Draper was not on the 2002 Olympic team that won gold in Salt Lake City. You're thinking of the 2004 World Cup, when he and Maltby were on the team.
-
Its not "hate" of Getzlaf or Perry. Its just that I cannot cheer for rival players. Would I want them in Red and White (Detroit's that is), of course. I cannot leave my views as a Wings fan behind to support rival players.
-
Can't do it either. Simply cannot cheer for a team that contains Pronger, Neidermayer, Getzlaf, Perry, Thornton, Marleau, Heatley, Boyle, Toews, Keith, Seabrook and worst of all, Crosby. If they win gold, great for Babs and Stevie but if they don't, I would not care at all.
-
Great news! Sad to see Malts go out like this, hopefully they bring him back on a part time basis next year so he can retire properly.

Being born in Edmonton makes me Canadian thank you very much. I will not cheer IF Canada wins gold. Plain and simple, I am a Red Wings fan before anything. I do not really care about Olympic hockey. All I want to see is that the Red Wings that are taking part in the tournament are achieving success and as such, I back Sweden as they have the largest contingent of Wings. Team Canada is littered with players that I could careless about because of past rivalries with the Red Wings thus I cannot support them.

Joe Thornton bad for canada and shark?

Amazing. -
Canada can blame themselves. The only reason they have to beat Russia and Sweden consecutively is their poor play. I am Canadian but cannot bring myself to cheer for a team that has Pronger, Neidermayer, Getzlaf, Perry, Crosby and the Sharks on the roster. With that said, Go Sweden. I hope we see a rematch of 2006 in Turin.

Hopefully Joakim Andersson.
-
I would think Newbury could be added to that list.

If the Wings are having an adverse impact on personal relationships in your life, that is a problem. I think I have a good balance. My girlfriend is not a sports fan but she understands my love of the Red Wings and essentially supports it as she will watch the odd game and we have been down to the Joe for some games as well. Like most of you, I am bitter when the Wings lose in the playoffs. I live and die with them in the playoffs. You guys can relate, there are not many feelings like the one that runs through me on a playoff gameday. I am certain that a part of me died on June 12th, 2009 when I watched Crosby skate around the Joe with the Stanley Cup. I will never forget it.

Him for Olesz is a backwards move in my opinion. Olesz is not a natural goal scorer. Flip still has a lot of upside and I am with stevekrause on this one, if he was traded, it would likely be a trade that the Red Wings regretted later on. But I agree with this general idea that if a natural scoring threat came in return, go for it.
-
Which is why Zetterberg and Datsyuk should remain together with Homer. Flip should be the second line centre with say Franzen and Cleary on his wings.
-
How do you replace Flip with ONE player. Please enlighten me. A solid, young two way centreman that is locked up for the next few years. I agree with Flip having great trade value but that is no reason to get rid of him.
-
I agree, and from your research, Flip was one of if not the youngest of the bunch. I've said that Filppula is a lesser form of Zetterberg. I doubt he will one day be as good as Zetterberg. Frankly, he is a very solid two way SECOND line centreman that still has room for growth and improvement.
-
What is up with all of these proposals involving Flip. It would be stupid for the Wings to get rid of him!
-
I hear ya! :beerbuddy:
-
You sir, are on a roll today.
-
Maybe the Sharks would take him back?
-
May did what he was in the lineup to do. Later May.
-
Maltby in his prime did a lot of what Ott does, but never dropped the gloves.
-
He is one of those guys that you are supposed to hate...until he wears the jersey of your favourite team. Ott would work here but not for his salary. He was a major pain in the ass in the 2008 WCF, a positive pain in the ass (for the Stars).
-
How about Williams for Ott, straight up? They are both UFAs that make 1.5 mil. But seriously, I wouldn't mind if the Wings held onto Williams as he has looked alright since he came back but salary cap reasons might force him out.
-
Williams looked alright out there last night so that is a positive for his trade value...I suppose.

Abdelkader showing what he's learned from May

Someone will pick him up if Dallas does not re-sign him this summer. He is great at what he does. Personally, I would love him as a Red Wing if he came cheap.
