Scoring is slightly better than last year, but definately on decline from a few years ago: 2009 (projected based on current scoring) - avg = 238 goals per team 2008 - avg = 228 goals per team 2007 - avg = 242 goals per team 2006 - avg = 253 goals per team I agree that I think there have been a lot of very high scoring games this year (8,9,10 goals) and perhaps that is inflating the overall goals per team stat? Probalby not though, I can't imagine it would have that much of an impact.

Doable, it's probably 40/60 right now. Kinda sad that there might only be 3, 100 pt scorers this year, basically the same as last year, even though last year there were only 2, but Crosby was on pace for 110pts. Anyone think we're slowing creeping back to low scoring times? Only 2 years ago, there were 7, 100pt scorers. We're also down to 1, 50 goal scorer....sad.

They wouldn't be able to unless they move other players.

Because he is not blowing everyone else out of the water like Green is. Green has 13 more points than Rafalski and has played 12-13 fewer games I think. It's easy to say Green isn't great defensively, which I agree with, but it will be hard for a voter to ignore his +24 (I hate +/- because I don't think it means much, but the votors do get influenced by it). His +24 is far better than pretty much everyone on the team. Ovechkin is +12 and there are a few others in the +10 to +15 range, but the majority are in single digits or minuses. Semin is +25, but I think that is a little inflated. Many of their players had huge +/- stats earlier in the year (I think Ovechkin was up over +25 at one point) and I think Semin missed a lot of games where those stats started to come back down to earth. For example, I think Semin is -3 over the past 15 games.

Shouldn't Gonchar be getting more credit for Pittsburgh's resu
toby91_ca replied to Drake_Marcus's topic in General
Gonchar is a big part of it, they really missed him on their powerplay and on their transition game. I've read some things that actually suggest that the players purposely played below their abilities in order to get rid of Terrien.....I don't believe that for a second, but interesting. -
If you pro rated Green's stats assuming he didn't miss the 14 games he did miss, he have: 37 goals, 86 points, +34

The reason you see so few teams with a winning record is because you have taken OT/SO losses and added to the loss column, but you have not added the wins to the win column, not sure that is fair.

Gotta believe that by former men and former women, he wasn't talking literally, as in people that have had sex changes, but talking about current and former players, both men and woman.....maybe you already thought that as well and were just being sarcastic though....

No way she could have been a top 6 NHL forward. I guess we'll probably never know. She was invited to attend the NYI training camp before, but she declined.

That's what I was thinking. Many seem to think the Q is a super high scoring league based on reputation. Like everything else, things change. The NHL was very high scoring in the 70's and 80's.....would you say the same now?

I've seen a lot of people mentioning this, but I'm not sure I agree. Normally, when you catch a good, full on, flush hit, you probably are not at a high risk of injury. I think the awkward hits, ones that don't catch guys full on, are the hits that are more dangerous.

He skated like a madman to get back in the play, yes, but then he stoped skating near the top of the circles....THEN...he went to Nash, you make it sound as if he jumped out of the box an immediately rushed to cover Nash, the open man. I'd be willing to bet that the vast majority of refs would have called a penalty here if they had the vantage point we do with this video. But you can feel free to disagree, I have no problem with that. FYI, I'm not good at finger painting, but I'll look into it.

Impressive, but not nearly as impressive as Lidstrom who has played in 1,325 regular season games of his team's 1,356 games during his carrer (good for 97.7%). There are many other better examples, but I went with the obvious local example. Of course, no one can beat Jarvis, who I don't think ever missed a game. I think he holds the record for consecutive games at 964, which happens to be his career games played as well, so I guess he played in 100% of his teams' games.

That is complete BS. As I already stated, any good check is going to include gliding. I'd like you to go try and hit someone from full out skating....no gliding. Let me know how that works out for you. If you want to hit a guy, you need to get your feet set first and get your balance, which you can't really do all that well without gliding. If you do not set your feet and glide before contact, there is a good chance that you are the one that ends up on the ice. The problem with the hit, which is why it's a charge, is that there did not appear to be any intention at all of playing a puck, he travelled a straight line from the blue line to the corner and never once changed direction, just directly in for the hit, even though the puck was moving around the wall. I'm not saying it's that big of a deal or that it's really dirty, but it is a charge, simple as that. If I were a CBJ player, I wouldn't like it though and I'd be going after the guy.
-
Forgot, why "that can't happen", meaning the Blue Jackets can't let Nash get hit like that. Maybe I'm reading the comments wrong though. Even if they were saying it was bad and shouldn't happen from a rules stand point, I still wouldn't have a big problem with it since they weren't yelling and screaming about it. That said, I do think they are pretty bad announcers based on the rare CBJ games I have watched, but I find a lot of announcers pretty bad.
-
It's not that he slowed down, he started to coast because that's what you do to set yourself up for a hit, it's pretty tough to hit a guy without coasting in to him.
-
Looked like a charge to me, he took a bee-line towards nash who was near the corner while he was out between the top of the circles and the blue line. The only argument is that he was racing towards Nash because that is where the puck was headed at the time, but it didn't look like he had any interest in the puck, especially since the puck was long gone.

Yes, that's right, it's a conspiracy for the Cdn teams, but we'll just explain the Wings away as an anomoly.... Anyway, I think the stats mean nothing seeing as you can have the same refs at home as you have on the road.

And earlier this season the Florida Panthers offered free tickets if you were able to show a Florida driver's license.

I played D one shift in my entire life, I ended up taking a slap shot off a stretched out arm in front of the net and broke my arm near my wrist.......no D for me.

Yzerman - I'm only slightly bigger at 6', about the same weight wise - shoot right - great stickhandler (probably better than Yzerman, not actually better, but you know what I mean) - scorer - defensively responsible - I was going to say except for the leadership part because I'm not a big talker, but neither was Yzerman, so I guess it fits

Zetterberg might have been able to sign for $7-8 million a year, but not for 12 years, the length of the contract is why the cap hit is $6 million, also, he's at a totally different point in his career. When he signed his previous contract after only completing 2 seasons in teh NHL, I think he was in a more comparable position to Kesler and yes, today, he looks underpaid at $2.65 million per year, but when he signed that contract, a 4 year, $10.7 million contract was hardly a discount.

When??
