Yep bring in Iginla that will do it!!! NOT! Bringing in an African American won't help or hurt. The Wings sold out the place for years without a black player they will be able to do it again. If they want him I hope they don't. After watching him last year in the playoffs what a joke. He was right in the thick of things of all of that crap at times when they were losing. Great leader there. I don't want a guy who is ok with slashing and cheap shotting players just because your team is losing. Lets face it the hockey crowd is not the most diverse crowd to begin with. Is Iginla going to bring in the 3,000 people to fill those empty seats? No. Again for the billionth time lower ticket prices first. Second worry about marketing and they will need to work at it. They didn't have to worry about it before, not because Yzerman Shanny and Fedorov were on the team its that they won 3 cups in 6 years and two years before their first cup they went to the finals and conf finals and that second year they won 62 games while the other 3 pro teams did crap. Wings had all the attention in April May and June. The Tigers were already off to a bad start, the Pistons weren't in the playoffs, if they were they were gone in round one and the Lions weren't playing. And come fall the Lions were playing awful so watch hockey or the Lions lose???

That's how I feel. People around here, well any sports fan, jump the gun and say someone is done or whatever after a bad game. Anyone remember how bad he was playing down the stretch in 02? And he didn't have much of a chance on most of the goals. It's one game. And there were a lot of chances the Wings were giving up too. The guy is 5-2-1 and after one loss people are ready to call his career done. wow. I think Babcock and the rest of the Wings braintrust know what they are doing. I remember people saying Ellis shouldn't be on the team and how terrible he was before the start of the season. hows that turned out? People need to stop freaking out so much.

The starting lineup is the only thing voted on though isn't it? So all the people who deserve to be there will be there.

He was one of the best players in the playoffs in 04 for the Wings and was one of the betters ones in 06. The trade was a good one. Whos to say Fleischmann would even be playing on this team and I can for sure you he wouldn't have been playing the years Lang was here. And again like people have said you have to give up something to get something. Its easy now to say oh he was lazy or whatever. Most people here were throwing a party when the Wings picked up the leagues leading scorer.

It's possible but it's too early to tell. And you will stumble eventually. You can't keep up this pace all year. If they do I think they come apart in the playoffs. You just can't do it for 82 games and then 20+ playoff games. I still don't know how the Wings finished 96 with a record of 57-8-5. People thought the Coyotes could do it in 98-99 too anyone remember that? They finished 4th in the west behind Dal, Col and Det. Wait till Feb. or Mar. and then you can make a better guess.

While I like that the Ducks are struggling season is not even a 1/4 over. I mean look at how bad Atl started and they are only 3 points out of the final playoff spot right now. As for his comments I think it's mostly a joke. And if somehow it isn't then ok good. Rafalski is better and the team is 11-2-1. Not a big deal.

Deserves? On the open market he could say well look what Gomez and Drury got I should get 8mil compared to them. I would like him right around what Dats got, right around 7mil. Thats a lot of money tied up in two players but you have to keep them.

I was gonna say this before. They did it way back when so just because there are new sweaters now it's bad? I'll admit it looks funny because it was on the left for so long but I think it looks fine.

How many times have we gone over this? The ticket prices are the biggest thing hurting people showing up. When you have 3 other competitive teams in the town people aren't obessed like they used to be and that hurts too. I don't think the schedule hurts THAT much. The Wings have been playing these teams for the most part the last 7 years or so. Bettman and the league were trying to force rivalries which I didn't udnerstand cause playing the Preds a whopping 2 more times was going to make a bigger rivalry? Would more people come around if the Wings were playing TO or the Habs and what not? Maybe but at most you are only going to have those guys in your building once a year in the old system anyways. Lower ticket prices and try to market this team a little better. No marketing was needed when they were the only thing worth watching 10 years ago. All you had to say was 62 wins last year or defending Stanley Cup champs and people came running.

The article is dumb cause it has bee one game. And mlive's article had it in the headline that the sellout streak was over. People mention the tigers being able to bring in people but for the most part you can take a family to a tigers game. A lot more cheaper seats. Its also a lot easier when it during the summer and when you have 40,000 seats and 81 homes games you have to have cheaper prices. If you look the teams that play fewer homes games the prices are higher cause the interest is there for your casual fans because you don't have to pay attention for 82-162 games. But the economy is terrible and the prices for Wings games are too high. And guess what all 4 sports teams are doing well. When the Lions were average to bad and the pistons were around .500 and the Tigers were terrible and the Wings were winning every year its easy to draw in fans. But the Tigers have had 2 winning years in a row, the pistons have gone to 5 straight conference finals and the Lions are 3-1. I do agree marketing has to be better here and more so in the US. They have to find a way to appeal to casual fans. As for more offense maybe they really need to do something now. I wasn't for making the nets bigger until hearing Keith Jones talk about it on VS the other night and he kinda sold me on it. As for worrying about it theres no reason yet.

Gotcha. So is it a special station that only some cable packages have or something? Not like it will matter with baseball being over and the Wings getting preference come playoff time.

I am surprised that Time Warner doesn't have a contract with them yet. My cable company Millennium, which no one has ever heard of, even has Vs. now. I just dropped an email to them seeing if they have any info about the NHL Network. They probably won't but I can dream. Like some said ESPN sucks for hockey info or highlights except for when you get into the cup finals they will show more but thats just cause there isn't much else going on besides the NBA finals and some baseball.

My take on it is that management knows quite a bit more than any of us on this board does. If they didn't people in here would be in the front office. And honestly if some people in here were people would get released every wek. So I have faith in what they do. Fans in here were saying the Blue Jackets would be better than the Wings back in 06. How'd that one turn out? People in here also didn't see the Wings getting past the Flames, I was a skeptical one but I wasn't thinking they were done for sure. Ellis might not have the best hockey skills but he knows his role isn't to score goals, he's even said so.

I like what Downey brings. Mickey and Ken were saying the other night that he's very McCarty like. And thats what this team needed. Not the big goons like some people seemed to want. Downey is a 3rd/most likely 4th line guy that bring energy and stands up for his teammates. Glad to see Ellis gets a shot and I agree that Grigs is better off down in GR for a little while. This could be another good year. People are saying the Wings won't be able to do it again just like the last two years. Not quite as bad as the last few years but I like not having the attention that SJ and the Ducks and Rangers are getting.

Kinda cool. Good for him. I am very happy he's here for the long term. After the lockout and how he didn't seem to want to be here and just wanted the money I am glad he stayed. As for the A though does it really matter when you are rotating between 3 guys. Its almost like we are doing this just cause Draper is here for a little while still and so is Lidstrom. But when one of them move on you'll get it.

I hope my cable company will end up carrying it. I don't really need it but would be nice to have. I am very happy I was able to add a sports package recently to get VS. which I didn't have until recently. Whenever it lauches for real I will put a call into my cable company. I won't be calling them up and get someone who has no information about a channel that really doesn't exhist yet.

Thats what I had said in the other thread. I thought Schneider was a good signing, even though he was over paid, since it seems Neids was leaning towards retiring but the Bert signing was dumb when you didn't know for sure about Selanne and you still had Penner to sign.

Even if Penner doesn't improve and stays at scoring in the 20 goal range it would be better to have him. Berts on the downside of the hill of his career now. Would have still liked to have him for a year or two dont get me wrong but losing Penner hurts but again even without Bert being there it would have been hard to take on that cap hit for a guy who isn't worth that money yet.

I think I mentioned it before in this thread the bigger area where Burke messed up was signing Bert to a deal worth 4mil a year and it being 2 years. So not only does it hurt them this year but next summer as well. After signing Schneider, which was a good signing even though he over paid, getting his own guys signed should have been his next big thing. And what if Selanne wants to come back and he can't. You are kicking him to the curb in favor of Bert? Burke doesn't make many bad choices in my mind in terms of managing his team. So I wonder what he was thinking.

And if he overpays then Getzlaf and Perry will be like if he's worth 4.3mil what are we worth?

Well we've got 10 minutes until the Ducks need to say what they are doing. Burke is really screwing with Lowe on this one. Waiting till the last minute to say what they are doing. Again if I'm the Ducks I let him walk.

He gets stuff right sometimes but other times his stuff is so out of left field. Especially his deadline stuff last year. After Calder was already a Wing and Bert too he said Lapointe to Wings E3 or whatever and I was like ummmm they don't need him and I'm sure they don't have the cap space now. I read it for entertainment but I don't take much out of it. Hes made some good points about Nashville recently. To me hes a fan with a few "connections" so he tries to put things together himself. Like oh "huge deal" might be coming. well yeah a huge deal could be coming at any time. With how much GM's probably talk to different teams anything is possible.
