I only caught the trail end of this, but the panel was talking about what the Wings are going to have to pay Hank next year. I didn't hear the figure at first, but Pierre Lebrun was talking about the unwritten rule in Detroit, how no one make more than Lidstrom and how the Wings might have to bend that rule for Hank (which I completely agree with). I was looking at Kukla's Korner this morning and they mentioned this. Pierre LeBrun stated the starting point for signing Zetterberg will be $8.25 million per year. That's actually a bit more than I was thinking. I'd like to get Hank locked up for 10 years, between $70-75 million. $.8.25 million is a lot, especially when the cap is projected to be going down next year. It's likely going to take some real creativity on Holland's part to get the pieces to fit next year.

anyone else see Satellite Hotstove on HNIC last night?

Just goes to show how crazy salaries have become in the 3 years since the end of the lockout...why did they cancel the season anyway? Oh yeah, cost certainty and to keep salaries low...how's that working out for your Gary? -
It's a CANADIAN network! It sort of bugs me that they're all homers all the time, but what do you expect. I think they do a pretty good job of covering all the teams, they're all pretty knowledgeable. I prefer FSN Detroit because I am a Detroit sports fan, but TSN is what it is, a Canadian network. They have to cater to fans of Canadian teams. When I'm watching the World Juniors I only care about what the Canadian team is doing, unless the other teams have Wings prospects. I expect a lot of coverage on the Canadian team. And by the way, who did Canada beat in the gold medal game at the World Juniors? Oh yeah, Sverige. I'm not trying to be too critical, but just understand that TSN has Canadian advertisers and is watched by Canadians. They can't cater to Americans, or Swedes, or Russians. They have to please their core audience.

I kind of agree with Opie. Quincey didn't play a single game in the playoffs last year and they still won the Cup. I agree that it sucks to trade him, but if he was worthy of playing he would have. I liked him when he played in the 07 playoffs, but Ericsson and Meech have come a long way since then too. It's unfortunate to have to trade him, but there isn't any one of the top 6 that I would take out to put him in, and I'd rather get something for him now than lose him to waivers. Such is life.

by the way, has there been any mention of what the rings will look like? that's the part I am most looking forward to

Brett Hull has less management experience and he seems to be doing a decent job in Dallas...Yzerman will be a star GM when he gets the chance

The Wings will be playing a pre-season game against the Bruins on Thursday, September 25 at the Halifax Metro Centre! Tickets go on sale tomorrow morning at 9am local time! I just found out about this an hour ago. The Bruins and Habs are playing on September 22 so at the moment they are only selling ticket packages for both games, not individual ones. Pretty awesome news though! I'm getting mine as soon as they go on sale!!! :D Here's some more info! http://www.ticketatlantic.com/en/home/sports/nhl2008.aspx

I bought the package (Habs tickets too)...so it was $320...but my buddy bought the Habs tickets off me.

If we lose in the Finals, is '08-'09 season a failure?
detroitdan replied to SFwingsfan's topic in General
One of my favourite sports quotes was something I saw on a hat that the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls wore after they set the NBA record with 72 wins in the regular season: "Don't mean a thing without the ring" No quote in sports has stuck with me as much as that one. There are going to be a lot of great moments for the Wings this upcoming season, and I can't wait for it to start. But if they don't win the Cup, it's going to feel like a failure. I feel that way every year they don't win the Cup. -
They need to sign him and FAST. He's outta here if they throw $4 million per season at him.

Quotes from Babcock regarding the signing
detroitdan replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
so I guess they need to re-sign Downey ASAP since he played such a key role in the playoffs? these are not the same Wings that lost to Edmonton, Calgary, and Anaheim...they are tough and physical (Kronwall, Stuart, Lilja)...just because they don't average a fighting major every game doesn't mean they aren't tough...I can't believe we are still hearing garbage like this...they just won the freaking Stanley Cup!!!!!!!!! -
Just got back from a private function with Cleary and the Cup...that thing is spectacular...I've seen it three or four times before, but it's always a thrill to see it...here's one of my pics, I'll post a link to the rest later edit: I won't let me upload my pic!!! help!

For anyone else in Newfoundland looking to meet Dan Cleary, he'll be signing autographs at the McDonald's on Topsail Road in St. John's on Wednesday, June 25 from 3pm-5pm, without the Cup however. Here's some more details about what is going on while the Cup is here: http://www.vocm.com/news-info.asp?id=29512 It's going to be absolutely bananas in Harbour Grace on Canada Day. There might even be too many people wanting to go to this. Lots of people around here have hopped on the bandwagon lately. And if you are looking for some Cleary gear head into That Pro Look in the Avalon Mall in St. John's. They have a TON of stuff in there, they just got in t-shirts with his name on the back, they are SWEET! I got mine yesterday!
-
I wrote him an email too, stating pretty much what was written above. His logic makes absolutely no sense.
-
interesting...I was expecting that it would have it on the back, only because I got the tunnel bus over from Windsor for the games I went to and the guy sitting next to me had one on and his had Detroit on the back of it...I still love it though, I thought it was awesome that they were wearing them in the parade
-
for some reason the one I have doesn't say Detroit on the back...I got it at the Joe when I was there in April...sweet hat though
-
some of you may be interested in this: http://www.thetelegram.com/index.cfm?pid=2...2&InvID=329 it's the front page of our local paper, commemorating Cleary and the Wings...I'll be ordering a couple for my office and my room

Drake did you try the Cleve's on Prospect or Puck and Stein downtown? I'm guessing both will have some stuff in, but Puck and Stein is more likely to have a variety of stuff.
