    10/6 GDT: Blackhawks 4, Wings 3 (SO)

Hope your right with 4-1, but I don't think Bobby is gunna be on the Wings scoresheet bro!! I say it'll be a close one with the Wings winning by the odd goal.

    Grigorenko update

The very fact that he has gone to GR is indication enough for me that he wants on the roster back at the Joe. Lets face it, the easy option was for him to use his opt out and be sat back in Russian right now! Like some have said, earning $1m tax free compared to $75k in GR is very much a no brainer to us. But the possable potential earnings that could be had in the NHL far out weight any the RSL can offer. I'm sure that Igor has had a long chat with his advisor and I would also suggest that Dats has had some input too. I really hope he blows away all the cobwebs and shows the Griffs fans what he can do, because I really see him being a good player for the Wings and maybe on Dats wing he could be game winner on a regular basis.

    Official Downey On Waivers

The over riding factor in all this is Grigs. Once he gets up to pace he was coming back to Detroit. His skill level's are just too good not to be involved with the team and lets be honest, Ellis or Downey were only going to keep a roster space whilst Grigs gets his game legs in order. Downey knew the score when he got offered a 2 way deal so its no shock to him I would guess. So my only concern is how Babs is going to use the roster once this all settles down. I would say that who trains the hardest will get the more starts. Will be very interesting come Nov time.

Matthias - probably another wasted promising prospect..

12pts in 3 games now for young Shawn. If he keeps this up he'll re-write the record books!!

    Sopel signs with Chicago

This may bring Kindl back into the frame. I know he'll spend most of the year in GR, but if its a 2nd line PP guy that the Wings saw in Sopel, I'm afraid Meech isn't going to fill that void. Kindl is the guy for that role in the future, so I see him making some trips to the league this season. Meech may have just earn't a roster spot by default but good luck to him. I hope he does well and learns off the old dog Cheli as he'll surley be his mentor.

    Wings Roster

Anyone got the lines for todays game, I've seen that the guys who played at home v Wild will likely make up the bulk of the roster thou.

    Training Camp: Day 3

Hey, if your trying to make the Wings roster you'd scrap with your own granny!!

Notes from training camp day 2

Grigs will be in GR for a conditioning spell at the start of the season, and maybe Downey or ANother will be with the big club for the first month of the season. That will be enough time for Grigs to get up to the pace and get in better shape. Having seen him with Dats before I'm really hoping the guy comes good and pulls thru to make it. We will all benefit from that scenario.

    Grigs out of shape

From the clips of the games I have watched in the prospects camp I can say a few things for you guys. #1 Grigs is using these games to get use to the NA style of play and also the size of the rinks. #2 He is playing well within himeself, believe me you haven't seen nothing yet. #3 I would take the quote that some poster used earlier, he is looking after himself by not getting to involved with the rookies tearing about. After all he is here to try and make the Wings roster, not get injured in a rookies camp. #4 Its clear his skill level's are above most of the guys he is currently playing with, as Mr Nill suggested. #5 We'll all know if he really wants to be an NHL player when the main camp starts. WTS.

    The Lines

Franzen-Datsyuk-Holmstrom Hudler-Zetterberg-Samuelsson Cleary-Filppula-Draper Drake-Kopecky-Maltby Lidstrom-Rafalski Kronwall-Lilja Lebda-Chelios Interesting to say the least. Grigs looks like he's off to GR for a spell, unless he blows the camp apart.

Sopel and another veteran d-man coming to camp

Just a few D vets who are looking for jobs; In no order of preference, Sopel Berard Cairns Tanabe Pratt Muir TJARNQVIST* possable, he is Swedish... Vaananen Melichar Jackman Richard Not sure what the Wings are actually after, Vet to look after the kids, then maybe Cairns has a chance. But any one is going to have to fit in with the puck moving side we have. How old is Todd Simpson? He went and played in Germany last year, maybe wants one last shot?

Wings Prospect drop first game 3-2

Grigs assisted on all 3 goals. Ryno, Ritola and MaGrath had helpers. Finished 3-1 wings

Wings Prospect drop first game 3-2

Wings 3-1 up at end of 2nd v Tampa's prospects. Ericsson, Mursak and MaGrath with the goals.

    The Lines

If Huds has found that extra burst of speed, he can be the sniper we have been crying out for. Maybe he has been working on it over the summer, I hope so. I'm still hoping to see a Huds Flip Grigs line one day, just wishful thinking at the moment I suppose.

Wings Prospect drop first game 3-2

I believe that they took some dumb pens in the 3rd that hurt them. Still, early days for all of the prospects. I still think Grigs will spend some time in GR first off, but will make the roster. The kid Mursak is going to give the seniors a run for their money in the main camp. Babs is looking for guys to push the main roster guys, and most have got Kindl, Quincey and Grigs as the guys to ask the questions. I know Mursak is slated as going to Saginaw, but could he be the dark horse?

    Burke's gaff

So after all the dust has settled, the Ducks GM finds himself minus one of the most promising power forwards in the league. Has this been a major blunder by him? After signing Bert for the 2 year $4m deal, maybe he saw this coming. After all if Niedermayer plays on, Burke would have to have moved someone anyway. Did he see losing Penner less damaging than having to let Getzlaf or Perry go? If Bert becomes a bust this year then maybe Burke has made the biggest blunder of the year. I was tauting Penner 2 years ago, and there was talk at the time that the Wings were taking a look at the big winger. Bert brings a wealth of experience to any line up, but he does have that ? about his health. Penner has bags of potential and dare I say could be the premier power forward in the league within the next year or so. It will be very interesting to watch how they get on this year. I think the move could well benefit Penner as he may find himself on the Oilers 2nd line and play a more promenent role for the Edmonton side. If Bert does stay healthy then he can't really miss on the powerful Ducks side. He should rack up 60-70 points for them at least, could Penner have done the same? Well thats never going to get answered now, but I'm sure Mr Burke is crossing his fingers that Bert holds up all year and that his star studded Ducks don't let him down.

    Griffins 2007-08

One to watch could be Randal Gelech, found this write up from 2 years ago, hopefully he could be a real good pick up for the Griffs, Wings? "Randall was perhaps our most pleasant surprise among forwards in the AHL," Barnett said. "He provided a lot of offense in the Memorial Cup championship for Kelowna and played a very prominent role. We knew he had size and is solid on his skates, but he's proved, down low, to be a formidable player to deal with when he has the puck in his possession. This was the most competitive and skilled AHL season in several decades, if not ever, and for a player coming out of junior to an average AHL team to play at the level he played at was very satisfying and pleasing to us. He understands the game well and he's very capable of playing a pro-style game without the puck. With the puck, he's fearless in taking it to the net. Added experience will give him a real good opportunity to play in the NHL."

    Daze

Can anyone tell me if big Eric has offically retired, I know he hasn't really played since the lock out season but I haven't seen anything. He is still on the NHL.com active list, but then again so is Greg Johnson.
