I know it'll definitely hurt their forward depth, but its simply a matter of the void on defense being more important. It wasnt good enough last season, and now Hannan is gone so it'll be even worse. Theres a couple pretty good guys in the mix there, but its clearly lacking that #1 guy. And given that i dont particularly like Nabakov, it makes defense all the more important. Neither Markov nor Sutton is a good enough acquisition either. So if they can get a premier guy for Marleau...they almost have to do it...and worry about adding a forward later on.

Works for San Jose, thats for damn sure. Nothing against Marleau, but they are in dire need of someone like Redden. The fact that they havent signed any d-men yet makes me think the shopping Marleau rumors are legit, however in this case, i dont see Ottawa doing that..

True, but I dont believe the need for a big bat last season was as significant as the need for a big arm in the pen this season. Casey was all i even wanted last deadline. There wasnt a need for Abreu and Soriano. This year though, while the pen has pitched well lately, the wheels could easily fall off at any time. Its still shaky. I dont exactly like the idea of putting alot of stock into the arm of Zach Miner...considering how he fell off after a good start last year. Macay McBride i think is pretty good, as he was also pretty good for Atl, but the jury is really out on Capellan. Again, is this the kinda young guy you wanna instill faith into? Not me. If Zumaya doesnt come back, who's the go to stopper? There isnt one. Now, you may bring up Lidge's confidence issues, but I believe last year was an abberation coming off the loss of the '05 series. This year, his numbers are back to being really good. This team is in such a position that we arent mortgaging the future. We have 3 young stud arms on the big club, most teams are lucky to have 1. Barring serious injuries, we are all set there. Trahern or any other young arm not named Porcello can be cut loose for that reason. Gorkys Hernandez is supposed to be our #2 outfield prospect. We already have Cameron Maybin who i firmly believe is cant miss, plus we have Granderson up here who's getting better and better. Those are two guys right there who can fetch us something really good in return, and not even hurt us long term. Last deadline was different, because we didnt know for sure what we had in a guy like Andrew Miller. Now that we know he's the real deal, it makes other young pitchers in the minors expendable. I havent heard yet whos starting the double header game tomorrow, i know Leyland said theyre calling somebody up. Ive got a feeling this could be a spot for a deadline showcase start for Jordan Tata.

Considering Samsonov has yet to play a game with the Hawks, you must be psychic I think the fact a fight that didnt even happen makes a list shows how much we need a fighter!

Well they definitely signed Schneider with the thought that Niedermayer is retiring, because that is a ton of money to have invested in your blue line. Im not sure when Getzlaf and Perry are due up, if its in 2 years then they'll be fine with Schneider and Bertuzzi coming off the books.

Simon had 10 goals and 17 assists last season...which is about the same stats as someone like Franzen. How do you figure he's washed up and unable to score? Im sure it contributed a small amount, but he still couldve easily gotten more somewhere else.

Dombrowski's not a stand pat guy though, I'd be shocked if he did. There's just no way he chances going into the late season without a big gun in the pen. (im not counting Zumaya, obviously) Especially when we do have assets that we can afford to trade like Trahern and a guy like Gorkys Hernandez.

Those 2 are going NOWHERE for a long time. (theres no comparison between Clowe and Laperrierre either by the way)

Oh, ok...i guess that makes sense. But still, it would seem you'd get less energy from fat than carbs,...but i have no idea. Honestly i think most of these diets are done by people as a way around exercising. People are just too damn lazy!

You guys may not like the network, but between ESPNews and the variety of programs on ESPN and Classic, I really do. So what if they show things like darts and dominoes, what the hell else is there to put on during the day? They arent choosing these things over hockey, they're choosing to air more popular things like college basketball in what used to be the hockey timeslots. How can you blame them? What a coincidence...some of the more popular big named teams! Imagine that! I can guarantee you if you owned a network you'd care about ratings as well. What possible good comes out of them showing Kansas City? As we've seen with the Tigers, build your team into something of value and they'll air you. The Tigers used to NEVER be on.

If he retires, the D will not be as good as least year...but the addition of Shane Hnidy definitely helps bolster the bottom end of it. He's a huge upgrade over Huskins or Dipenta. Beauchemin is also a top 2 caliber defenseman imo, so they'll still be a good group with him and Pronger leading the way. If Neidermayer does stick around, they will have easily one of the best defenses in recent memory. Neidermayer - Beauchemin Pronger - Schneider Hnidy - O'Donnell That is sick. Not exactly young so the window would be fairly short, but for next season you wouldnt find anything even remotely close to being better.

One thing ive always wondered about Atkins and other low carb diets is your energy level. If you're getting so few carbs, wouldnt your energy be really low?

Yep, exactly what ive said in other threads. Saving 4 or 5 million in cap space can be a good strategy if you actually are willing to give up high picks and prospects. But when you're only willing to go so high with your offers, as we've seen with the WIngs, its not only an unproductive strategy but also doesnt make sense.

Have you guys heard the small rumblings about the Tigers being interested in Dontrelle Willis? Supposedly the Tigers and Mets would be leading the charge if he's available. That one makes NO sense. They better not do something stupid like trade Andrew Miller for him or something...i'd go insane! One name i'm eyeing aside from Lidge is another Astro in Mark Loretta. Release Neifi Perez and make a move for him. He's a hell of alot better hitter (career near .300 avg), and can play all infield positions. Perfect, reliable utility guy and as good as an insurance policy you can possibly have for the stretch run. That combo would cost us alot, but to me it feels like the last 2 pieces of the puzzle.

I wouldnt say it puts them in the s***s. I bet Burke's not afraid to deal any of them except for Getzlaf if it came down to it.
