Good! Maybe it will help get some of the ridiculous contracts of the past back under control....

Which Sweater Do RWs Retire First - Feds or Ozzy?
Copenhagen848 replied to number9's topic in General
Another vote for "neither". -
Obviously Mclellan is not happy with the leadership on his team. I personally see nothing wrong with stripping the "leaders" of their letters in an attempt to motivate them and/or find others to replace them. I feel a quality of a good coach is to try new methods to motivate his players if the current method is not working, which it certainly is not. Good for him. I am glad this is happening however, because I HATE the Sharks....

March 26, 1997. The most exciting sporting event I've ever watched. I can't imagine a game ever topping that one for me. My wife got me the "Sweet Revenge" poster framed and signed by McCarty for me as a wedding present.

Last year I was very excited about being able to watch the Wings on HBO's 24/7. I was looking forward to seeing who the goofy guys were, the serious guys, etc, etc. I was extremely disappointed to see just how BORING today's Red Wings are. I didn't see any personality from the team...with the exception of a couple. You just don't see things like Yzerman giving his teammate a kiss on the "Kisscam" or Shanny motioning to the lady about hairy armpits while he's in the box, or Ozzie talking about how ripped he is in the pre-game. I enjoyed watching the Maple Leafs on 24/7 much more than the Wings...their guys had personality and it was entertaining. The Red Wings of today are boring, and I have to believe that plays a factor in F/A decision as well.

Leafs/Wings 24/7 Episode 3 Discussion (12/28)

I enjoyed the "Are you the bottle police" comment by Bert at the end of part two of their water bottle argument -
He made a comment about Bertuzzi eating nachos by the pool in Phoenix on a road trip a while back too, haha. Some stuff he says is pretty funny

My call is that if Helm ever returns to the NHL, he will be a shell of his former self. His game is 100% crash and bang intensity, and he is a long way from returning to that form, if ever. I personally think his back injury is/was "career ending" so to speak. I hope I'm wrong.
-
I was also going to say the Sharks. They've had the talent and chances, just missing one element. I personally believe the missing element is "non-douchebaggery"....
-
Class. Humble. Funny. Awesome. Red Wings.
-
No, no, and no. As already mentioned, they are great, but not legends.
-
If Helm is able to come back, I won't be surprised if he's never the player he used to be. I hope I'm wrong...

Couldn't agree more. See ya!!!

signed Red Wings Sign Mikael Samuelsson to 2-yr, $6m deal (w/full NTC)

I hated Sammy as much as the next guy, but I'm actually ok with this now...he's definitely an upgrade over Hudler (who I hate more), and for less than was offerered to Hudler. At least we know he'll shoot the damn puck! -
Peace out!!!

I'd love to see Doan on the Wings. It's time to sign a player who can play some hard-nosed hockey and can be a dick at times (when needed).
-
No doubt it will be Z. I also can see big Bert thrown in the "A" rotation.
-
Exactly....only another year older and with a head coach even more frustrated with what he's given to work with.
-
He's done. He definitely had a different look about him after the game. Can't really explain it, but I'm obviously not the only one who could see it.

I'm still a firm believer that had this game not happened the way it did, the Wings dont win the Cup that year. I too watched the game live from my living room. I was a junior in highschool. To this day, I have never watched a more exciting sporting event....ever. As mentioned, this was good 'ol hockey the way it used to be. Back in the day of Stevie Y and the Russian Five, Lapointe, Dmac in his prime, etc. Unfortunately the NHL will never be the same as it was back then, but at least we have memories of games like this one to bring us back! The '96-'97 Detroit Red Wings is, and probably always will be, my favorite sports team/season of all time, for obvious reasons. Man, I can still remember like it was yesterday, sitting there after Dmac's goal in OT, in complete amazement at what I had just witnessed....THE BEST GAME EVER.

Which team would piss you off the most if they won the cup?
Copenhagen848 replied to Red Wings Addict's topic in General
In order: Pittsburgh, San Jose, Chicago, Vancouver. Other than those teams, I don't care who wins it other than the Wings. I'd like to see New York take it if the Wings can't. -
In my opinion, the single largest piece of the puzzle that has been missing, for the past few years even, is passion. Plain and simple.

Very cool, thanks!

Yep, he did haha!
