It could have also been clear to every GM in the NHL too. Why would you give up a pick to talk to a guy who was going to test the market and you could talk to him for free today?
-
NOOOO KENNY HOLLAND YOU SUCK WHY DIDN'T YOU SIGN A GUY WHO PLAYS LESS THAN 7 MINUTES A GAME?!?!? He's the perfect Brian Burke guy.... a goon.
-
Havlat has had injury issues. I wouldn't risk it.
-
they have the money now but would be in trouble come next year. Keith, Kane and Toews are all RFA's next year and Seabrook is the following year. All of that with the cap probably going down next year? That's gonna be tough.
-
Bingo.
-
plus I said in the other thread they only have like 8 forwards signed for next year. plus they want Khabibulin signed. If he goes that'll suck.
-
how do they pull that off when they want to keep Khabilbulin? they also only have 8 forwards signed and close to 40mil committed.
-
I would be surprised if he stayed. If he goes somewhere I don't see LA. I see the Habs or the Rangers.
-
It doesn't bother me that much either. But like I said before I never expected him to stay because of the cap so maybe that is why I'm not bothered.
-
No not saying that they replace Hossa with them, not at all. I don't think people are saying that either. But I just want more than some fighter. Neil I can see, he plays 3rd line minutes. Orr plays less than that and does less than that. Neil has shown in the past he can be a contributing player other than just fighting. Orr hasn't shown that in the very little bit I've watched him. He's a fighter and that's it. Honestly I don't really remember when Joey signed what I thought. But looking back Joey stepped in and played well and wasn't just some goon. Hell looking at his stats hes score more in the half season he played witht he Wings then Orr did all last year. Give me a guy who can play both ends of the ice and can also drop the gloves. I don't want a guy who plays less than 4 minutes a game come playoff time. I don't see how that is helpful.
-
why are so many people here have such a hardon for a fighter? This team could be losing close to 80 goals and you want a guy who scored 1 last year? here's a question to all of you... how does he make a team that lost in game 7 of the cup finals by one goal better? Does his whole 6 minutes of ice time really give the Wings a cup? He played even less in the playoffs.
-
also about Hossa, it's not a total shocker. I didn't expect him to stay when he signed here a year ago. But I don't want to give up too much to keep him. I can't blame him for turning down 4mil a year, if he actually has since sportsnet is the only place so far, when he knows he can get more than that. I wish him well...in the East please....

Better overall core of defensemen - Flames or Wings?
StevieY9802 replied to BeeRYCE's topic in General
This is how I feel. Flames have some depth and some talent for sure but they haven't really proven anything, especially not as a group. Jaybo hasn't been able to prove himself so we'll see what he can do with some talent around him. I still go the edge to the Wings. -
Everyone assumes Hudler is going to get an offer sheet. If he does get one and its around 2.5mil I think the Wings try to make it work at that, anything over that you start getting into some pretty big compensation coming back the Wings way and I don't see teams giving up that much for Jiri Hudler. If it's 2.6 to 3.9 the Wings get a 1st and a 3rd back. I don't see a team doing that. If they want to go ahead I'll take it.

Holland "Not Optimistic" about re-signing Hossa
StevieY9802 replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
yeah I'm with you. He doesn't owe us or the Wings anything. Let's not be Pens fans here. I'm sure Holland has a backup plan anyways, with it basically being Hudler and/or another FA. He isn't the Bob Gainey and he's not gonna just wait for Hossa until it's too late the way Gainey did with Sundin. Holland will know when to say well if you don't make up your mind we'll move on. And Hossa can take as long as he wants. As long as he doesn't hold the team hostage, which knowing Kenny Holland he won't cause Holland is a mart guy. -
Holland "Not Optimistic" about re-signing Hossa
StevieY9802 replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Based on what EK has said this year, which has been even crazier than years past, then it won't happen tonight. Jaybo signed 2-3 days ago remember? He also said in an earlier post something about Hossa for 5.5mil...yeah right. -
Holland "Not Optimistic" about re-signing Hossa
StevieY9802 replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
The only thing that scares me is who do they give up if Hossa resigns? I worry about them moving Fil or someone like that. I'm not worried about losing Hudler and Sammy if Hossa stays it's losing other guys. Guess we'll find out soon enough. -
First I wouldn't put Hudler off the team yet. Lets wait there. Cause like I said in another thread if its around 2.5m from another team I think Holland tries to get something done to keep him. Anything more than that the Wings get at least a 1st and 3rd round pick. If he walks I'm fine with that. Sammy probably is cause he could probably get a 3-4 year deal at good money, more than here anyways. And why would Hossa have to play in LA? Just cause the Wings trade his rights there? July 1st at noon he could still sign with anyone. Theres no rule that says he has to sign in LA just cause they can talk to him Franzen - Hank - Cleary Fil - Dats - Homer - Helm - - Draper - Maltby Lids - Rafalski Kronner - Stuart Ericsson - Lebda Meech - Lilja That's what they are looking at right now. Not saying those are the lines just making a nice visual. Leino will probably be signed so that leaves 2-3 fowards they need to get on the team, either signing or calling up and probably have to trade a dman. What they will do to get it done? I dunno. and I'm not gonna begin to guess. I have no idea and no one here does. No matter what I'm sure people in here will question Ken Holland like they know better. It's funny too cause the Wings keep winning making the moves he thinks are right.

Jay Bouwmeester's Rights traded to Calgary
StevieY9802 replied to Heroes of Hockeytown's topic in General
EK is the only place I can find it. ESPN, TSN and sportsnet have nothing. -
Hudler is gonna get an offer sheet Holland can't match? How much do you think someone is gonna sign him for? I don't see it being more than 3mil and even that is pushing it because then the team signing him would have to give up a 1st and 3rd rounder. I don't see a team willing to give that up for him. If it was less than 2.6mil thats only a 2nd round pick they give up but at that price I think Holland finds a way to make that work. Now if Hudler comes back the Wings have 11 forwards including Leino and Helm but not including Abby. So 2 roster spots open not including Abdelkader. Make Downey one of them if you can sign him as the 13th forward and see if you can find a cheap UFA to play a 3rd/4th line role. If not you go for some veteran tryouts like you said and see if one them takes the job or maybe Abdelkader is up earlier than they planned. Even without Hudler I think they'll be ok.

Ilitches won’t renew lease with Joe Louis Arena
StevieY9802 replied to viking58's topic in General
They need a new arena badly. There is no shock from me that they opted out. They could still renovate it and stay there but I dunno. That places needs a lot of upgrades to get close to the newer buildings. -
Ottawa Sun: Wings have made lucrative long term offer to Hossa
StevieY9802 replied to 40#1Fan's topic in General
yeah I have a feeling there is an offer on the table. Kenny knows what he can afford no matter what the cap does. Its not like the increase or decrease in the cap is all that big. People say a few hundred grand is huge, not in terms of signing Hossa. It's putting more guys around him. 400k isn't going to make it ok to sign Hossa. I'm getting to the point that I don't mind if he leaves and they keep Hudler and add another role player. But I have faith in Holland in making the right moves. how many bad deals has this guy really made? People point to the Bertuzzi deal as being a bad deal and yet Mathias has played 20 games in 2 years and scored 2 goals. whoa look out for him! -
Ottawa Sun: Wings have made lucrative long term offer to Hossa
StevieY9802 replied to 40#1Fan's topic in General
It doesn't matter signing bonuses or whatever. Its the average of the total amount of the contract, bonuses included. So it doesn't matter how much he's getting per year in the terms of the deal or any signing bonuses. He could make 1mil in the first year and 5mil per year for the next 9 and his cap number would be 4.6mil for all 10 years. -
Ottawa Sun: Wings have made lucrative long term offer to Hossa
StevieY9802 replied to 40#1Fan's topic in General
I said that a year ago. This summer was going to be their toughest in terms of getting guys signed and staying under the cap. Next year with all those contracts expiring and all of them probably taking less or retiring the Wings have a much brighter picture there. It's gonna be interesting to see what happens in the coming weeks. -
Neil turns down 4-year, $6.8M contract from Sens
StevieY9802 replied to jeff48109's topic in General
Thats what I was thinking. He wants out of there and I can't blame him. I could easily see him signing for the same cap number on a team in a better situation.
