Exactly, I dont think he would either. His actions for going after each will have two completely different perceptions by the other GMs. I think im gonna have to follow your thinking and take a step back from this thread...over the course of an hour ive really pumped myself over the thought of getting him! Better calm down and re-enter reality or im setting myself up for another huge letdown... just like i always do! lol
-
Just as I expected.. 4 million per for Handzus? Good god.
-
I think somebody just signed Zubrus thank god. Yeah...i figured i'd bring it back for ya rather than start a new one since you were the one who originally mentioned Penner (plus i came down on the idea..) The reason Penner makes more sense than Vanek is A) he's a huge powerforward and most importantly B) its a justifiable situation to target Anaheim's RFA. I cant see Holland doing that with Vanek.
-
Putting faith in Getzlaf, Perry, Penner, etc is a little different than putting faith in the guys you're talking about. This isnt meant to knock someone like Flip mind you, I just dont think its a good comparison.
-
Buffalo's gotta have some cash lying around to match though dont they? I dont know their exact numbers but Anaheim seems like they might have a problem doing so. Plus, im just biased towards obviously Penner and would rather have him!
-
Cool. Then at the very least, make him a nice big offer just so Anaheim has to pay him more. I'd honestly give Holland some kudos for once for showing some stones. I also think this is an instance where other GMs wouldnt frown upon him for going after an RFA, given Bertuzzi and Schneider it seems justified.
-
Problem is, thats an offer Anaheim will be able to match. You're going to have to REALLY overpay for him...but hell i'd rather drastically overpay for someone with a ton of potential than for someone like Guerin or Shanahan.
-
I just noticed Henka's post from last week, can anyone confirm if Penner is still a RFA or did he already re-sign?
-
I'd be comfortable throwing big bucks at Penner, hell with the picks. I think he's worth it.
-
Well, i realize im going completely against what i said earlier in this thread....but after recent developments, if Holland really has some balls he should play hardball and make a big offer to Penner. One that Anaheim will really have to think twice about matching if theyre getting near the cap.
-
Im talking about overall...I think the team will be as good as last years. Getzlaf will become a star imo, Penner and Perry will continue to improve, and also Ryan could be good if he joins. For defense, i dont think Beauchemin has really hit his peak yet either. Im just saying with those in-house improvements, it kinda offsets the downgrade of Schneider/Bertuzzi vs Niedermayer/Selanne.
-
Downgrade yes, but considering all the young talent they have that will assuredly become even better next season i think it becomes a wash in the end.
-
After Guerin's hoodini act in the playoffs...I dont want him anymore, ESPECIALLY not for that 4 mill you mentioned.
-
4 mill for Guerin? No way. Hell 2 more mill and you couldve had Ryan Smyth! What the hell sense does that make?
-
Selanne must be retiring
-
Just great... no, no, and no....next?
-
Im also betting they overpaid handsomely. This reeks of a team who tried to get the big guns to come but became desperate afterwards and just threw money at what was left. The awful just became above awful.

I doubt Preds fans are going bonkers over this. Devries is ok but Bonk certainly wont be filling any voids.

In honor of this great day, I found it fitting to come up with a new song patterned after the New Year's classic midnight tune, Auld Lang Syne. Be sure to sing along to the beat. Old Lang Signed Should old acquaintance be forgot, And never brought to mind? Let old acquaintance be forgot, Now that old Lang signed. Chorus: For old Lang signed, my friends, For old Lang signed, We'll all go pray for Hawk fans yet, For do-Lang is not so fine. And surely he will play alot, maybe on their top line, But i'll toast to him a beer or two, Because he's not on mine. Chorus: For old Lang signed, my friends, For old Lang signed, We'll all go pray for Hawk fans yet, For du-Lang is not so fine.

The Colorado rivalry had died off long before they became not good. (but I more blame both sides for that) My point is even if these other teams were good though, the rivalry still wouldnt be there imo. I understand totally what you're saying, but you still have to have guys who'll fight in place to begin with. If you have that in place, who knows where you're next rival can come from! Who woulda thought Colorado wouldve became that team back in the day? Maybe the regular season games between the Wings and Ducks couldve been really heated and became something...who knows. The Preds had alot of fighters, maybe that couldve been became good as well. Without the fighters, you have no chance for one...thats what im saying. (and no, when i say fighters...im not just talking about guys like Boogaard)
-
if thats all thats left i'll take Bertuzzi and Asham. Hopefully a 3rd via trade at some point. Its unfortunate we couldnt get Smyth, he'd have been huge to have with Zetterberg. I disapproved strongly of the Datsyuk extension for this very reason.
-
Passion, in turn, leads to fights. Umm...Detroit/Colorado, yep...that rivalry was loaded with ECHL'ers. Funny how the Wings havent had anything thats even came close to a rivalry since theyve abandoned fighting for the most part. (do not say Nashville...)
-
No. When will people understand this...YOU CAN NOT HAVE A HOCKEY RIVALRY WITHOUT FIGHTS. Anaheim has a plethora, but until Detroit gets at least a few regular mitt droppers it will never happen....not only with Anaheim but with any team.
-
Dont feel bad for saying that, cause its the truth. You can even dip further back in recent history from Anaheim, look at Carolina last year...TB the year before. Both heavily North American led, even the runners up in Calgary and Edmonton were loaded with NA's. Ottawa this year was a little more of a mixture than those teams but still had quite a few. For the Red Wings to just go and add another european forward when they already have so many as it is is a huge mistake.

oh, ok. Thanks for the info Edited Prediction: Niedermayer will stay retired
