Wings Petitioning to Have Meech's Name on the Cup
StevieY9802 replied to CanadianSwede19's topic in General
He deserves his name on it. He's only 9 games short and he was here the whole season and paid his dues practicing all that time and never playing. He stepped up and in when he needed to. As for the rule I think it used to be 40 games or they've been wrong for 10 years. Harry Neal said it during the finals, you can watch the Wings Championship video from 98 when Vladdie stands up at game 4 against the Caps. I hope Meech gets his name on it. -
Who gets the 12th starting forward spot?
StevieY9802 replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
If they break the twins up then I would expect to see Filppula with Dats and Homer because they have played together before and played well together. And Franzen has played with Hank before too. Can't wait till the season starts. -
He seemed real but you never know. I'm surprised he owned up to it. I thought he would be a jerk and blame the Sens for all of his problems. It could just be the "right thing to say" but we'll see what happens over the next year or so. He's right about how he could get a much lower salary here and try to win a job or go there for more and do the same. Can't blame him there. If he plays well there he can get a job back here next season and made a lot more money.

Who gets the 12th starting forward spot?

I agree with everything right there. I think thats what it will be. I like Quincey more than Meech personally but we'll see. It could be Meech instead of Quincey and Downey instead of Mac but those would the only possible changes from above. I thought he was playing well right before he got hurt. Playing with more confidence and he's just a 4th line center. People say he was unimpressive but he's not supposed to go out and get mad points or anything. Was it a waste of talent when he played on the 4th line for the entire playoffs? Worked out pretty well there. And like what some have said where is there a spot on the top two lines now with Hossa here and the way Franzen ended the season? Since he can't play on the top 2 lines I like him there. He gets a lot of points for a guy who doesn't get the minutes and it gives you a little skill on the 4th line that most teams don't have. Like some have said already and I'm just adding to it, there isn't room. I know some here will say get rid of Sammy or Maltby but they like Sammy and Malts is still a good 4th line center who they JUST resigned so he's not leaving. And they also like Kopecky and they aren't going to have Helm be the 13th guy, or Kopecky for that matter, so you have to send one down to GR and Kopecky would have to clear waivers to get there and Helm doesn't. Thats the reasoning behind it plain and simple. I like the guy and wish there was room but there isn't. -

Gotcha. So do you think Mac or Downey(whoever gets that reserve spot) play over Helm if Kopecky isn't ready? And if so who centers the 4th line in your opinion? I personally think it's Hulder-Helm-Mac/Maltby, if Kopecky isn't ready. Just wondering what you are thinking. Want others opinions. -

I think one of them will be the 13th spot but I don't think #12 Dats-Hank-homer Mule-Val-Hossa Cleary-Drapes-Sammy Hudler-Kopecky-Maltby McCarty or Downey as the reserve forward. Those would be what I think will be your top 13. Now I'm not saying those will be the lines I'm just doing it so you can see my thinking on the matter. I don't think Malts is going anywhere, maybe I'm wrong but watching how this team does things over the last few years I think I'm right. If Kopecky is ready by the start of the year than Helm starts the season on the big team and gets sent down. I personally would love Helm and Kopecky up here but you have roles that need to be filled. And Kop is your 4th line center and Hudler on the Wing. I don't think they'll put Helm on the other wing or Kopecky playing wing either and why have either one being #13 and rarely playing? Thats why I think Helm starts in GR because you can send him down without losing him. -
Yeah I liked the idea of him here too. But now he's hurt yet again and will be out for a long time yet again. It's time to hang em up.

The Isles are run so badly. Hire Nolan and Smith and fire Smith before the season even starts and replace him with a guy who had very little front office experience. Nolan had such a bad team to work with. Snow is why that team stunk. They'll hire one of the veteran castoffs and he won't be able to do anything either. The owner and the GM are the problem.

He had 4 pts in 6 games against the Wings not exactly huge numbers. He had a good year considering he missed what 35 games it said. He might do well there but he's just so small. He did have a monster year the year out of the lock out. Good deal for him, I'll wait and see if it's a good deal for the Thrash.

I think it has to do with the new ownership wanting something that Jay didn't is all. If the new ownership wasn't there I don't see them spending the money as much as they have. New owners want someone who shares their thoughts on the team is what I think has happened.

If thats true the Preds have now fallen out of the playoffs for sure and the Hawks, Coyotes or Oilers will take their place.

I just want to know when the season starts and where and about Chicago. And I hope it either says Chicago, and no stadium yet, or it says Solider Field. Wrigley would be cool cause well it's Wrigley but Solider will hold a lot more people and will give much better viewing. But I might just be dreaming there. But last year tickets were hard to come by at a place that holds like 70k. Wrigley will be gone quick.

Wow Ericsson probalby starting in GR. Now will all the people who were calling me dumb and I didn't know anything finally admit that it makes more sense to have Ericsson in the minors to play a full season with big minutes and not losing both Meech and Quincey, which would happen if they kept Ericsson on the big team, and have Ericsson be the #7 guy up here. I would love to see Howard but for some reason they just aren't ready for him.

If there is more to it then just the games I'll consider it but I can download the games from itunes if I really want them and they'll be less than that boxset I would think. Very true didn't think about that. -

I bet I'll get it cheaper at Target and have it by tomorrow night. I'm guessing you won't unless they already shipped it. I heard 2 hours of footage. But thats an hour for the "movie" plus an hour of bonus materials. That seems plausable. Didn't the 02 DVD have something about Scotty and other stuff? -
Two of those three will be probably. But why would you want Hudler gone after the playoffs he had? Not like he would be getting a huge raise. And Kopecky would be getting around 1mil at most I would think so I don't see the benefit of getting rid of a guy who is a 3rd or 4th liner who I thought had a good year until he got hurt. I agree. I wouldn't like that either. I still think it's a very long shot to resign him and the others but ya never know.

Yeah I'm with you. I'm buying it because I'm a Wings fan. The Pistons 89 VHS is like that. It's basically a season recap and then it got more into the detail for the Pistons in round 3, barely, and then was the finals coverage but it took away a lot of the Pistons journey and thats what I want to relive. -
Hossa's agent is floored by his client's behaviour
StevieY9802 replied to crotty99's topic in General
Yeah no one here expects him to stay past this year, we just hope he will. If somehow they can make it happen great but I'm not expecting him here in 09-10 unless like Lidstrom retires. I mean him and Z would both need to take a lot less than what they could get on the open market to stay and Z shouldn't get anything less than what Pavel is getting imo. People keep saying that about Winter because Winter is probably worried his client gets hurt or something, or has an awful year than the pay day next year is less than what it would be this summer. -

Anyone have prices at local stores? I will probably get it at Target cause it was cheaper there back in 02. But just wondering if anyone knows. -
But none of the players actually live in the city and none are expected. Any of the Kings live in LA? Hell no they live in Beverly Hill or Bel Air or somewhere. I don't think he meant anything by it but lets not get into another Jimmy Kimmel thing again. As for the challenge part I think he meant that they have it easier being so good, that people basically just come to them, at least thats my guess.

You don't like Hudler? Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Holmstrom Franzen, Filppula, Hossa Cleary, Draper, Samuelsson Hudler, Kopckey/Helm, Maltby Thats what I'm thinking and thats why I have Draper in the top 9.
-
They were one of the smallest markets and being in Canada it was hard for those teams back then. And with salaries getting higher it was tough. I'm pretty sure they had great attendance.
-
Panthers, Coyotes, Thrashers, Predators and maybe the Canes. Move them to? I dunno Winnipeg, Hamilton and other than that I dunno.
-
Nah Kopecky or Helm will center the 4th line probably just like this year.
