    Osgood to start vs. Smashvegas

Judging by the trg lines today looks like Huds and Kops will be in the press box Wed night.

    Wings join Forsberg hunt

I'd go after Hossa if the chance arose. Younger by 5 years, great speed with decent size also could tie him to a longer contract say 2-3 yrs. Cost would be the issue, and who we would have to give up to land him. He has also played with Cleary and Lilja in the lockout season in Sweden for Mora. Can't see it happening but he'd be a better risk than flopper.

    Should Detroit sign the Donatis?

Quick update on the Donati boys; Tyler is playing in the AHL for Bingham/Sens has 2+3 from 9 games. Justin is icing in the ECHL for Las Vegas and has 6 helpers in 6 games. Maybe the Wings didn't like their size!

How's Grigorenko doing back in Russia?

For anyone who is interested this is a good site to keep a check on things. I see the Morozov phnom is putting the # again. http://www.rushockey.com/
  5. Pyett now has 9+8 in 19 games so far as the new Pats Capt. Emmerton and my rookie tip Mursak aren't putting up the # expected. Both are playing on bottom placed teams in their Division's. Can the Wings get Emmerton moved from Kingston as his form seems to have dipped drastically this year. Maybe a change of scenery could do him some good.

    Our Top Line

I was just thinking that our current top line has got to be the lowest combined drafted top line ever! Can anyone else think of any other side that has such a top line or even close to it as I can't. Hommer has got to be the most underrated player in the league although his status has climbed the past 2-3 years. Dats is making a mockery of his overall draft # and Hank could be the biggest steal ever. If we take a look at their drafting and stats it just makes me glad and happy in the knowledge that we have some great scouts out there doing the Wings proud. Homer, 10th R 257th overall. Pl 712 G163 A 198 Pts 361 +17 rating. Hank , 7th R 210th overall.Pl 293 G119 A 143 Pts 262 + 85 rating. Dats , 6th R 171st overall.Pl 376 G110 A 232 Pts 342 +92 rating. So far they have combined for 50pts in 13 games this year with a +17. I wonder who'll be the next crop to make such an impact as these 3? Any one want to name 3 low picks who we may be cheering on in 09/10. Mine are Mursak, Pyett and Ericsson.

Who could Potentially be called up?

Hartigan, Cullen and Ference all have time in NHL and would do a job for us. As for any budding scoring machines, well I think our next one-s are still playing in the OHL/WHL, and not at GR. Cullen is an interesting one as he ave a point every 2 games in the NHL.

    Great away

What is up with Griffs, unbeatable away from home but can't get it done at home. as i write this we are 1-4 down at the end of the 2nd, and being outshot 27-12!! This against the same team the beat yesterday in Peoria! Anyone got any ideas as to why this is?

    Todd Bertuuuuuziiiii!

How's the prospect we gave up for Bert doing!!??
  10. Andy Pred 48

    Great away

a 7-1 loss is bad enough at home, but being outshot 14-41 would concern me more if I were coach.

    Bergeron Hurt

Makes you want the mandatory whistle for icing... Would be a start for sure.

Wings don't back down anymore! Downey, Downey!

Will be interesting to see how the top brass play it when both Drake and Franzen are of IR's. Ellis has done well and Downey has done his job when asked. Its a tough call, but on the current set up its hard to leave either of them out. Could be we may see the scartches being not being so clear cut as in previous years. Drake, Hudler, Kopecky, Downey and Ellis could rotate for th 3 places between them. ON current form i'd go for drake sitting instead of Ellis. Interseting decision's for Babs for sure.

    Enforcer? For the Wings?

Posted 24/10/2007: Evgeny Artyukhin (F) From Avangard Omsk to Unknown Added By: Davide Tuniz, Status: Confirmed I really wanted this guy 2 years ago, looks like he is on the move again but where to? He can play a bit to, has size and will drop the mits with anyway.

    grigorenko

when some people on here can finally realise that Grigs attribute's aren't lightning speed then maybe they will see things a little more clearly. I think alot of fans thought we were getting the next Bure or Mogilny!! Lets put things into perspective here; the guy was drafted 62nd overall. He wasn't a 1st round draft pick.He has never projected to be a superstar player for the Wings. A solid 2nd line forward maybe and that at present is what the Wings need. His stock rose after having a great Worlds playing on a line with Dats and Kovalchuk in 02-03, then he had the accident. The guy has great hands and on ice vision. He knows where and when to be in position which are great skills for a goalscorer. Lucky Luc had that knack and he wasn't the fastest guy on the ice. I'm not comparing the 2 just expressing that speed isn't the be all and end all. Babs and the rest of the coaching staff know this, thats why he'll be on the roster before xmas. They have got to know what he can do before any concrete decision is made about his future with Detroit. Holland has said that he'll be in Detroit before Nov 1st, well that ain't to far away but its another 2 weeks for Igor to become better aquainted to life in NA hockey, I think that is 5 more games with the Griffs. The last one being on the Sun 28th, the same day the Wings head out on the 3 game road trip to Canada. I've got a feeling that the Wings may have 2 Russian's on the roster for that trip.

Matthias - probably another wasted promising prospect..

Another #1 Star performance tonight, 21 points now in 9 games.

    Nik Jr. struggling?

Is it just me or is Kronner struggling to live up to his 1st round draft billing? Yes we are only 7 games into the season, but Babs has given him over 20 mins a game and our supposed succesor to Lids is pointless and a -3 rating. Hell the pain train has 2 helpers!! Maybe Babs should look at putting him with the C for a few games to try and get him going, I mean if you can't get some points playing with Lids then there's no hope. It may be just the thing Kronner needs to kick start his season, I'm feeling for him the longer he goes scoreless. 3 goals in 122 games ain't the output the top brass would be expecting from him. He may have to re-mold his game into a more "Markov" like style. The guy hits well and is a good skater so he should be able to adapt to that sort of role. I'm not sure the power's to be would want that thou. They have faith in him be giving him that long contract, but he has to start re-paying that faith and at the end of the day he will be judged by his output, and that has to start improving fast.

    grigorenko

he'll come good, whilst I agree that he could have come into camp in better shape, I would say he didn't know what to expect and has had a big wake up call. Hopefully he is picking up the tempo in GR and I think him going to GR says alot about his desire to make the Wings. Lets be honest, he could be back in Russia already if he wanted earning top $. He'll get points for the Griffs no doubt about that, maybe a 4pt weekend and he'll be back on the radar. I just got a feeling that him and Dats could have some great chemistry eventually.

10/15 GDT: Anaheim Ducks 6, Red Wings 3

think we'll end up losing this one guys. Giguere will pull out all the stops to see the Ducks home by 4-2, 4th eng. Hope I'm wrong but just think the trip will catch up with us. Will settle for a 5 point haul on the 4 game trip thou.
  19. Andy Pred 48

    Who will it be?

Well at present, our #1 isn't doing anything spectacular in GR so maybe Griggs will spend longer at van Andel unless he starts to up root trees in the next 2 weeks. I still believe that he could be a good 2nd line winger for us. The kid Ericsson is leading the AHL after 3 games in +- with a +6 rating. he started well last year but had a blip in the middle season. Can he keep it going all year? I think he may get a call but later in the season, the Wings like what he has and also his size. Ryno has a point per game so far in his rookie year, with his size and skills maybe he could get a call if Kopecky and Downey don't work out as top brass intended. Carl Corazzini and Mark Cullen lead the Griffs in scoring so far as well as both being a +3. Would do a job for the Wings if called upon, but I think that 1 of the youger players will get the nod before them. But my tip is that Howard is going to get a call first. It's early doors yet but he has started well and with the likelyhood that Babs may want to give Dom a rest on one of the long road trips Jimmy may see the ice sooner than later. Outside tip, Ryan Oulahen.

Should Pavel and Hank stay on the same line?

I'd try these out in a month or so; Dats Zetts Grigs Sammy Mule Hommer Cleary Flip Rex Malts Draps Downey/ Drake View from press box Kops Elli

    Shoot out goal

I was wondering if anyone can throw any light on the shoot out goal stats. It seems a bit confussing that the winning goal is added to the teams overall goals scored or conceeded if you lose. But the player who scores the goal doesn't get credited for it. I know that if a shoot out goes a few rounds you could get a final shoot out score of 8-7, so not all the players are going to be credited with the goal. So why is it added to the teams goal difference? Surely it is either a goal or it isn't not both as it is in the current format. Before tonights game we had scored 5 and let in 5 but the league shows 6-6. Not a big issue I know, but could it be a major factor at the end of the season when the goals scored could get a team a playoff spot. Any one have the actual lowdown?

10/8 GDT: Red Wings 4, Edmonton Oilers 2

I can see Downey being in the line up for the Flames game. Ellis did well when out there but for his 3.11min I would have Downey in.I mean lets be honest that is less than what Norton was getting last year. Yes I realise that Matt is covering for a top 6 guy on the 4th line but I would expect him to play more than he did.If he is only going to be getting enforcer type minutes then I say leave him in the com-box and get a guy who can play the role, ie Downey. Babs has only been giving Kopecky 5.20min ave ice so far, whereas his line mates Drake and Malts have been nearer 10mins. Will be interesting to see the time they get against the Flames and Hawks. We will have a clearer picture on what Babs has in mind by the weekend I'm sure.

I don't get it> Babs states Ellis gete better and better!!? 1st period tonight, Ellis 1 shift 29 secs? why oh why. If thats all he's getting why not put Downey in and have a bit of extra muscle. Still its 3-1 now yeeeaaahhh!!!!
