Hey, that comment is not very kosher of you.
-
How does that work? I thought even if you demoted someone to the minors you still had to pay him what he's signed for?
-
I agree. I mean even if you're following the Ducks just to root against them every game, you're not going to find a more entertaining team to watch that offers everything. They have skill, they hit, they fight a ton, have great goaltending, etc.

I dont have much doubt that the Rangers will find a way to keep Avery, even if it means dealing somebody.
-
Avery is one former WIng that i'd actually want back. Of course, it wont happen though.

Well, if the biggest Osgood fan around in you is just calling it a draw....that for sure means he lost Even if thats the case, the difference is Roy's punches were packing alot more mustard behind them than Osgood's were. Osgood didnt do much at all aside from getting a takedown in the end.

Good post, but i still disagree. We could easily see the exact same scenario play out again, with numerous buyers and few sellers. What if teams like Washington or i dont know, Florida are suprisingly good and take the place of last season's Nashville and look to overpay for a big name at the deadline? Just because Nashville or the Islanders might not be buying doesnt mean other teams wont just take their place. Hell even someone like St Louis could end up a buyer...who knows. I doubt any team will be scared to step up and overpay just because of what happened last season, theres new suckers born every year is what im trying to say. I think its a fair statement, going by Holland's recent actions and comments, that they are not going to fork over high picks and prospects. Instead, they'll look once again to sit back and wait for whatever they can get cheaply...which in my eyes will be an underacheiving, overpriced veteran who has very few suitors. I dont see it being someone like David Legwand. Well, it obviously depends who its for. Im really not even arguing that the Wings should sell the farm for somebody, my issue is really with the initial post saying theyre setting themselves up to get any forward they want at the deadline. How is that a plausible thought when they arent willing to fork over big packages for anybody...thats all im saying.

The REAL Sharks logo, not the "leaked" prototype

How can it be that the Sharks dont have one finn on their roster? Its unnatural. -
What do you call a firework stuck up someone's ass? a Roman colon! He got traded today for a ptbnl, as a result of his blowing up at Toledo last month.

Doesnt look like many Jaws are dropping over this

Im not necessarily saying they should sign Sutton, but theres room. If you sign Sutton for say, 3.5...and deal Lilja for whatever draft pick you can get (just to dump his salary), that'll help offset it. There would be zero need for Lilja at the point Sutton were signed. Like ive said in this thread, theres no use in the Wings saving 4 million or whatever for the deadline when they arent willing to part with the packages it'll take to land a big name or two (healthy is the key). They'll get outbid every time just like last time. Not much point to it...might as well spend most of it now.

I always like your GR input Coyote! I had a feeling Kopecky was one of those types. I never got to see much of him in GR though. This is a bad situation for him then, cause he wont be playing anybody tough like that at all.
-
I think its a given that San Jose will overpay for either Sutton, Markov, or Sopel....probably more likely the first two. They were already shaky on defense and lost their best defenseman, actually i wouldnt be surprised to see them end up with two of the 3 if the cap permits.
-
The Wings have turned conservative in the cap era. How many times have we heard Holland say the Wings wont be giving up all the picks like they used to? Or trading top prospects? We've heard numerous times! Look at what the prices were for the guys last year like Tkachuk and Guerin. Why would it be any different next deadline? A barrage of high picks plus prospects is what all the teams with coveted guys will be asking for again. I see zero reason to believe Holland will suddenly change his tune and offer up huge packages.
-
Ok, so they sign Sopel and have Lilja available to trade. What the hell is that gonna get you at the deadline? We've already seen this play out, Detroit will not give up top prospects and 1st rd picks for guys that are coveted at the deadline. They may be able to get a higer salaried guy that no one else wants for a smaller package, or someone thats injured like Bertuzzi was, but to make the claim that they'll get anybody they want is off the mark considering what the Wings are willing to give up.
-
Please explain how. It will be a re-run of last trade deadline, all the top names (healthy ones) will be commanding 1st rd picks and/or talented prospects in return. As we've learned, the Wings will not meet those demands. So dont be fooled by the fact they may have cap room or an extra body to deal on defense. It wont matter.
-
Kopecky could be a type who plays a little rougher style of play when he's got someone like Bootland with him. Similar to the way Maltby used to play a ton chippier (not fighting of course, but still...) when McCarty was there. But, it goes without saying there wont be anyone like that out there with him on this team. So i guess we're left with Kobecky being a girly man.
-
Play it under NHL rules i might care, but not if its the international crap.
-
But more often than not, even if said guy isnt pursuing an enforcer role, when he comes up to the NHL he will be fighting initially to make an impression. In Kopecky's case, he just didnt do anything.
-
From what i seen, in 28 games Kopecky was not once even close to being in a fight. And for someone who's supposed to be trying to make an impression...that was extremely disappointing. Add on to that the 1pt, not hitting as much as people seem to think he did, and you have the reason why I always rag on him. In no way, shape, or form can i understand anybody calling that fight a win for Osgood. I dont mean to single you out YG, cause i know theres others here that think he won as well, but its a really bias call.
-
I dont know why any of you would look at big names like Hossa. We're in for exactly the same story next offseason, guys like that will not be considered. Money will go to a goaltender, and thats it other than the guys re-signing.
-
Its nice to see that teams like Anaheim feel completely the opposite of you. Oh, that was that team that had numerous fighters and won the cup...in case you forgot already. I hope you enjoyed watching them hoist it on your 70" plasma.
-
Yeah good point, I just cant understand how in the world Cro Cop loses to Mark Hunt. I forgot about that one. Granted i know Mark is a tough K-1 guy with a head of stone, but come on, losing to him in an MMA fight? Speaking of the open weight thing, thats something i miss about the UFC. They should have some open tourneys like that too. Just something about a matchup like Fedor vs Matt Lindland really peaks my interest. Although, obviously the ending there wasnt in doubt lol. But i like the novelty of seeing two guys in different weight classes going at it. I used to really like Griffin, but after he got whooped by Keith Jardine that was the end of that! St Pierre losing to Matt Serra was really bad too...to go from dominating Hughes to that??
-
Also, the fact that you think Drake addresses a toughness need to begin with makes your name calling look even more foolish.
-
Hardly. For anybody like myself thats been complaining they want someone who fights, that complaint still hasnt been addressed. So yep..i think i'll keep bitching about it.
