? He is EXACTLY what this team needs....fits the criteria to a tee! Obviously Zetterberg and Datsyuk arent going anywhere, but there is nothing else in the organization that shouldnt be given up to make this happen.

    Boulerice place on waivers

Agreed. That is the one thing about that clip that kinda bugs me, people automatically assume Downey is the better fighter because of it. Although not by leaps and bounds, Boulerice is a better fighter....Downey just had his number that day.
