It'll be near Fox Town and it needs to happen. Just looking from a business sense. Look at how much more life there is around Comerica/Ford Field before and after a game. There are places in the stadium to eat or across the driveway, it's not even a street. They need more private boxes, more comfortable and spacious seating and as someone mentioned the men's restrooms suck big time. In the winter it really sucks for people coming off the street level and going up thsoe stairs. New stairs inside would be a huge plus, which all newer stadiums have. It needs to be not so massive feeling as the Palace is. If you're at the top you feel a mile away but other arenas don't always feel that way. Plus it's time for Cobo to expand. It's just not up to what most newer convention centers are now.

But Lidstrom could have asked for more money. Rafalski was offered more but took less to come here and Datsyuk would have gotten a lot more on July 1 in 07. Gomez and Drury got 7mil each so Datsyuk would have gotten more than what the Wings signed him for. I see what you mean but all of those guys could have easily gotten a lot more money on the open market, and I think that's what he meant by below market value.

I get what you are saying. The league and the PA probably aren't happy with this. NHL wants parity and the PA wants the players to get the most money they can. I think this is good to see in sports. People wanting to stay somewhere and taking less money to do it. In this age of overpaying for athletes and doing anything for money its nice. I hope they can sign him. I want him more than Franzen now. He's just so good he can create offense out of nothing. He's the player they've needed on their second line for a while.

Actually he got hit in the head and got cut when he was wearing this one. It was a game between the Wings and Canes back in the 97-98 season. I heard his reason for not using one is he had trouble seeing the puck at his feet. I personally like his helmet too. It's "his look."
-
He'll could get that when Staal in Pit got the same. But yeah as a Red Wing he's more like a 3-3.5mil player. I'm starting to lean towards trying to get hossa signed and let Franzen walk to have that cash elsewhere.

GM's want to give 10 minute misconduct penalty for fighting
StevieY9802 replied to Frozen-Man's topic in General
While I'm not really liking the idea. I can see the argument. -
I just don't see the NHL letting the Wings go east. They are a huge draw out west and to lose them would hurt some of those teams. While I would LOVE it for travel and the fact there would be less games to stay up late for, I honestly don't see it happening.

potential solution for franzen hossa problem
StevieY9802 replied to WingMachine91's topic in General
ummmmmm no. Just save the money or put it toward somewhere else. What a bust this guy has been so far. -
You're right here. Quincey is a big part of that LA team right now. Here he would be getting 10-15 minutes a game and wouldn't be playing every game.
-
I would be worried about any team. And it's not how the Wings are playing now, I just think any team can win. Wings might be the most talented but as we know that means little. I'd be most worried about the Jackets. They seem really fired up when they play the Wings plus I can see Mason being a guy who can steal a series. Preds and Oilers I would be equally worried about. There is not one team I woudl WANT to play. Even the teams on the outside looking in right now I wouldn't want. Giggy or Turco in round 1? I know Marty hasn't done good against the Wings but not exactly a guy you want to be facing in round 1.
-
I'm with you about it not being a mistake to send Ericsson down to GR. Meech over Quincey was probably a mistake but hey things happen. Not every decision is going to be the right one. Holland very rarely makes bad choices so... Ericsson wasn't going to be play enough here. I know some people here think Lebda or Lilja or both should have been let go to get him up here but there is nothing wrong with him playing in GR. That's where this team is so good. They are so good and deep they can take their time with the young kids and bring them up when they are ready.

It's been rumored elsewhere for like the last year that ESPN was trying to get back into it so this is very possible. I hope it is. NBC drives me nuts. I can tolerate VS now that Maguire isn't on it and Clement isn't the host of the studio portion. He's a good commentator but not host.

See I'm the other way around. I think the team defense is problem one. If they keep turning the puck over and missing defensive assignments it won't matter who's in net. 6 of the 8 goals the other night were created by dumb plays by the Wings. Osgood's not gonna get it turned around when Brian Rafalski keeps feeding the other team in the slot. As for Babcock, we don't know what goes on behind closed doors. The team knows they played bad and they've said it. Like someone said I don't know if ripping into them would do any good.

Would the Wings be better off had they Pursued Goalie Instead of Hossa
StevieY9802 replied to a topic in General
Me too. I was thinking that last night. I could for sure see the Blue Jackets being one of those teams that can cause trouble. -

Now that is more appropriate question. I don't know though. We know Osgood CAN play well so do they try and get a goalie? The only one I would consider would be Khabibulin but what's he gonna want? If it's an ok price for a guy whos 36 then fine. Other than that Fernandez, Nittymaki or Biron are the next best but are they really better? I agree the goalie needs to step up when the defense breaks down but the defense has played like crap way too often this season. And it's not like it's just a handful of times. How many times were there missed assignments Saturday night alone? The third goal and 5th goals were completely Rafalski’s fault and a shorthanded breakaway to one of the best goal scorers in the league. The stupid mistakes made me want to puke. -

Yeah. Like I said, and others have, it's easy to look back now and say maybe they should have gotten a goalie but lets also be realistic with it. who would they have gotten? Huet? Would he be so much better when the Wings have just stopped playing defense? The other night it was blown coverage after blown coverage. There wasn't much Osgood could have done. -

Yeah cause after Osgood played great and saved this team from first round elimination to win a stanley cup they were gonna go after a goaltender? Maybe if they could have seen into the future maybe they would have. It's easy to question it now but no one in here was wondering on July 3rd or whenever he signed. And as for Osgood, he was playing better until Saturday where his team let up on defense yet again. They need to pull their heads out of their butts sometime soon. Preds and Jackets seem to be two of the toughest teams for the Wings to play which scares me because they could be seeing one of them in the first round. -
Yeah I'm not worried yet. Concussions are tricky. You've got almost 20 games left so there is plenty of time for him to heal. If he doesn't right away they've got Cheli, Meech and Ericsson who can all step in.
-
yeah he was out the entire playoffs before game 1 against Dallas. That was his first game back. Sounded like he was ready late in the Avs series but probably didn't get put back in since the series wasn't in doubt. And I'm not saying Babs should be scared to bench him I just think he will play. Mac got benched for him when they got to the finals and Franzen came back. And I don't really care because I trust Babcock for who he plays. There is a reason he's the coach and has a Cup and not me

Phoenix Coyotes -- Worst organization in sports
StevieY9802 replied to RedLightGoesOn's topic in General
This year maybe but since 02-03 the yotes haven't made the playoffs and finished last in the pacific every year but once and that year they were 4th. Tampa has made the playoffs 3 times in that span and has a Cup. They also spend the money. The Yotes are in serious trouble financially and they might have gotten those guys at the deadline but how many will they be able to keep? -
It would be Helm or Kopecky I think. They seem to really like Maltby for his PK and him and Drapes work well together. Maybe they finally do sit him for Kopecky or Helm but based on what I've watched for years I don't see it happening.
-
Maltby won't get benched. I can promise that. Watched this team for too long to know that.
-
My guess for lines as of right now if everyones healthy? Dats - Hank - Homer (Z's really come on back with Pavel) Franzen - Fil - Hossa Cleary - Drapes - Malts Hudler - Kopecky or Helm - Sammy
-
I like what he brings. Energy and will stick up for the guys but come playoff time that type of player doesn't really serve much of a role anymore, especially not on this team. He can't play PP or PK so that doesn't help him.

2001 he didn't do anything.
