    Forsberg out of game 4

Exactly. I mean just put Schneider back in the lineup and I honestly think the Wings win that series last year. Or how about 2001? Wings were minus 2 of their top 3 players against the Kings. No Yzerman or Shanny and I think I remember McCarty and Chelios both playing pretty banged up.

    Forsberg out of game 4

They starting making dumb moves, I thought, way back when they kept trading away so many guys for Bourque and Blake and Kasperitis. Trading Drury for Derek Morris? I know Drury might not be there now but that was a dumb move. And I love how so many people kept saying the Wings were old and everything and wouldn't make it post lockout and they have made a nice transition to a little younger of a team and a team well under the cap. Unlike the Rangers who were at the cap and will probably be swept tonight. Now I hope they can get out of the WCF's this year.

    Forsberg out of game 4

Forsberg had much more success imo. But recently he's had major issues. I'm glad the Wings didn't land him. The Wings better take care of things tonight when they are down 3 big name players like that.

    Detroit could be screwed

I'll admit I'm worried because of all the injuries and some of these guys not being on top of their games when they come back. Nothing you can do about injuries though. We'll know in a week though won't we?

    the 'old' argument..

People just want something to pick on about the Wings. They've been saying their old for years now. Yes they are older, I think they are still the oldest team in the league, but like you said you take off Dom and Cheli and their average age drops. Do I think it hurts them over a long season? Not really because Chelios is in better shape then some of the young guys and thanks to a great year by Ozzie, Dom, if he can stay healthy, should be fine. What I find funny is that in 98 this team wasn't old but in 99 when they lost before the WCF for the first time since 94 all of a sudden they were old. Because the difference between lets say age 34 and 35 makes a difference. Like everyones said when you win you're experienced and when you lose you're old. And that will happen again this year.

    Is Stuart in Detroit Yet?

Figured. It's gonna be weird seeing someone other than Schneider in that sweater.

    Is Stuart in Detroit Yet?

Is he really wearing 23 or did you just want to type twentyfree?

    Another early exit is near

Because people want something to complain about. And people think because San Jose and Dallas got better on paper they will be better on the ice. They also tend to think that the Ducks won that series last year because they were bigger and tougher, even though the wings were 45 seconds away from being up 3-2. But that shot that went off of Lidstroms stick past Hasek was a result of them being bigger. They want Holland to make a move at the deadline for any forward no matter what the price is because right now they "know" it will work but if it doesn't then they will complain about him come June. And people also forget that the 1 team out of 30 wins the cup and that if it's not the Wings that getting Marian Hossa and spending to the cap will change that. I used to be pissed when the Wings didn't win every year pre-cap but now the way Holland has managed the cap so well and they are slowly adding young players to the system I would rather see this team stay competitive for a long time and not bet the farm like the Pens did for one run at the cup. You just said how I feel. People have this idea that because one player went somewhere for one price, ie Fedorov, means that CBJ would have taken the same from the Wings or that the Wings would have given that up. Like I said I want to see the Wings stay good for a while. From what people are saying to get a guy like Hossa they would have had to give up Brandon Smith, Filppula, maybe Franzen and a pick. For one run at the cup? No thanks. And no one knows what Satan or Fedetenko were going to cost so to pretend that you do is dumb. I say go with what you've got and this summer you can get one of those guys in free agency maybe or maybe even someone who fits better and not give up a pick, prospect or roster player. Holland has his eyes not just on this year but next year and beyond too. There's an idea huh?

    The new roster

    ^ what they said.

Red Wings acquire D Brad Stuart

I like this deal it gives Babcock some choices to make on D when everyone is healthy. Adds another pointman on the PP. Again wish they could have gotten a forward but Holland said they weren't willing to pay the price people were asking for the guys they were interesed in. You don't just get whoever because you need a forward and you don't over spend. People complain but in this salary cap era I have come except you can't win it every year because it's a level playing field. I would rather see them make this team good for years and years then give a lot of stuff away for one run at it this year, ie the Pens.

And they are saying how bad they've been in the last how many ever games. yeah how come they keep losing with 4 of their top 6 dmen out? What the hell is wrong with this team? Time to blow them up! holland didn't get a forward boo hoo. he didn't see anything he liked for the price so he didn't do it. A lot of people here would have given up whatever. Thats why fans don't run the team. I have faith in a guy who has kept this team at the top of the league when all of a sudden he couldn't just spend to fix things anymore.

I also want to add that I think the yotes have some nice young goaltending now.
  13. StevieY9802

What happened, Holland? Cap space for what?

Yeah the Pens gave up only 3 players and a first round pick for hossa. And the Stars gave up 3 good players for Richards and the Sharks gave up a good player and a 1st rounder for a guy that the Wings didn't need and wouldn't have resigned. And everyone else that moved, other than maybe Prospal, wasn't going to make or break the Wings. Sorry Fedorov wasn't going to put this team over the top. Would he have helped maybe maybe not. The last time he played in the playoffs for the Wings he had a total of one goal in that sweep against the Ducks. And that was 5 years ago. Exactly. They pulled a NYI. Gave up a crap load for a guy just for a few months. Hossa will not be a Pen next year. If he is Pitt. will be the next version of where TB is now.

    The 2008 Trade Deadline Thread

I love how people think because he didn't add a foward that Holland didn't know that they were stuggling with the offense. Yes because you know more than the GM of the Detroit Red Wings. Again this is not xbox or ps2/3 where you pick up who you want. I'm glad he didn't bet the farm on a rental. And just because Meech and Ericsson have played pretty good doesn't mean the Wings were ready fort hem to step in during the playoffs. Just wait till the playoffs people. Feb 26th is not the day the Cup is awarded. If the Wings don't win the cup they still have a good team that they can add to with the money they have for next year. I would rather see this team good for a long time then give up a lot for a "big run" now.
  15. StevieY9802

Red Wings acquire D Brad Stuart

you mean by saying "hey I did exactly what I said I was going to do." Was only going to make a move that made sense and wouldn't throw everything away for a rental player. Lots of spinning there. And all the upset people and say Holland sucks. go be a fan of someone else like the Habs. You would be putting a gun in your mouth if you were a fan of them if you think Holland sucks.
  16. StevieY9802

Red Wings acquire D Brad Stuart

But it just isn't that easy. I'm sure he tried and just what people wanted for whatever the Wings wanted, just wasn't worth it to them. I would have liked some help but it didn't happen. If this team can get healthy they can compete with anybody. All these trades don't mean anything unless you produce.

Red Wings acquire D Brad Stuart

I love how people are giving the couple of teams that made big moves a ticket to the finals already just because of what they did on paper. Wait till the playoffs and then see what happens. The Avs need to make the playoffs first. What if Richards doesn't score in the playoffs or Turco struggles? The only team that has proven anything out of the teams that "upgraded" is the Ducks.

And Fletcher couldn't do anything. The Leafs will continue struggle if they can't change up that team. And I'm happy with depth on D now, when healthy. Lidstrom-Rafalski Kronwall-Stuart (maybe that pairing?) Lebda-Cheli Lilja Meech Quincey

    The 2008 Trade Deadline Thread

I agree but disagree too. I would have liked some scoring help but depth on D after what has happened recently and last playoffs is still good. And hes a tough guy. Splitting up the euro-twins might help enough.

Stuart is a wing for everybody. Nice depth move. I'm ok with that. I just wanted to say that with Filp with Dats and Homer and Hank with Sammy and Mule I like those two lines.

Lidstrom, Rafalski, Kronwall, Chelios, Cleary and Draper out. Yeah I'm sure it will be a big one. TSN is making another good point about Gretz back in 96. Everyone thought that was gonna be huge playing with Hull.

Sorry I couldn't tell from that. Most people thought SJ was the team to beat last year. So many people forget paper talent is different than what you do. And it's funny tsn is talking about Guerin right now.
