we've seen what holding back some of our forwards over old vets has done this year. Is there a case that we could do the same with the young D men? Almquist 23 5'11" 178lb LH I really hope that Almquist gets a good chance to show what he can do in pre-season, although I fear his fate would have been decided long before the 2014-15 camp gets here. Out of options and with a crowded roster next year means Wings fans may never see Adam in a Wings uniform again. His top hockey sense and passing skill from the blueline may not be enough to give him that extra look that he needs to earn that spot on the roster. Maybe he goes to another organisation and hits it off, but I can't see him being able to do it here. His points from the blueline in GR are not to be sniffed at and are just short of what Kronwall put up while on the farm. I fear the numbers game will see Almquist leave this summer. Marchenko 22 6'2 212lb RH has been one of the griffins most reliable D men this year and stepped into the AHL without missing a beat. Played almost 100 games in the KHL and was nearly a PPG in his early years in the MHL. Played 10 games as a 17yr old for CSKA, and you dont do that without someone seeing you've got what it takes. Alexei looks like he could step into a # 6/7 spot next season and it would not surprise me if he does. Sproul 21 6'4" 205lb RH the Wings are going to pick Ryan over Almquist to be the future 2PP QB. His size and booming shot will give him the uperhand. Adam has more hockey smarts but his lack of size will see his time in Detroit cut short this summer by being traded or him looking for pastures new. Sproul has had a solid first pro year in GR and was rewarded by his last day call up. By all accounts he made a good impression on Babs which is never a bad thing too do. Another summer in the gym could see the rookie return at 220lb and give him a shot at making the senior side, but another year in GR to hone is skill's and defensive duties is more likely. Ouellet 20 6' 200lb LH the solidly built French Canadien is a future Cpt/A in the making. He makes smart plays and is rarely caught out of position. He didn't try anything fancy in his 4 games he did see in Detroit and would make a decent safe # 6 or 7 in Detroit next year. He has had a steady first year in the pros and is capable of putting up some decent numbers, which is what I think he will be doing in GR next year along with his last day game partner in St Louis. Another year seasoning is what Xavier will get and then he'll be making a real push for a 2015-16 roster spot.

Have the Wings brass pulled off another coup? Willie had 4 helpers in last nights Red Deer's win which puts him top of the scoring charts in the WHL. Early doors I know but very encouraging to see. He is supposed to be supporting Ferraro, but with Landon out with a knee injury he has taken on the lead role and so far doing a fine job. Keep it up Willie!!

I hope Sproul gets some more chances to let that boomer go on the point, both he and O have looked ok at the back. Some rookie hesitation moments that caught them out more so Sproul but hey if the didnt make any they'd have both been up all year. So far so good.

just happy to be in it really. We seem to have the Bruins # so they may be a little worried about getting us. for once in a long time we can just go out and play as the pressure will be on either the Bruins or the Pens as we are the underdogs. Im just excited for next season. The kids have a whole year under their belts and with the addition of 2 or 3 of the right pieces we can be back in the top 5 again and a real force. Well done Babs and the boys, you've got in and all of us on these boards are proud of you as we had feared the run was over and to do it in the circumstances is a big bonus. Babs for the JA?

we need to go balls out tonight against the Sabres bag the 2 points and take the pressure off. I think that would see us home, cause i cant see NJ, Leafs and Caps winning all their remaining games and us not picking a point up in ours.

with the young guns doing so well and keeping various vets off the roster, are we likely set as we are? Or does anyone think that apart from Z, we will see any of the guys below seeing ice during the playoffs? Tootoo Zetterberg Samuelsson Cleary Emmerton Bertuzzi Andersson Weiss. with Grand Rapids doing so well i doubt either Almqvist or Quellet get a look in unless the Griffs bomb and they become Black aces ( providing the Wings get in ). Ive seen that Weiss is done for the year and Z could be back for the playoffs, but apart from him i could maybe see Babs boy Cleary could getting in on the Vet card!! Or will the top brass go vet mad come playoff time? The vet status theory is something to bare in mind. The 8 forwards above have over 5000 reg season games under their belts, and that is alot of mileage.

i think we'll be ready tues in Buffalo get the win and take a point off a resting Pens team on Weds. making fridays Canes game a party atmosphere type game which the Wings will win out on. My worst fears would be going to St Louis needing a win to get in. Im confident the boys will have it wrapped up before then.

If i am correct, i do believe that if the Wings win in Hab land tonight and the Caps, Leafs and Devils all lose in regulation have booked a place in the post season.? Only one im iffy on is the Devils, is it head to head on tied points first or is it ROW? Maybe NJ can still match us on points but not sure with the factors that solve tied issue's.
