Most unlikely Detroit Red Wings prospect to go big?

Pare, lacks size but the puck just follows him. Great jnr #'s and his stats for 2 yrs in Gr aint to bad either PL 128 37g 43a +40 rating. Bareing in mind the Griffs aint been to hot the past couple of years I doubt any other player has close to those stats. Most unlikely Wing Def! Tatar Nyquist Mursak looks a nice prospected 2/3 line.

3/9 GDT: Flames 4 at Red Wings 2

If everyone can just be realistic for a minute, we have gained 2 points in 2 games. Now how many on here expected us to win in Chicago? and lose at home to the Flames? We just earnt the points arse about face so we head into Thurs game against the Wild with the total amount of points that we expected to have. Just a downer that we couldn't capatalise on the great road win Sun by doubling the points last night. But thats the beauty of this game, its just doesn't go to plan, I mean the Ducks fans must be having kittens watching their team keep blowing games. The biggest bane for the Wings this year apart from all the injuries has been all the OT loses, I mean 12, if we had won halve of those the picture would look alot more rosy. This year was a transitional one and if we do make the playoffs then I think we have reached the goal set out at the start of the season. We are not and if we had stayed healthy all year, going to win the SC this year, going 2 rounds would be good for us. Hopefully we can strenghten in the off season and get some fresh blood/legs onto the roster to have a genuine challenge in what will be Nic's last season.

Wings have a big opportunity here

Well all the games went our way last night with the Stars Blues Ducks and Jax all losing. Now if only we can pull a rabbit out of the hat and win in Chi town and hope the Wild can burn the Flames then it has been a great weekend for us.

    Gustav Nyquist

The comparison was the size and weight issue, not the skill level.Although at prsent he is not on Kane's level he has had 2 good seasons so far in the NCAA. I feel Gus is going to be another late round gem that the Wings scouting have found. Fingers crossed .

    Gustav Nyquist

Yes and no, he could do with a few more pounds, but there have been skilled guys make the grade without bulking up. Pat Kane is one example. If Gustav comes in and does the same I won't be worrying about the lack of size/weight.

    Black Aces

21 games left to save our toughest regular season for 20 years. This is going to be a close call this year with 7 teams vying for the bottom 2 places and only 7 points seperating the 7th placed team from the 13th at present. Ten of those games left are against teams in that group with us. Going .500 isn't gunna cut it for us thou, it would give us 89 points and that was good enough for 9th place last year. The Ducks got 8th with 91 points. The key for us is our home form. If we can stay unbeaten for our remaining 12 home games then I feel that will get us in maybe 7th spot. So my question to you all is, will we be having the Black aces again this year? and if so which 7 guys would you call up, if GR dont make their playoffs. Do any of you think that Babs would actually throu in any of them into a game?

    Brad May clears waivers

I hope Brad stays and goes to mentor the kids in GR. Hopefully we'll get in the playoffs and he gets one last shot at a run with the senior team. As people have said before we need a Brad may type guy on the team, its just we need the 27yr old version.

Who will you support at the Olympics?

Slovakia, as I have alot of friends at work who are from there.(who are making our rec team alot better!!) and Russia as I can't wait to see what their forward lines can do. Also will be looking out for Latvia as one of the players on our local pro side (Maris Ziedens) has played for them at the Olympics before. Go Team GB! well I can dream a little.

2/6 GDT: Red Wings 3 at Kings 4

just unreal, 3 nil up and blow it, still Howard didnt help the cause and losing 3 players shouldn't go unoticed by the doomedayers but it will. So who gets called up now?

    The next Wings double act........?

After watching the Griffs up and down season to date, I have some real positive vibes for the Wings future. Although the goalie tandom has been shaky of late to say the least, we could end up with a top draw netty in McCollum and at worst a #2 in Larsson. In the sleeper section we have the steady Kolosov. He could become a reliable 6/7 guy for the Wings providing that shut down physical style of play that Lilja has down for us. Not overly flash on the puck but gets the job done. Pyett will be an upgrade on Lebda. Not the wheels but has more offensive potential than Lebda and he is having a solid 2nd pro year. Possably another 2 years away from the Wings roster but hopefully his point output will improve each year. My topic title surrounds the 2 players who seem to have some great chemistry out on the ice each time they play together. Mursak and Tatar just look made for each other. Tatar has some wheels but Mursak has Helm like speed with the scoring touch. These pair always look dangerous each shift and more than not produce a scoring chance each shift. Mursak is having a breakout 2nd year after struggling in his rookie year and Tatar is just defying the odds for a kid his age. Could we be looking at Detroits next Euro twins? Long way to go yet but the signs are encouraging.

    Val Filppula

At the end of the day players are worth what the Org is willing to pay them, so is Flip worth the money in the eyes of who matter? Obviously yes, I don't like the long term contracts but in Filppula's case the Wings brass may have got this one right. Val is missing his sidekick Rex and that may be hindering his out put this year, but the whole team is suffering this year. Alot of teams are gunna feel the pinch with all the front end long term loaded contracts I think a 5 year deal should be the max anyway.

    No Sign of it stopping

I can't put my finger on it, sloppy D or just poor netminding but the Griffs find themselves in another game trailing by 3. Out shooting their hosts by 10 - 7 but on the wrong end of a 3-0 scoreline after the 1st.

    Igor Grigorenko

He now has 19+12 and a +22 rating in 47 games. This is now his best return in the Russian Elite/KHL since the 02-03 season where he lead Tolyatti Lada with 19+11 in 47 games as a 19 yr old. A certain Alexander Semin was also on the roster and finished with 10+7.

Tatar Steals the #1 Wings Prospect Ranking from Kindl

if you mean Andrej Nestrasil, he has a shoulder injury and is out of Victoriavilles line up for 3 weeks. He will be okay when he returns and Im sure he'll move up the charts. I think last years draft could prove to be one of the best the Wings have had for awhile. I see both of them and Ferraro being on the roster. Ref Tatar thou: The 5-foot-10, 179-pound winger simply has too much going for him, with all the tools to be an impact scoring-line player for the Red Wings five years from now. 5 years !! If he aint a Wing within 2 years Ill be very surprised and miffed! I said he'll be a Redwing before he's 20 and Im sticking with it. Mitchell Callahan is the dark horse in this list, if he can bulk up to 200Lb we have ourselfs are very nice little 4th line pain in the arse with a scoring touch. He is having a good year so far, just needs to improve his skating. Here's a bold statement thou, Smith and Almqvist are going to be the next Murphy and Lids!! My mate watches the Badgers and he says Smith is on another level most nights.

    Contracts renewals

In theory Eaves Miller and Helm could be our 3/4th line next year at a cost of $1.625m, which in all is a good deal. Bert I feel has earned himself another contract. Williams has had a ill timed injury and he was bought in to man the point on the 2nd pp unit, which Kindl will be doing next year. Kindls contract for next year is half of what Williams is getting. I'd be very surprised if he is kept next year. I have a feeling that Maltby will hang them up at the end of this year. He knows how the org works and he has been kept in the family maybe a couple of years longer than he ought to have been and he'll repay them by making the decision for them. Although May has done what has been asked of him this will be his only year as a Wing. I would really like us to keep this sort of player on the team but we need a younger version who can make a impact on the scoreboard as well as the opponents chins, whose out there who'll be available? Im not sure about Homer, he does what he does best of all bare none, but he is starting to look to slow to be out on the top 2 lines. Could we use him as a 4th line and PP specialist next year. It needs thinking about, but he would have to take a drop in his $ as $2.25m is too expensive for that sort of role. the other3 UFA's are all on the D. #1 Lids, needs sorting out first so Holland knows what he will be playing with. Unwritten rule that no one earns more than the Capt. Well Pav is the next highest earner on $6.7m, so if the rule stays in tact then Lids gets $6.8m at least. Not much of a drop from his current $7.45m! One would hope that if Nic does carry on playing then he would help out be dropping at least to $5m to give Kenny some spending clout for next year. I hope Lilja gets the all clear and gets re-signed. We sure have missed the underated chap. With Kindl coming up, I think that both Meech and Lebda could be gone next year, if not sooner. This will all depend on Lids giving Kenny an early indication of his intentions for next season. If he hangs them up then Kenny will have to go and get a bonifide top 4 guy at least top 2 at best. This off season is going to be very interesting.

    Ville Leino Appreciation Thread

I do feel he hasn't had as good a season as he would have expected or we did. I had him down to get 30-35 points this year. But saying that the supporting cast isn't as strong. I mean if i had Pav as my C and Hoss on the other wing I'd have gotten points on last years team! Expectations were high, a top scorer in the Finnish league he set some of his own standards. I think he'll come good its whether he does it here or on another team is what is down to him.
