Prediction: At some point next season, Niedermayer unretires and rejoins the Ducks.

I guess the possiblity exists that they plan on cutting Lundqvist loose? I could see them dealing his rights to somewhere like Phoenix, or even allowing someone to sign him so they could get all the picks. That is, if they feel theyre ready to give Montoya a shot.

This deal had better be top loaded, more money at the beginning and less at the end of the contract. Or else...this is overpayment no matter how you slice it. A 5 year deal worth 6 mill per for a defenseman who'll be turning 34 when the season begins? Highly questionable move Kenny..

Coming from the Flyers i was expecting over 7 easily, so im kinda surprised. But obviously, the 8 years is what knocked the price tag down a little.

I think its a strong bet that Bobby Ryan will occupy one of those available spots. With their young stars continuing to develop, especially with Ryan added to the mix, i really dont think they need Selanne if he asks for too much.

As it stands right now, the Ducks defense is already set with Niedermayer (IF he doesnt retire, which i think he is now), Pronger, Beauchemin, Schneider, O'donnell, and Huskins. The latter two were re-signed last week. So they arent in need of another defenseman as it stands.

Cant say i support my boy Burke on this one...bad signing. Shouldve just thrown money at Souray, even if it meant a little more cash. On the other hand though, and more importantly, Im very glad to see Schneider gone. It was time to get someone new and younger...bring on Brad Stuart.

Hes not a big guy, but he's without a doubt one of the toughest guys pound for pound around. Wont be fighting the Boogaards or Laraques, but he's capable of venturing up to fight a guy like Cam Janssen or Neil.
