well its been over 2 weeks since i started this thread and im afraid lil Rex hasn't done much to support his case. 8 games on and he has just the 1 helper and is a -3 whilst ave just over 11mins a game, with pp time. I dont think that Kenny will pull the trigger just yet, but its gotta be a concern for him. How long do they let this carry on? Is there a team wholl trade with us? Maybe the Blue Jax are losing patience with Filatov, straight swap anyone? If the Wings waived Jiri, would a team take a chance and cough up the $'s. The only thing we would gain there is nearly $3m in cap space, which wouldnt be a bad thing. Bring up Mursak or Tatar for short spells, give them a taste of the bigs. I really hope Rex can shake himself outta this funk and start putting up some numbers, another 1 point 8 game stretch aint going to help him thou. Here's hoping he lights the lamp tonight against the Devs and kick starts the rest of his season.

Played 30 7+16 and a +15 to go with his 16.09TOI/G, Huds could sure do with some of that at the moment.

does anyway recall the 75-76 season? Not many i bet, but can any of the old school out there remember the leading pims takers that season being Bryan Watson, a hulking 5'9" 170lb D man with 322 pims in 79 games and Dennis Polonich the 5'6" 165lb centre soon to be Capt, who had 302 pims in just 57 games. Watson had 2 stints with the Wings covering 6 seasons,65-67 and 73-77 playing 302 games and accumilating 897pims. Polonich played his whole 8 year NHL career for the Wings, 390 games and amassing 1242pims in that time. Now i never saw him play, although he spent a season here in the UK playing for the London Lions before starting his NHL career, but he sounds like a fiesty lil bugga to me. Any one recall either of them?

Lilja at the Ducks has played 7 games and has 1 assist with a -3 rating and a ave of 17.15 min ice time. Hossa at the Hawks has 7+4 in 11 games with a +4 rating and ave of 19.33 ice time. Kopecky has played 12 games for the Hawks and has 1+8 with a -1 rating. Tomas is getting 18.35 of ice time. How times change eh? Quincey is having a quiet start, after having 2 good season's he is pointless in 11 games and is -4 ave 19.39 min ice time. Ex prospect Matthias has played 7 games for the Panthers has 2+2 with a +3 rating and is ave 11.48 on the ice. Avery at the Rangers has gained 1+6 in his 10 games to date amassing 25pims and a +3 rating within his 14.18 of ice per game. Leino at the Flyers has played in all of their 11 games to date collecting 2+7 with a +2 rating and ave 15.29 out on the ice. Whitney has played 8 games for the Yotes collecting just 3 assists with a -4 rating and also has been getting 15.29 ice time. Ritola has been involved in 4 games for the Lightning and has 1+1 with a -2 rating and ave 9.27 mins on the ice. Lebda at the Leafs has played 4 times so far and is pointless with a -1 rating to go with his 13.43 mins of ice time. Samuelsson at the Nucks has got 1+5 in his 9 games but has a -2 rating. He has been getting an ave of 17.07 mins out on the ice. another ex prospect Fleischman has featured in all 11 of the Caps games and has 3+2 with a +5 rating and 14.25 ave ice time. Still going strong at the Caps as well is Knuble with 1+3 in 11 games a -1 rating and 18.13 mins out on the ice.

Id like Lids to mentor Smith for awhile. The kid is gunna be on the team next year for sure and if Kindl and Ericsson dont start improving then he could be here this year. the 3 FA's on d at the end of this season are Lids Salei and Big rig. What I find interesting is that Kronwall doesnt have a NTC, Smith has 3 years at $.875m per year!? Thats one way to get an extra $2+m into Kennys bargaining hands. This coming close season is gunna be very interesting.

Id love to see those 2 with Nyqvist as the centre, now that is something to look forward to. 2012 maybe at the Joe?

the good thing about Pasha is that he is usually a slow starter, he's at a ppg already...........things are only gunna get better. We really need that 3rd line to start to click or there's a change a cummin. Maybe Babs will promote the hole 4th line to 3rd line and put the so called 3rd line boys out there against the other teams 4th liners. Helmer, Patty and Drew/Abby can hold their own with any other 3rd line out there.

if the Wings beat the Flames thurs and the Leafs lose at home to the NYR, then we'll be level with them and we aint got it going yet. food for thought really.

Peter Bondra and Alexi Kovalev on Fed's wings would have been pretty awesome. But maybe the Wings could have done something with these guys? Teemu Riihijarvi 6'6" forward taken 12th overall '95. Matt Zultek 6'4" wing taken 15th overall '97. Michael Henrich 6'2" forward who was the only 1st round pick in '98 not to play a game in the show. Sasha Pokulok 6'5" D selected 14th overall in '05 now playing in the DEL. A guy who should have been given more of a chance at NHL level was Jody Gage, who the older fans on here will recall was drafted by the Wings. Went on to get over 1000pts in the 'A'. For entertainment value, Frank Bialowas and Sasha Lakovic on the Wings 4th line with Joey Kocur as centre.

Kenny, get the guy signed up. At least we'll have a good 3rd/4th line guy who'll police the top guys and provide the Wings with an intimidating prescence on the ice. We have the skill and the flair and pace, but its that old school factor that is missing, never mind our PP is our enforcer tosh!! He aint enforcing much as of yet! Well i suppose 3 PP goals so far aint bad. Babs has stated he likes having a guy who'll look out for his team mates, but to get on the Wings roster hes gotta be able to play. Evgeny Artyukhin fits the bill in my book. Who goes or makes way for him or A/N enforcer thou? tough call but unless we do something then we'll keep seeing this being done to our top guys. What I cant work out is that Raffi goes down for 3-4 weeks and instead of bringing up a potential top 4 guy to replace him the Wings call up Janik who is a stay at home guy. Id thro young Smith in and see how he does, at least the kid has great wheels to go with his high end skill set. The even mins Babs was going on about hasnt lasted long, Lids logging over 27 mins last night and Janik under 10 mins, im probably just letting off steam here but i get so frustrated when we dont try the good rookies that weve got. 2 many double standards on here, Probie was indisciplined at times and sometimes a thug but we all loved the guy. Artyukhin is the sort of player that you'd come to love if he was wearing a winged wheel jersey. I could live some of his dumb penalties, if he had an effect on how opposing teams played against us, ie keeping their heads up and watching over their shoulders!! instead of them creaming our guys knowing no one will answer the bell. When our post season run started in 90-91 with Bryan Murray we had 6 players who had over 100pims each and the team had 1940pims for the year, but we also had 10 guys who got into double figures lighting the lamp. 91-92 saw a rise in both,2050 team pims with 7 players surpassing the 100pim mark and 11 guys scoring in double figures with 5 of them hitting 30+ goals. So i would say the arguments for and against could go on and on, I just feel we need a guy on the team who'll make the opposition think twice and let our skill guys play more freely. Lets re-visit this in 2 weeks and see where we are then.

it could be time for Kenny to really earn his $'s and make a tough and unpopular call for the good of the team long term.
