its like Kenny has held his hand up and admitted he made a complete b##ls up with the signing of Sammy. If he had given him a deal worth $1.5m per year then maybe it wouldn't have been so bad but $3m a year was a major overpayment.

it gives us $100,000 cap relief but a much needed roster spoy. this is interesting thou as many reports say he wont be claimed on waivers, I got a hunch that Kenny has sounded some teams out about Sammy, they wont take on his salary but may thru waivers. He could do a contender a job on their 3/4 line maybe.

Redwings affiliate Toledo have given a contract to 22 yr old Russian D Ildar Telyakov, could this be a way of the Wings getting a look at this kid prior to the draft. He is overage, played most of his career in the lower Russian leagues is undrafted and his stats are not outstanding but he could look Chara straight in the eyes!! Interesting as to why Toledo would have signed him.

are there any pending UFA's involved in the Olympic roster and has Babs got the guile to tap them up whilst coaching them in Feb. Its just a thought but he could use his position to get an inside track for Kenny to approach them.

I don't think Kenny will do anything, unless we go on a 12 game tear , he'll just sit and let the season peeter out. He will then try and sign Legwand on the cheap as a home town boy gesture finishing his career with his team. Unless we are in contention I don't see any free agents coming here.

I just hope we are still in the game going into the 3rd. We need the likes of Bert, Cleary and Big E to step up and to help Z and Nik coax this young Wings team through this difficult game and the upcoming few weeks till the injury list starts to subside. Once we do have a fully fit roster we will be able to compete against the top sides, I hope this doesn't come too late.

why doesn't Babs put tats helmer and Gus together as the 2nd line, I mean their speed would at least give the hawks something to think about and they could at least compete in that aspect as well as having a scoring threat. I believe he has Gus Z Abby Jurco Riley Bert as the projected 1 & 2 combos.

actually it would make a lot of sense, if Weiss plays upto his 2nd line C role. Z can look after the 1st line giving us a potential scoring 3rd line that no other team could match up against without splitting up their lines. Pav would still be able to play on the PP. Pav is 36 this year and we need to make sure we look after him and not burn him out by overplay. Already this year he has been out more games than we are use to. Having him in full swing for 16-19 mins a game would be of more benefit to the Wings than losing him for 6-8 games a couple of times a year by overplaying him.

Would Sammy ask for a trade? I mean he's not stupid and he surely knows that he isn't going to see the ice much from here on in. Yesterday was a fine example, Tartar comes back but they don't send Emmerton of Jurco back to GR, they sit Sammy. Is he content to sit out the remainder of his contract, I doubt many teams would want to take it on thou so I guess he's here in the press box till end of the season.

i believe missing the playoffs would be a blessing in disguise. It would make it impossable for Kenny to re-sign his aging UFA's, and actually justify it. We have had a look at some of our prospects and they have shown that they are capable of filling voids that will be made by letting the upcoming ufa's go. Only Alfie would be asked to re-sign in an ideal world, and we havent got anyone to replace him. Next year could be the start of a genuine youth movement, but we do need a vet to come in and replace Quincey and Alfredsson if he goes. In one way i would love Mantha to come straight in next year but i see him going to the Griffs for the start of the season at least. I have this vision of Pav centering the 3rd line with Mantha and Jurco as his wings. This depends on Weiss coming round and being the 2nd line C as he was signed to do. Tats and Gus as top 6 forwards with Z Mule Weiss and Alfie or his replacement. 4th line Abdelkader Helm Sheahan which leaves us Miller

i dont think we'll see any deals before this deadline. front office will just let the ufa's on our roster run out and let them all hit free agency. maybe they ask Alfie back and an outside possability they give monster another year but the rest will be let go.This would free up $12m. I think they will go after 2 Ufa's or trades to fill Quincey and Bertuzzi spots. The other 3 spots will be filled from within. Gustavsson resign or give Mrazek the back up job. Quincey let go sign free agent or trade to upgrade. Alfredsson resign if he wants to stay or sign replacement from fa or trade. Bertuzzi let go sign free agent to replace. Samuelsson let go Jurco to take spot. Cleary let go Sheahan to take spot. Eaves let go Glendening to take spot. This scenario isnt my choice but its what i believe the front office will do. This leaves Tootoo in limbo, they will try and trade him or use him in a package but we have a few young players who are out of option's as well. Almqvist and Ferraro the most notable. So we are going to see some movement one way or another.
