Hey guys, I'm listening to the game live over here in the UK, has Lang touched the puck yet as I haven't heard his name mentioned at all by the commentators, yet he has had over 10 mins ice so far!
-
I see the kid Mursak has been in all 4 p/o games so far. Has he impressed the coach's, would have thought it would have been Emmerton playing more. Is Kindl looking ready for the Wings next year? I hope that they all get a plenty of exp in GR these playoffs as it will help them for the future in Detroit hopefully.

I see that Emmerton was left out for Hussey, but the kid Mursak was still in, is he getting much ice time and what do think of him, Coyote0106

Here's a puzzler for one and all. The near miss we had last night in OT when local boy David Moss had the net at his mercy. He took the shot which hit Dom's helmet and went skyward. Now if the shot had gone off Dom's helmet and into the net would the referee been right to wave the goal off? Would have been an interesting call to say the least, infront of a home crowd, the home team needing to win to stay alive. I'm lead to believe that if a shot hits the netminders helmet then play is whislted down, and we have a faceoff! Anyone want to clarify this one up ?

Just a thought, but can the Wings call up Kindl? I know he is untried, but he is a PP specialist and that is where we will be lacking bodies. Even if he only went out on the 2nd PP unit and the other guys rotate, I'd sooner see a guy on the point who plays it regular than keep putting Sammy there and him staying up front. Quincey is a more stay at home guy.

Per TSN: McLennan suspended 5 games, Lebda out for Game 6
Andy Pred 48 replied to Ozzie30's topic in General
Well maybe Bert or the Pain Train will dish out the suspension to Langkow tonight. -
And these actions by the Flames is why we should have a Boogaard type player sitting on the bench to give the cheap shot ass'es a slap when they do go over the mark. If we had then all these new threads wouldn't even be on here to whine in the first place.

I just want us to go in there and embarsse the arse off those punks in their own barn and then watch those rednecks cry in their labbatts! -
The Griffs have just scored on their first 3 shots!!!! Ellis with 2 and Booter, Kindl has an assist, Drew MaC is in net for the Moose

I'm getting that same ol same ol feeling, we just can't get past Kipper, and when we do the refs wave ir off. can't listen antmore got a game to play myself, hopefully i'll tune in for some good news when i get back. Good luck boys and lets get it done!!
-
The boys will come out Sat and do the business, then the real pressure will be back on the Flames Sunday. Kipper is due a bad game, he can't keep keeping the Flames in it all the time, can he?

Lets take this at face value. The wings played 2 solid home games and took a 2 game lead into the Saddledome on Tues night. Now Calgary are 'the' home team in the NHL and to expect us to go into their barn and sweep the series was going to be a difficult task. Saying that we can take some positives from the 2-3 loss. Apart from a couple of individual bad plays and unlucky calls, the Wings didn't play a bad road game at all. The Flames seemed a little anxious in their play and I really feel that we can feed off this for game #4. My only concern is wether Babs will tinker about with the line up. Will he look at spilting up Zetts and Dats, maybe not a such a bad call as many would believe it to be. It may be too the Wings advantage to let the Flames worry about what lines they'll be on, with them having the last change at home it would make it more of a problem to match the lines up for them. This option would only be for games in Calgary thou. I must say that we all saw that it'd be Rex who was gunna sit when Bert came in. I really feel for Jiri as he more than held his own and the line of him Flip and Franz was playing well and providing the spark for the Wings. Will Babs look at bringing Huds back in for Thurs game and sitting someone else. For me the obvious call Tues was a straight Bert for Sammy on form alone, so it'll be interesting to see what transpire's. Wholesale line changes won't help the team really, we need 4 settled lines for the rest of the playoffs, if Pav and Hank start to hit it off then we'll have no problems at all. I have confidence that we can win the game Thurs and tie it up at home in game #5. The 2nd line have got to start having an impact on these next games, whether it be Sammy or Bert out there on it, time for Bobby Lang to step up to the mark me thinks!
-
Thats the key with Flip and Huds, they spent a whole season in GR so they have got abit of chemistry already, they know each others play. No learning curve so they are ready to go so to speak.
-
Will be a very interesting roster for the Griffs. With Emmerton and Mursak signed to PTO's as well as Kindl. Will the coaching staff be bold enough to throw all 3 of them in?

PRE-GAME 3: (4/17) Red Wings @ Flames - 10:00 PM EDT
Andy Pred 48 replied to aflac9262's topic in General
Good Luck tonight boys, can't listen in to this one will be earning a buck!! come out hard and fast like the first 2 games catch them off guard and hopefully get them on the back foot at home early on. take the crowd out of the game and were halfway there . LGRW. -
An alternate captain for the Griffins, Smith signed with the Red Wings last summer after playing three years in the Edmonton system. He appeared in seven NHL games with the Oilers last season and helped Hershey capture the Calder Cup as a rookie in 1996-97.
-
Griffs blow first period 1-0 lead to trail 1-3 at end of the 2nd. Peoria needing to win are behind 0-1 at end of 1st to Milwaukee, so as it stands they'll scrape in by a point!!
-
Well its going well for the 4th line boys so far. Flip....... 2G +2 Franz... 2A +2 Rex...... 2A +2 Way to go guys.

Non-Michigan fans: How did you become a Wings fan?
Andy Pred 48 replied to Chaldean's topic in General
OK kids, are you sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin. Back in '83 whilst I was doing my bit for Queen and country in Germany my local town got itself an Ice rink which led to them having a team. Whilst on leave in 86 I went down to the rink for my first taste of Icehockey. Not really getting the full grasp of the rule's it was easy to tell who the better players were. At the time British teams could ice upto 4 non British players. We had 4 Canadian guys, 3 of which had played in the NHL. This was all a bit confusing for me as I had no idea of what that enatailed. You still there folks? Well as it transpired the 3 guys in question were a D man by the name of Jim McTaggart, who had played 71 time for the Washington Caps and a young forward who had 12 games with the Caps, Todd Bidner. The last guy was somewhat older than the others but he was by far the best player in the game. He was non other than former NHL Ironman Garry Unger, more familiar with you older fans I guess. Well after the game us fans get to mix with the players over here, in the bar, and I took it upon myself to have a chat with Garry. Its a long time ago but he told me about the NHL and that he had started out in Toronto but it was with the RedWings that he really got his career going, back in'67-'68. So with that conversation who, unbeknown to my was a former star of the big league, I took a likeing to the Detroit team. I mean I wish I had understood the moment a bit better as Garry was on the team with Gordie Howe,Alex Delvecchio,Frank Mahovlich,Norm Ullman and Gary Bergman, I wish I had the chance now to ask him some question's. That really started it all off for me, it would be another 13 years before I actually played the game myself but I was bitten by the bug back in the winter of '86 and one day I hope to fulfill my dream of seeing a game in Detroit. Hope I didn't bore you too much and you found it interesting. So I'm entering my 21st season as a Wings fan and I still get the same feeling before each game, except i can control the remote a little better now!!! -
I think if the Rangers get eliminated that he is off to GR again? I see Emmerton is there already, not sure if Mursak is thou.
-
Its a tricky one to call here. The 4th line of Flip Rex and Stein really set the ball rolling last night and gave the wings early momentum that was to be the deciding factor of the game. The goal they got was on their first shift together and also Rex set up the GW for Lids, if Bert is back on Sunday Babs has got a big headache. I wouldn't want to call it. Like many have suggested it looks like Rex, But a straight swap, Bert in for Sammy wouldn't be a bad thing either. The point argument with Sammy, I don't know. Lebs did well when he got more on the PP.

It was interesting to note the way certain teams approached their first games last night. Anaheim more or less played 3 line hockey with the forwards and the 3rd D pairing got 17 mins between them. The Ducks 4th line of the Parros, may and rookie Hartigan got just over 12 mins playing time. I know the Ducks have a few injuries but to have May and Parros on the roster was surprising. Maybe the felt that both would be needed if the Wild's Boogaard kicked off. Again the Boogeyman saw limited ice for the Wild and was a full 5mins behind the next least used player. Pittsburg carried Laraque and to a certain extent Ruutu on their roster but both had little effect on a rampant Sen's side. Ottawa rolled 4 lines throughout while the Pens had little option but to go with mainly 3 after going behind early on. It will be interesting to see if the teams tonight feel they need to carry some sort of tough guy or if Scotty's old methods and theory that you need 4 line hockey to do well.
