    First trip to JLA

I'm making my first trip to JLA tommorow. My friends and I are looking for a sports bar close to JLA to catch some college football and eat before the game. Hopefully something within walking distance (of Doubletree Inn, or JLA), or close to the people mover. Any suggestions?

    First trip to JLA

It was an amazing trip. We arrived in Detroit later than expected. So we decided to hit Cobo Joe's. The food was great, and lightning quick. The atmosphere got us pumped for the game. Seeing the Joe for the first time gave me goose bumps. I might loose my man card for this, but i teared up when i saw the Banners. I hae been to other NHL games, but there is nothing like the Joe. Hearing the "Let's Go Wings" chant, and "Don't stop believing" was AMAZING!! And then i "donated" my winter classic hat to Hank's hat trick. It was a perfect night all the way around. The only downside of the night. We were surprised how dead downtown was after the game. We were looking to party a bit. And everything, except Cobo Joe's was closed or closing. We did catch a quick bite at Cheli's, but they closed at 12. Any ideas on where to hit next time we come?

    Stanley Cup's Resolutions

Unfortunately, i won't be at the game. We'll be at our friends bar watching the game. I'm pretty confident she won't say no. It'll make it a lot easier as long as the Wings win though.

    Crosby Dive

In all honesty, no one can name the best diver. Because if they are the "best" you don't know they are doing it.

    Officiating thread

Gary Bettman will be taking calls at 4pm friday @ 877-645-6696. Just sayin It should be fun listening to him explain the calls (both ways) in this series. Especially the too many men on the ice no call.

    Our Arch Rival(s)

Nice Post! I also read more than i usually post. I disagree with the breakdown of the Columbus "rivalry". As a hockey fan in Ohio, we had three choices to adopt as our team, the Wings, Hawks, or the Pens. I had family living in Detroit, so i chose the Wings. I think it has less to do with the OSU/UM rivalry then you think(except for the frat boys). I see it more of a Bengals/Browns type rivalry. The Browns had the football market cornered in Ohio, untill the Bengals came into the league. Some fans went with their regional team, while others stayed with their old team. This can create a rivalry more in the fans hearts thean with the teams. I would count myself as a "Red Jackets" fan, untill the playoffs. At the point I'm a Red Wings fan. And as far as never meeting someone who gave a f*** about Ohio. Do some research, Ohio has played a large part in your life whether you know it or not. Chances are at least one person you know has ties to Ohio. And you can rarely go anywhere, outside of Ohio, that you won't run into someone from Ohio. I'll get off my soapbox now. Oh yeah, "We don't give a damn bout the whole state of Michigan (except the Wings), we're from Ohio" J/K

    The Winter Classic Jerseys?

I would prefer to see them in the Cougars jersey, without those pants. It just has a more historical feel. Especially when you have two of the Original 6 playing outdoors. As a side note. That is the only jersey i play in on NHL 2K9.

Last team in history to lose 3-2?

Shouldn't it be 33-1 I have thought it all along. The Wings will win it in 6! Go Wings!

    Tomorrow on NBC

No matter what time it is played. I'm screwed. I have to go out of town for a b-day party with the future in-laws at 3. I tried the "I can't go, the cup changes everything". But that didn't fly. So we are leaving extra early so I can catch at least part of the game without interuption at the local BW3's. Let's hope for some better officiating. Go Wings!

    octopi swinging

I listen to XM's show with Bettman every week. Last night a fan called in to question Bettman about the fine. He said, and i'm paraphrasing, that the league was concerned about octipi "goop" being flung onto the ice. And that the octipi goop might cause a player to catch and edge and injure himself. He isn't trying to screw with a tradition. He's just worried about players safety on the ice. I can see his point. But I have yet to see someone injured by an octopi "goop". The co-host called Bettman a softy. And said that he couldn't see how the NHL could support anyone throwing anything on the ice. Which Bettman responded with "its an emotional issue, I agree with what you said. But I didn't want to take that road with this issue" Once again I'm paraphrasing.

    Road game practices

I'm going to my first Wings game in Columbus on Saturday. On the Bluejackets website they show that the Jackets are practicing at 1030 am. My question is. Will the Wings also hold a practice (in Columbus) before the game on saturday? If so, where?

    Verdict on Howard

I think Howard will be fine. He just needs some starts. And with Hasek and Osgood, he hasn't had much of a chance. As a side note. What do you guys think of Berkhoel (Gryphons)? I haven't had a chance to follow how he's been doing since he left Dayton. And the stats only show so much. He was clutch last year for our ECHL team in the playoffs. Just wandering how he has adjusted to the AHL.

Anyone else concerned about the Griffins next year?

You are getting a GREAT net minder in Berkhoel. He just singed with the Red Wings and will play for the Griffins in the up coming year. As a Dayton Bomber's fan, I hate to lose him. But at least he singed with the Wings. He is absolutely amazing. He struggled in the playoffs a bit. But the defense wasn't helping him at all. He was the main reason the Bombers made it to the Kelly Cup finals. I'll officially be a Griffins fan this year. And I look forward to seeing him wear the Winged Wheel! Here's the article from the Dayton Daily News: Bombers' goalie Berkhoel signs with NHL's Red Wings By Debbie Juniewicz Contributing Writer Friday, July 13, 2007 It's been a whirlwind two weeks for Adam Berkhoel. The ECHL Goaltender of the Year signed with the Detroit Red Wings last week, just days after tying the knot. The 26-year-old Minnesota native will trade his Bombers uniform for a Grand Rapids Griffins jersey as he will likely start the season with the Red Wings AHL affiliate. "The last couple of weeks have pretty much been a blur," Berkhoel said. "But I just couldn't ask for anything more." Berkhoel was the Bombers defensive backbone for much of the season as he tallied a .910 save percentage and broke the team shutout record with five. Bombers coach and General Manager Don MacAdam was impressed with his star goaltender's work ethic all season. "Adam Berkhoel shouldn't have been in this league this year, so I definitely didn't expect to see him back," MacAdam said. Berkhoel, however, is quick to credit his Bombers teammates for his success. "I got a lot of individual credit last season but those guys deserved it just as much as I did," he said. This isn't Berkhoel's first NHL stint. He was in the Buffalo Sabres system last season, but played only six games with Rochester, the Sabres AHL affiliate. "When you spend the majority of your time in the ECHL it can sometimes seem like you're going nowhere," Berkhoel said. "But when you pay your dues, it does pay off." When the Sabres decided not to qualify Berkhoel after his contract was up July 1, he became a free agent. The Red Wings quickly contacted his agent. Berkhoel was thrilled. His wife, Leigh, is from the Detroit area, so the Red Wings are a perfect fit for Berkhoel and his bride. "The year I had with the Bombers was just great and, now, to get this honor, well it's just an incredible opportunity," he said. "This is the No. 1 goal for all of us."

how scary would we of been and be right now if ....

I think Holland said that if Vladdy was still playing. He'd be part of the Wings youth movement. Our D would be sick if we had those guys.

    Sharks Radio Annoucers

I think that last night I heard the worst of "homer" annoucers. If i didn't know the score of the game. I would've sworn the Sharks were winning 20-0. They even made a comment that it was a luck that they won on saturday. I realize the Wings haven't played their best. But come on. The Calgary announcers weren't this bad. And beyond that half the time the annoucers couldn't be heard over the crowd. I don't know whether to give the Tank fans the credit. Or if it was just their s***ty radio station. And I'll have to put up with them again wednesday night. I can't wait to get back to detroit announcers!

Non-Michigan fans: How did you become a Wings fan?

How I became a Redwings fan. I was a casual fan untill a fatefull trip to detroit in the spring of 97. Some friends and I drove up to watch the Tigers play seattle. We wanted to check out Tiger stadium and see Griffey Jr. play. The Wings were playing in the finals. During the Tiger's game they had the Wings on the Big Screen. We went to Windsor that night and partied. And I was overtaken by the party atmosphere and the support for the Wings. The fact that Ohio didn't have a team at the time. Made me gravitate towards the Wings. Yes i was a bandwagon fan to start. The Detroit/ Avs series pulled me in deeper. . But I still root for the Wings 10 years later. As a side note. Its weird being a hockey fan in Dayton. I regurally go to Bomber's (ECHL) games. And the Storm is the hated team. So I'm torn between the "Big Brother" that I love(the Wings). And the "little brother" that i disgust(Toledo). Although when the Bomber's play the Storm there are a lot of Wings jersey's which kinda makes me smile. However i've come to a conclusion. The bomber's are a decent finess team. Their major league counterparts (Blowjackets), not soo much. Toledo is a very good ,physical, and goonish team. If both teams would take something from their minor league teams, they might be better off. Although the Wings came out hitting hard the other night. And the addition of Bertuzzi will help out he goon factor. And that is how i became a fan. With some bonus commentary, lol
