Wings out of picture for Sundin, Hossa, Rolston

Out of the guys I mentioned who are they gonna let walk? If not Hank then who? Flip, Franzen or Hudler. And Hudler wouldn't relieve that much cap pressure imo.

Wings out of picture for Sundin, Hossa, Rolston

I count the wings out. They have 38mil committed to 09-10 already. Thats before Zetterberg, Franzen, Flip and Hudler are signed. I just don't see how it works.

    Satan

    Yes he is.

    Chicago signs Brian Campbell

Lidstrom now only makes 350k more than Campbell. how many Norris' does Campbell have? oh yeah none.

Wings out of picture for Sundin, Hossa, Rolston

Bertuzzi or Naslund seem to be possible now. Satan is out there too isn't he? Sundin might still happen but I doubt it. eh what ya gonna do? I would rather be good for years and maybe have money down the line rather than have no room to add guys later, Im looking at you NYR.

    Chicago signs Brian Campbell

8 years at 7.1 per? What the hell? These GM's and owners are stupid. Sucks he's coming to the central but whatever. Huet at 5.6. Maguire on TSN today made a good point. Marty Broduer makes less than that. The Vezina Trophy winner. Gimme a break.

Jeff Finger to Leafs for $3.5-million a season

Wow. Thats a lot of money. And why did the Leafs do this? You are supposed to help fix the cap problems they had.

    Wings sign Conklin: 1-year, $750K

Exactly. Dont just hand the job to Howard by default. So signing a veteran for this doesn't surprise me but Conklin signing here does. I would have thought he would have a better shot to be the for sure #2 somewhere else. He knows coming here that he's going up against Howard and might get sent down. Anyone know if this is a two-way deal? If it's not and Howard gets the job he has to be waived first before going down to GR.

    Stuart Re-Signs: 4-years @ $3.75m per

And you forget there is a roster limit of 23. If you carry 9 defensemen then you can't carry any reserve forwards that way. So either Downey or Mac, or both, would be gone, and thats if they don't sign any more forwards. And why would you carry 3 extra defensemen? So guys can sit even more? I know what he said about Chelios that he would play about 41 games as the 8th defenseman. If you have 9 you have to make guys play even less. Let Ericsson play in the minors and get good ice time. Dats - Zetterberg - Homer Franzen - Flip - Sammy Cleary - Drapes - Malts Hudler - Kopecky Lidstrom - Rafalski Kronner - Stuart Lebda - Lilja Meech - Ericsson Chelios Ozzie Howard Thats the roster right now as YOU say they will do it with 9 D so only have 1 free roster spot. And the pairings are just there to show names now in any order outside of the top 4. Totally worth having Ericsson on the roster.

Some good news for Red Wings

She never mentions the 10mil and she even says he could easily go out of the price range for the Wings.

St. James: Sundin, Bertuzzi on radar, Rolston not

Yeah I'm not totally against it. He can still be a 20 goal scorer, he's in shape unlike when we got him coming off the injury. And if he signs cheap that leaves room for moves later on. And I'm glad the toughness and fighting argument has come back. It's been a while.

St. James: Sundin, Bertuzzi on radar, Rolston not

The Canucks offering 2 years 20mil? wtf is wrong with them?

St. James: Sundin, Bertuzzi on radar, Rolston not

Was Fedorov mentioned in that article? No. So they are talking about Bertuzzi. I menioned him the other day and thought he would be a plan B if they couldn't get Sundin or Rolston.

Some good news for Red Wings

according to Helene St. James, Rolston is too expensive for the Wings. He's getting offers of $4mil + now. Have called Sundin and, like I had mentioned the other day which I thought would be a Plan B for the Wings, has contacted Bertuzzi. I think Naslund is probably on the radar as well.

    Stuart Re-Signs: 4-years @ $3.75m per

Ericsson will not be on the Wings roster next year. Why do people not grasp that? If they keep him on the roster they would lose probably Meech AND Quincey. Holland said they would carry 8 D at the start of the season so... Lidstrom - Rafalski Kronner - Stuart Lebda - Lilja Chelios There is your top 7 so you would have to chose between Meech, Quincey or Ericsson for the 8th and final spot. If you chose Ericsson you lose the other two because you can't send them to GR. If you chose Meech or Quincey you lose just one of them and then Ericsson goes down to gR because they can still send him there.

    Ridiculous Contracts

It's a little bit of all of that. As for the players being greedy, the GM's are offering it to them. If all of the GM's aid I won't pay this price then it wouldn't be a problem. But guys salaries are going up cause the cap is going up. And now with the cap it seems that teams are trying to make long term deals and to do so you have to over pay right now anyways. Green will be worth that in a couple years. And why does everyone think Rolston and Sundin are out because they paid Stewie a whoel 750k more than what they wanted to. They were planning on signing him, or wanted to, anyways and still go after a top 6 forward. The Wings have the money, this year anways, to sign either one. Sundin makes more sense since it would be more likely a one year deal.

    Ridiculous Contracts

The Kronwall one did make me wonder back then. He wasn't able to stay healthy a lot of times so I thought 3mil was high. As for Burke being the best gm? Yeah that signing of Bert for 8mil over 2 years was a great signing.

    Stuart Re-Signs: 4-years @ $3.75m per

Bingo. The Lebda idea being thrown around is possible but he's proven he can play at #5 and is cheap. We'll see. Probably won't know until training camp though like some have said. Let them all play and earn a spot.

    Stuart Re-Signs: 4-years @ $3.75m per

Meech or Quincey will. Ericsson will be in GR. My guess the more likely tradable one is Quincey but we'll see.

Guess the Montreal radio was wrong I'm glad he's staying. Best D in the league belongs to the Wings for sure. Welcome to a more permanent home Stewie. Next to up a top 6 forward and a checking forward and Wings will be primed for a good run next season.

Who were on the ice for the last second?

It was Lidstrom, I just watched the thing. Slegr was out there for Shanny's empty net goal but not for the last second. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yhCOqsqG3fs at the 2:59 mark of the video look who's right there with his number facing the camera, the now captain of the Red Wings.
  22. StevieY9802

Who were on the ice for the last second?

Lidstrom - Chelios for sure in 02. Just watched it on youtube and it was Fedorov, Stevie and Shanny. 98 Shanny and Larionov were the other two with Lapointe

    Ducks

Yeah this is pretty much would I was gonna say. Even though Selanne really didn't matter with McDonald. It was Neidermeyer because he was signed past this season. I'm not totally sure how that works but they had to get someon off the books past the current season. I don't blame Burke for that, that was Neidermeyer's fault. Signing Schneider wasn't a bad signing, even though it was a little too high for a 38 year old. He was replacing the guy he thought was retiring. But the signing of Bert to 8mil for 2 years because he was your boy was stupid and the Brzygalov thing too. He used to be a no nonsense kinda guy and would have told Neidermeyer to make up your mind and would have done what was best for the team. Then he cried when Penner was signed away. While I agree Lowe paid way too much, he did it with in the rules. Maybe if you don't sign the guy coming off a seasonw here he missed 66 games you could have kept him. Now they have Getlaf and Perry who are gonna want bigger money. Holland has played this great since the lockout. People here ***** when he doesn't get Hossa or someone but he's looking to the future too unlike teams like the New York Rangers spending to the cap to finish one whole seed higher than 06-07. If Sundin or Rolston's price is too high he won't sign them. People here will ***** that he didn't do something or if he gets a second tier guy and call for his head and the Wings will still be at the top of the west at the end of the regular season. I honestly could see Bertuzzi coming back here, as long as it's cheap, if Sundin or Rolston don't work out.
  24. StevieY9802

    Bertuzzi placed on waivers.

I said a year ago Burke was stupid to pay him 8mil for two years. It's amazing how Burke seemed to get caught up in that now I've won I will defend it with as many guys as I can get it and not think past next year. Bert is why they lost Penner.

08-09 Salary Cap Upper Limit: $56.7M

This isn't good for the bottom teams. I also want to know how much of this is ticket prices. Last year, 06-07, accordin to this article http://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/article/55148 ticket prices went up 5.7% league wide while paid attendance only went 0.2%. A certain someone in here will try to throw stats at you and say the league isn't sturggling and the league needs to expand but if this is just because ticket prices went up again and attendance barely did that's not really good news. LA was running in the red last year I heard whats gonna happen now?
