I wouldn't mind this guy. The big names are going to cost too much for sure, looking at the Richards and Hossa rumors, so a second tier guy is where they will have to go. Still hoping for a dman too.
-
I would not trade Quincey unless he's part of a blockbuster. Trading him for a 34 year old when hes just 22 and has a lot of upside I don't think it's worth it.
-
When you see what the Habs are reportedly giving up yeah the Wings were out of it a while ago.
-
So if tries to get one but no one wants anything that the wings have or they want more than what Holland is willing to give up, it's his fault? Well they are the favorite.
-
Exactly. The Wings don't have that much to give up. Or you can say they do but they won't give up that much because they won't have anything left.

or just go to nhl.com in 32 minutes. video

Alright people you need to remember a few things. First, sorry you don't know more than Ken Holland. He knows how good Hossa is and I'm sure he would love to have him, but no one here knows what exactly the asking price is. If Keith Tkachuk is worth Glen Metropolit, a first and third-round draft pick in 2007 and a second-round draft pick in 2008, what is Hossa worth? So maybe, god forbid, Ken Holland doesn't want to give up 3 picks and a player for this guy. Maybe he would rather get some cheaper pieces a try and then if that doesn't work try things out this offseason. And just because you might send Filppula and who or whatever to Atl doesn't mean the Wings organization is prepared to do that. Maybe they see Filppula as a good young player and would like to see how he developes, and would rather have him down the road and find a guy later on inf needed. And maybe Don Waddell wants Jonathan Ericsson as part of the deal. Sorry the Wings won't be doing that and you don't need to be an insider to know that. I would think Ken Holland would rather pay a small price and give Fedorov or someone like him a shot rather than give up a lot to get Hossa. I trust Ken Holland more than my want for a guy like Hossa.

I work at a universisty and it's spring break here, as it was for last years trade deadline, so NO ONE is around so I will have as many trade deadline pages open tomorrow. Hope my boss doesn't need me to do anything tomorrow.
-
So people know, last year nhl.com had the tsn video feed from their website and tsn.ca had the audio of it running for non-candadian people viewing their site. Plus tsn.ca always has a trade ticker as well.
-
Yeah I'll admit I visit the site just for entertainment. It's nice to imagine what could be.
-
Take what you get off that site with a grain of salt. He reports anything he hears. So if he heard Holland called a couple times to inquire about Hossa that might mean the Wings are close to getting him, in Ek's mind. He says the Sens are still very much interested in getting Khabibulin when tsn says this: "Nikolai Khabibulin will have an MRI on his ailing back on Monday. "He's not doing better," coach Denis Savard said. "There may be something going on in there. Hopefully not, but we'll get an MRI to see."
-
Hell no. Filppula is one thing. Ericsson is not going anywhere. That would be stupid.
-
Yeah they need help on that second line, again. I like the idea of Hossa, if they could sign him and still be able to put a good team around him, Dats and Zetterberg. Wouldn't have to worry about the second line for a few years.

Here's a rumor that is out there right now. "Another source passed along word that the Detroit Red Wings offered Sundin a two-year contract extension if he would waive his no-trade agreement with the Maple Leafs. However, he refused to OK the deal." http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/hockey/...bru#articleFull
-
I would love to get the guy, as long as Filppula is not part of that deal, he's going to be too good. I would do it if they could sign him, but that will be really hard with Zetterberg up for a new contract. They could have 34mil between Dats, Zetts, Hossa, Lidstrom and Rafalski. Thats a lot.
-
Yeah exactly. I remember on July 1st 2001 reading in the paper that Sunday morning a quote from Holland "We are very happy with our goaltending situation." That was from an interview they had with him just a few days earlier, and I can promise you that he was already talking to Darcy about Dom by that time.
-
yeah that's not all that bad. And everyone is on this guy but to say, if he did come here, that you know how he will work out is just dumb. This is the same place that was yelling at holland about a year ago for letting Guerin go to the Sharks. I know Bert didn't dominate but with his bad back he had a better playoff than Guerin. And like I said Larry Murphy and Jamie Macoun left Toronto as goats and came here and helped win a cup(s).
-
I just read this. Don't want to lose Hudler but out of those two I could deal with him the most. I do NOT want them to deal Filppula. He is going to be way too good, and like others have said, for a rental? As for Gill he's a big body and he would be for depth. What's so wrong with him? He's on a bad team. Jamie Macoun didn't look like the greatest pick up in 98 but he did pretty well. You never know how guys will work out. I don't see Sundin resigning here but you never know I guess.
-
They are the favorites because they are. When they got Neids back that put them back up top. They will the be the favorite until they lose. Selanne doesn't make or break it in my mind. Will he help? yes. Could they have won it with him or without him? yes. But on paper doesn't mean anything. Ask the Wings in 03 and 04. Not too many teams on paper could touch them. As for the Wings not being mentally tough enough to handle them, I think mentally they can take it. They were just as tough last year. They didn't back down from them and if anyone thinks that you didn't watch that series. If that puck doesn't hit Lidstrom's stick the series was 3-2 the other way going into game 6. It had nothing to do with not being mentally tough. Things will be settled on the ice. I am hoping for a rematch in the WCF. It was a very good series last year.
-
You just gave yourself my argument. One article I read broke it down with estimated salary increases and with signing both Z and with a cap increase they would have 55mil tied up in 18 players. So if the estimated cap was 56mil in a couple years that would be 1mil for 5 players and any possible injuries.
-
You are both correct. I like the threads about this guy. We gave him up for a guy who was still not 100% blah blah. Yeah they could have not made the deal and then people would be crying that Holland didn't do anything at the deadline and where would Matthias be right now? Not on the Wings roster and probably wouldn't be next year either. You have to take chances sometimes.
-
Exactly and like people have said it will cost a lot more to get Hossa than Blake. Hossa is much younger and the fact that Atl is still in the playoff hunt so it would take a lot to get him away. But after last year you get Blake. Lidstrom - Rafalski Kronwall - Blake Lebda - Chelios Lilja Meech Quincey After the injuries last year you want to add some depth there. I would love to see him and maybe see if you can add any depth up front.

I think Barry's is worse. It's not the early 90's anymore. You're getting older Barry you just have to accept that.
-
I have my settings at 1024x768 and I set that one as my background but the time of the st. louis game on NYE gets cut off. Any ideas as to why?
-
All it is is the old schedule. But it will be nice. And yeah the central is finally get stronger but it's getting boring when you see the same teams. What was it 9 straight against central teams and they played the Blue Jackets twice in 6 days? I don't remember it being that bad last year. Anyways its 2004 again. And it also sounds like the cap might go up again. Thats gonna hurt the small market teams and could cause trouble down the line.
