They'll have to give up a lot to do it. If I'm them you try to get him to a contract first, if that's even possible. You trade away young talent and then lose him in the summer your big steps forward end up being a huge step backwards.

Right on. Leino might end up being a player but you need to make choices and Miller has more than earned his right to stay. you gotta cut payroll and Leino will be one that is gone.

Jason Williams has the 2nd highest career shootout % on the Red Wings, almost 40%. Only Datsyuk is better.

I have no problem with the point for OT but the shootout I'm done with. It's fun to watch no doubt, I think even the most traditional fan agrees with that, whether they will admit it is another thing. Jimmy didn't deserve the "loss" yesterday at all. I always thought just 10 minutes of 4 on 4 would have been ok and that would be it. I always thought 5 minutes was too short but that they shouldn't go for 20. Saying it's boring or whatever to fans... but the NFL teams playing for a field goal is exciting? Yesterday's game doesn't bother me because it didn't hurt the Wings in the standings to not get the extra point but when you start doing that against teams in the West it sure does. It'll determine playoffs or no playoffs. As far as sportscenter highlights? who cares? We, the NHL, get dumped into the end of that show anyways. They'll put hightlights of the Nets and Pistons or some guy running the 40 at the combine, on before any NHL highlights. And as far as networks not wanting games to go on forever, I've seen baseball games go on for 4-5 hours so local networks would deal with it. Would NBC? No but they also turn off game 5 of the ECF's so they obviously don't care about any of it.

Drew Miller has earned his spot. If they were both playing at the same level I would say Leino for his offensive upside but it's not close. Miller deserves to be in the lineup and right now Leino doesn't. Even though I think he's looked a little better the last few games but still not where he should be to knock Miller out.

I don't see it happening but would do it if the price is right obviously. I don't trade Stuart, one doesn't he have a NTC, and he's been our best D-man for most of the year. it would take roster player(s) to get him probably and thinking ahead to next year, I wouldn't want to.

I find it entraining but i still want him gone. Yes the league is doing well money-wise but how much of it is the top teams holding up the bottom ones? It might be good but the league can be better without some of these teams being in crap markets. He also took away tradition of the names of the conferences and divisions to make it more generic. Did he really think people would be like "ohhh it's the Western Conference... I'll watch the NHL now." He also seems to fight like hell to keep teams in bad markets. he talks about business but how many businesses would stay where they are losing millions and millions of dollars. Then he defends the crap out of the rules saying it's fine and you'll see guys clutch and grab and then a little stick gets hit a guy and looks like it could have been a hook and they call that. And from game to game you have no idea what the calls will be. You'll see one game of 2 PP's for a team and another of 9. I find it hard to believe that some teams are that good at not taking penalties. I remember the game in Dallas just before Christmas and the Wings had 2 pp's, the last one in the last minute of play and they let a lot go that game. Then there's the TV deal. NBC doesn't pay jack for it and VS isn't on all companies and the whole Direct TV thing. Bettman's answer was: "That's a Direct TV and Comcast issue." No it's an NHL issue too. You want to grow the game and how many people aren't seeing games now? I could see David Stern stepping in in a similar situation and saying you will get this worked out. I believe Bettman has done all he can for the league. I think it's time for someone new. Back to the article, goals and points don't say if clutching and grabbing is going on or not going on. BUT I agree with him that it is slowly coming back in. You saw it in the playoffs last year. I looked a while back and I think the Wings and Pens both averaged 5 or 6 PP's a game during the season. In the finals, not counting game 5 where the Wings had like 8, both teams averaged about 2 a game. As I remember reading in an article, "Either Kirk Maltby and Hal Gill learned not to grab or the refs are letting things go." I'm not for 10 pp's a game unless they were legit penalties. Just call the rules and let the battles for the pucks go and don't call the chincy stuff. It realy wouldn't be that hard. Mickey said it a few games ago. There is a good place between how they call some light crap now and how they let it go before.

Go Miller and have a role player/ PK guy. Go Leino and hope his offense comes back. Then there is Malts but I think he may be SOL. What do you think the lines are when Hank and Cleary do come back? Datsyuk's line and Helm's line stay the same I think. I think Malts sits and Ritola goes back to GR but no idea on the lines. Maybe Fil - Hank - Cleary as a line to keep Abby in the lineup and at center. Then the 4th line is May - Abdelkader - Miller?? Then I think when Williams is back I think Abby goes back to GR.

I asked Bruce McLeod on twitter if someone was coming back but haven't heard anything. If there isn't then the Wings must want more challenges by playing with just 17 skaters. Bruce updated it: "Forward Kris Newbury has been assigned to Grand Rapids. Perhaps Valtteri Filppula is ready to return."

Exactly. Even if they take some games to find their groove just having those guys out there is better than what they have now. Their 2nd pp unit doesn't have anyone left on it from the start of the year. Well maybe Leino. And including losing Sammy, Hudler and Hossa and the injuries the Wings have lost more than 200 goals from last season? Plus their payroll is now at like 33mil or something when you take out the injured guys salaries? Newburry was assigned to GR today so someone, Fil?, has to be coming back. Cause they weren't scratching anyone so if someone wasn't coming back they would be going with 19 players on Wednesday.

This will be his best chance to get it. He should in my opinion as of right now. But Tippet, Saco and Murray have done good jobs too so that will be tough. It always ends up being who was the team who ended up better than we though or than they were last year. It should be who did the best he could with what he had. And Bab's is doing that right now.

Yeah they need to try and get one of those games. How big has this 4 game winning streak been now though? Without that this next week or two could have been worse. If they can beat Dallas and get a 4 pt coushin on them that would be big too.

Seriously? When McCarty was in his prime Ohlund wouldn't have hit Hank or Doan on Ericsson? So when you have an enforcer, I guess May isn't a real one, apparently you just play olympic games cause your star players can do what they want and never get hit even cleanly. That's good news.
