Erik Karlsson, his contract is up at the end of this season. Really like this kid, can skate like the wind and is so smooth over the ice. The Sens aint going to let him sniff the free agent water thou, but id try and tempt him a 21 yr old with over 150 games under his belt, but i suppose if Smith had been drafted by the Sens then he'd have played the same amount.

Franzen was drafted as a 3/4 liner foremost, he has become a scorer, he is not what i would call a sniper per say. BUT on this current Wings roster he is the closest we have to one, so he does somewhat unfortunately carry the can. Hopefully Kenny may address this, but i dont see any Lucky luc's or Brett's out there at present, who'll be available. This cap era sucks!!

i dont know, the guys played well but got mugged in the 1st really. out shooting a team in their barn 40-18 and not getting anything from it is tuff on them. i think that they will win in chi town, but im not sure about using a guy like nyquist only 6+ mins in what is a checking role, his got alot more to his game than that. helm conner and mursak could be a very handy 4th line for us, speed aplenty.

the good thing about this years tourney is that all of the 5 Wings prospects have been good with one still in with a chance to get a gold medal. One player not at the WJC is defenseman Alexei Marchenko. He was expected to be Russia’s captain but has been out since October with a knee injury. So all sounds good for the future, also the kid that we had at the prospects camp is having a solid tourney for Russia as well, i hope we are keeping are eyes on him still. (Artyom Sergeyev) for those wondering who i am on about.

out of that i think the 1st star has to be Mrazek absolute awesome tourney on a very average Czech team. Also Jurco's stats are impressive on a weak Slovak side, he also reg a +4 rating as well which was top for the Slovak's with only 2 other guys with plus ratings. Now that makes Kenny's Ericsson deal seem not so bad!! Both are 27yrs old and maybe a #4/5 D at best. If its just stats then Big E is probably just ahead, Gorges 403 g 10+59 +18 207pims Ericsson 201g 10+30 +3 185pims. Although Jon is bigger i would argue that Josh is the more physical player. Some UFA's on the blueline could be in for a big pay rise come the trade window on this news.

comparing the contracts sft, not what youve added to it. Ericsson seems to be the goat/whipping boy on these boards, he isnt as bad as fans make him out to be. When he makes a mistake everyone is on him like a rash, to try prove the point. Other more senior D men have made some howlers this year and it tends to be overlooked. Yes he is overpaid but whos the guy who offered him the contract? We have 3 of our D in the top 8 in the league in the +- and Ericsson is one of them so he cant be doing that of an awful job.

the question i would ask is, who would fit into the Wings system better Weber or Suter?

i think a special mention should go to Drew Miller, he is having a great year and babs is rewarding him too with his mins going up. in fact i believe he is well on course for a career year, one of the unsung guys on the team that most average fans tend to miss the work he does.
