Im geeked! I hope the pens play well, The Preds beat the Sharks, The wild beats anaheim, and I dont care about the dallas/VC series
-
I have to admit that the picture was pretty funny

Don Cherry rocks, and will be nothing but good for the NHL being on NBC. Who in america doesnt want to see suits like this?

Let them talk all that they want. Wont that make it more embarassing if they lose the series? Huselius should accomplish something in his career before he talks smack about a hall of famer. And Kipper is Glacial? If glacial means having no cups, and frenetic means one cup in two finals appearances, then that is correct. The old "Flimsy division" excuse? Det- 2-2 Nsh- 1-3 CBJ- 2-2 Chi- 2-2 Stl- 4-0 11-9...looks like the only team they handled with ease was St.Louis, and that was the "pre-andy murray" Blues. 7-9 without the Blues which apparently easy pickings before the coaching switch. So how did they do in the "flimsy" central? Flimsy. Lame. They should shut their mouths and worry about playing a series.

I understand that tradition in premise, but Ive never understood it completely. Every team has a good amount of canadian players on the roster, yet most canadians only cheer for canadian based teams. Is that national pride? Just as many canadians lose on the other side of that coin, but since they are playing for a team based in dallas its not as important? When I hear canadian fans say something to the effect of " Well, my team is out, all I care about now is that a canadian team wins it all." It just doesnt make sense. I mean, it does in a way, but in the end canadian fans are leaving their fellow country men hang out to dry simply because they arent a flame or an oiler. And CBC...Plain and simple, the NHL isnt a canadian exclusive sport. Maybe CBC should make themselves available in each american hockey market, then this wouldnt be such an issue. Im suprised that I even get CBC living in michigan. I love having it, but nbc can carry an afternoon game into millions more homes, and its better for the league. Even CBC can only seem to cheer on their home based teams. Im sure ill take crap for this post, but this has always bothered me.

Coaching - Detroit>>>>Calgary- Not even close Goaltending - Detroit<Calgary- Close, but Kipper has a slight edge due to youth/health Offense - Detroit=Calgary- I'd say were about even here Defense - Detroit>>Calgary Powerplay - Detroit<Calgary- Calgary is sharp here Penalty Kill - Detroit>Calgary Winning at home - Detroit>Calgary- This could be the Wings biggest advantage as the Flames have a tough time winning on the road Winning on the road - Detroit>>Calgary- Calgary is tough at home though, so its a wash Intangibles- Confidence is a big thing this year, and it looks like guys like calder, Sammy and Holmstrom are full of it right now. I know chicago is a sad team, but the way those guys scored against them the other day, they have to be energized and ready to go. Momentum- Detroit>Calgary- Calgary has been through a lot lately, and that might just give detroit an edge Confidence- Detroit=Calgary- Id say both teams are confident, but I think our kids and 2nd tier players are ready to go Health- Detroit<Calgary- Need I say any more? Determination- Detroit>Calgary- The Wings are out to prove something, and will be on a mission. A lot of my views could be homerism talking, but I think I was being objective. The bottom line is that this series is going to be tough for both teams, and exciting for the fans.

The krogers by me (Harrison twp) is also auctioning off a signed Datsyuk jersey. Before that they did the same with a Chelios Jersey.

Sharp as hell!

Welcome Flames fans... I look forward to the good natured ribbing back and forth, and even some of the heated arguing/discussion. "Wings suck, they are losers." Is what I dont look forward to. I hope we destroy the Flames, but I hope its good hockey either way!
-
Edmonton does suck though, so it's ok Welcome Flames fans...This is going to be a great series!

Someone on the HF boards was laughing at this deal, and the subject of Thornton/Datysuk being compared came up. Here is what I posted on that subject... Fairly comprable up to the same point in their careers, regular season and playoffs. If Pavel keeps playing well, he will be a 100+ point player next year. Thornton is in his 9th season, Pavel is in his 5th. All im saying is that the upside is there, and though the contract is big, we have a player who is better than thornton was at the same point in his career.

The only thing youre gonna get hell for is using my sig! LOL

Agreed You couldnt give pistons tickets away a few years ago, but then they get good all of a sudden, and its a basketball town? Detroit is a Football town. The Lions have ALWAYS sucked, yet fans show up at the games. Detroit is a Baseball town. Baseball is the sport with the oldest history here, and it's part of the culture. Detroit is Hockeytown. The NHL might be a "Niche" sport in the U.S, but not in Detroit. Too much history, too many fans. Detroit is a Sportstown. That's the best way to put it. Fairweathered fans will always be here, cheering in the good times.

Thoughts on Bertuzzi after first game as a Wing?

Gretzky is by far the stats leader, we all know that. Orr though has an impressive resume for a D-man that played only 9 seasons(12 counting the 36 games he played in the last 3 years of his career.) I know they count, but he really did all of his damage 66-75. Orr: Games- 657 G-270 A-645 Pts-915 PIM-953 +597 1 Calder 8 norris 2 Ross 3 Hart 2 Conn smythe 2 Cups 1 Pearson 1 Patrick Only player in NHL history to win 4 major trophies in one season(Cup winning year also) Led league 6 times in +/-, the most in history The would have/could have/what if argument does kinda suck, but gretzky had 22 seasons and Orr had 12. Wayne would still be the great one, but its honestly possible that Orr could have closed the gap considerably. Wayne dominated for 16 seasons of his career. Orr for 10. With 6 more years of dominace, he could have come close to 2000 points, and possibly +1000 for his career. Lemieux played 17 seasons, 2 of which were basically throw aways. With 7 more healthy years to match gretzky's, could he have hit 2500 points? Possibly, and the way he played in his last season, he hadnt lost any skill . His body quit. All speculation of course, but interesting. No matter how ranked, they are all top 3 worthy, and anyone saying gretzky is better, cant be told theyre crazy, though debate is there to some extent.

Agreed. If we can play solid tonight vs. vancouver, thats says a lot. 4-3 Wings in shootout. (I know, crazy!)

How do you know he didnt try, and Moore wanted more? 19 million is more than overpaying some. I mean come on, Moores parents are suing or planning to sue him for 2 million dollars because of stress. Would moore have even made that much for a career? So attonement is measured in dollars? Talk about something being between Moore and god... I will. The guy seems remorseful, and just because he hasnt settled monetarily doesnt mean he isnt.
-
since he is seeking 19.2 million, which looks to be career compensation, part of the settlement/ruling should be that he cannot return to hockey then.
-
Anytime! Even I get my day now and then!

I'll do you one better than a link... Today being the three year anniversary, im wondering if we are going to have a troll influx on the boards? As I posted on the HF boards, where the debate is raging... Bertuzzi is vilified because his poor choice had horrible consequences. The rest of th above mentioned were revered in many cases. Ridiculous.
