This is a good deal for both sides. Tampa needed him to stay there. Some people were saying oh it's too long of a deal, thats what you have to do these days. The players seem to want good money and security rather than huge money and short term and the teams want these guys long term because what if he signs a 2 year deal for 8.5 and then his type of players start getting even bigger money when his contract is up? And someone said they have no D well they do have Boyle and wouldn't have him if they would have kept Richards. They do need someone on that second pairing though. And they need to hope Smith works out, he should be an upgrade over what they had though.

The rumors had the offer at 7mil per and he didn't take it? He could have been on a good team and playing on the wing of one of the better players in the league. All the Pens fans out there thought he loved it so much there and would take less so he could win. Most contenders out there can't pay more than 8mil probably so is he looking for the max deal of what would be roughly 11mil? He's gone. Pens gave up 3 younger players and a #1 pick for.... well nothing now.

This is a good hire, if it's true which I'm guessing it is. This guy needed a chance. He's been a good coach in the minors for years. There will be a lot of "big name" coaches that won't be getting head coaching jobs this year with all the young guys who are getting chances.

While I agree that he could get more on the open market it could handcuff this team. Malkin resigns for around 9mil is the rumor out there, granted that doesn't take effect until next year, Fleury will get a big raise and then they are looking at around 30mil tied up in 4 players and none of them being defensemen. There is not one guy on their defense that stands out right now. Yes they might be better down the road, the younger guys that is, but right now they aren't there yet.

Votes 97 but 08 is up there because how out of the lockout no one had the Wings being any good in either of the first two years and all they did was a presidents trophy and a #1 seed in the west along with a trip to the WCF and then this year winning it all. Holland has done a great job. so many people thought, a lot of people in here, he couldn't do it post-lockout. What a great moment last night was.

yeah I don't think any of those guys mentioned will be on there. Hartigan should be on for reasons mentioned and they can petition like someone said to get a name or names but on like Vladdy in 98 among others. Meech should be put on so I hope he gets it on. He missed it by a whole 8 games and was here all year.

It'll be on every station here in Detroit. 2, 4, 7 and FSN. I would also assume that many of those stations will have it being streamed from their websites.

But thats exactly why I thought it was tough. They were 2-2 over the last 4 games where they could have easily lost both of their wins. That means it's tough. Not tough is pretty much the last 3 games against the Avs. The better team doesn't always win. Get a hot goalie and you never know.

I remember that too. He was awful in that series. I was very happy when he left. He just didn't fit into what they were trying to do here anymore. And with a cap he wasn't worth $4mil they could spend elsewhere.

Yeah sucks to be them but not to be us and the Wings. If both of them stayed we don't get Rafalski and maybe Franzen doesn't do what he did late in the year. I like Rafalski better than Schneider.

Nashville was tough but I think Pitt was just as tough over the last 4 games. I am very happy the Wings didn't have to go through SJ or the Ducks. But to anyone who said the Wings had an easier road there, you take what you get. I'm sure the Ducks weren't complaining when they got it easy through the Wild and Canucks last year quickly and could rest and didn't have nearly the travel the Wings did.

I've heard that somewhere as well. Don't know how true it is. As for his speech's. I thought his one in 97 was actually pretty good. Since then.... not so much. Like in 02 he was pushing the fact that the Canes were there and it was great for hockey in the Carolina's. If the series would have been won in NC then ok but when it's won in Detroit, no one cares.

For everyone saying it should be on the weekend, more people would come, I think that's why they are doing it on a weekday so it's not totally crazy. They pulled in a million + I think all 3 times, first two for sure, imagine if those were on a saturday. And that first one was crazy when everyone went into the streets when Stevie went by. I know I went out there and I was only 14 at the time. Surprised I didn't get trampeled. Did shake Mr. I's hand though.

I'm surprised they have a release date set already. I won't be preordering it. I'll just run to Target after work on the 8th. Can't wait for this. I need to get that boxset DVD. I only have the 97 and 98 videos on video not dvd. I taped the game last night, the cbc broadcast and when game 6 gets put up on itunes I'm gonna download it and probably the whole finals.

I agree. His $4mil they would have paid him last year and probably this year would have held them back from moving forward with new guys or getting the guys they needed. I loved the guy and thank him for everything but I don't know if they would here with him. While I am sure he wishes he would be out there with the Cup he probably isn't kicking himself. He knew it was time to move on.

I am very happy he got the call right. The great thing about two refs was that he was able to be behind the goal and see it loose. With one ref he might not have seen it and blown it down. now who was the dumb SOB who called Huds for that cheap call with under 2:00 to go? You call that weak crap with the Cup on the line?!? And then Pavel gets tripped up clearyly int he last 20 seconds or so and no call at center ice?!? Ozzie, while drunk mind you but still, said he thought the refs were trying to get it to game 7 and "the guys in NY probably aren't very happy about this ending." He said that on channel 4 late last night. I hope they weren't trying to give it to them but my conspiracy theorist hat was on there for sure.

you basically just took the thoughts from my head. Thats probably my order, maybe 02 & 98 being tied. But I agree 98 I knew they were going to win, and outside of the first round really the Wings didn't have many scares. I was so cocky I have every win on video from 98. But winning that one for Vladdy was amazing. 2002 was fun because we hadn't won it in a few years and all of those HOF's were fun to watch. This year I didn't always know if they were gonna win. They really had to fight for it in the last two rounds, this one for sure, so that made it so much more sweet in the end. And to have Ozzie win it and Dally and Lidstrom as captain was great. But nothing will beat 97. It almost took me a month or so to have it really sink in that they won it. Too bad it was spoiled so soon after with the accident. Looking forward to a great summer. GO WINGS!!!!

Like I said are the Wings here if Hasek stayed in net? I personally don't think so. I look how well they've played with Ozzie in there and how steady he's been. I look at those little things. But without Yzerman playing awesome in round 1 against the Canucks the Wings don't get out of round 1 in 02 and he played well, even though his point production went down, as the playoffs went on. But Lidstrom ended up with the MVP.

Yeah that's how I feel. I don't remember ever being this nervous in 97, 98 or 02. I blame the losing early from 03-06. I'm not nearly as confident as I used to be. I keep telling myself to just deal with it.

Very true but if Osgood doens't make those big saves in the 2nd it could have been 3-1 Pens going into the 3rd which would make the Zetterberg stop meaningless. We could go back and forth all day on this one for sure. I think we all can say that it will, or should, be one of these two guys.
