Yes, but if we start throwing junior stats in there, discussions for a lot of players would change.
-
Sorry, I backed up my comment with stats to prove it, what's wrong with that? I didn't rip into the guy. Also, I found his comment curious as it seems like he just made it up. In terms of easily taking a regular shift on the 3rd line....NO CHANCE. He's a 6-8 minutes a game guy. If he wasn't a fighter, he wouldn't be in the league. He's not even a great fighter.
-
Even during his 86 games with Anahiem, he was a 4th liner at best.
-
Ummm, I'm sorry, but what are you talking about? Are you referring to the same Todd Fedoruk that I am thinking of? If he can't re-find his game, then he's still a pretty good enforcer? What game is it that he is trying to re-find? When has he ever been more than just an enforcer. I suppose he had a whopping 5 goals in his rookie year and he had 23 points a couple of years ago, but I still don't understand what you are getting at. Oh he can play the PK....really? I'm not sure anyone else in the NHL knows that. Have you actually watched the guy play? Out of interest, here is his PK time per game per year in his career: 00/01 - 0 seconds per game 01/02 - 3 seconds per game 02/03 - 0 seconds per game 03/04 - 1 second per game 05/06 - 1 second per game 06/07 - 2 seconds per game 07/08 - 2 seconds per game

So, there isn't that many ugly stats in Detroit right now, other than their record against Chicago, but one that is really ugly? Dom's save percentage = 0.859. That percentage is downright ugly, but what makes it worse is that it is DEAD LAST in the league amongst goalies who have played 5 games or more. There are 5 goalies in the leauge with a worse percentage, but they have played a combined 13 games (about 2.5 games each). The next worst is 0.879.

Just realized that the Canes currently have 6 guys with 20+ points...amazing.
-
Yeah, I agree, but age will catch up to him at some point, that is a guarantee. The question is when....and I think everyone is hoping that it isn't this year. They can keep all 3 on the roster as long as there is room, I doubt they would want to do that. I honestly don't know what they should do right now. My suggestion would be to play the hot hand in Osgood as much as possible. If that means that Dom doesn't play much at all, then so be it. I think most posters' concerns go well beyond this one game.
-
You're welcome, glad I was able to help you today. I guess I didn't realize everyone knew....since I'm assuming you have being sarcastic. I knew Dom as doing poorly, but I didn't realize he was dead last until I looked it up tonight.
-
Yes, other goalies are struggling as well....it doesn't make Hasek's struggles any less. Also, none of them have a s% as bad as Dom. We can hope that he'll turn it around, but he'll be 43 in a couple months....it is entirely possible that he just won't be able to turn it around.

Zetterberg and Crosby are still tied for 2nd, but Lecavalier moved into the lead last night. Check out the picture in this article. St. Louis looks like a little kid next to Vinny. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=222895&hubname=

THE POINT IS THIS: If you want to ignore what Datsyuk is on pace for, that's fine, but you shouldn't then turn around and talk about how Zetterberg is on pace for 130 points, it works both ways.
-
Please explain yourself
-
Because he was offerring too much money and was willing to accept the lease as is. Isn't it obvious?
-
Well, I'd have to question the conclusion that Forsberg is a lock / no brainer, but Lindros doesn't get in. Let me be clear, I could probably accept someone saying Lindros won't get in, but Forsberg will, but I can't understand separating them so much that Lindros doesn't get in and Forsberg is a lock. The only difference I see between them is that Forsberg has the cups. Is that enough to go from not getting in to being a lock? I definately shouldn't be.

So, I was just thinking. Those that are on Datsyuk's case heavily because he hasn't been scoring goals will probably look to last night and suggest that his goal was absolute garbage and doesn't really mean much. I mean, they would be right, the goal was garbage and should have never happened, but does anyone think that this just might be the kind of goal that Datsyuk really needed and maybe this will be the beginning of him breaking out of this little funk? I know some will say that he was never in a funk and he has been fine, but the fact is, he only had 2 goals in 17 games, so he was definately in a funk in terms of scoring goals.

I think I like Eva's list the best, but I'm still shaking my head at a couple things: 1 - I think about 7 people (pretty much everyone) say no to Recchi, but yes to Modano. I can't quite understand this since Recchi has slightly better stats. The only explanation I can think of is that Modano is American and Recchi is Canadian. 2 - Almost all of you said no to Neidermayer and half say yes to Blake. How does Blake deserve it more than Neidermayer? How does Neidermayer not get in: Awards and achievements 1990-91 - WHL - West First All-Star Team (Kamloops Blazers) 1990-91 - CHL - Scholastic Player of the Year (Canadian Major Junior) 1991-92 - WHL - West First All-Star Team (Kamloops Blazers) 1991-92 - Memorial Cup - Stafford Smythe Memorial Trophy (MVP) 1992-93 - NHL All-Rookie Team (Defenceman) 1994-95 - Stanley Cup (New Jersey Devils) 1997-98 - Played in NHL All-Star Game 1997-98 - NHL - Second All-Star Team (Defenceman) 1999-00 - Stanley Cup (New Jersey Devils) 2000-01 - Played in NHL All-Star Game 2002-03 - Stanley Cup (New Jersey Devils) 2003-04 - Played in NHL All-Star Game 2003-04 - NHL - First All-Star Team (Defenceman) 2003-04 - NHL - James Norris Memorial Trophy (Defenceman of the Year) 2006-07 - Nominated as Starter for NHL All-Star Game (but did not play) 2006-07 - NHL - Conn Smythe Trophy (Playoff MVP) 2006-07 - NHL - First All-Star Team (Defenceman) 2006-07 - Stanley Cup (Anaheim Ducks) International play Medal record Competitor for Canada Men's Ice Hockey Olympic Games Gold 2002 Salt Lake City Ice Hockey World Championships Gold 2004 Czech Republic Ice Hockey World Cup Gold 2004 World Cup of Hockey Ice Hockey Silver 1996 World Cup of Hockey Ice Hockey World Junior Championships Gold 1991 Canada Ice Hockey Played for Canada in: 1991 World Junior Championships (gold medal) 1992 World Junior Championships 1996 World Cup of Hockey (silver medal) 2002 Winter Olympics (gold medal) 2004 World Championships (gold medal) 2004 World Cup of Hockey (gold medal) Well, I think Shanny will get in easily simply because he has over 600 goals, but in terms of arguments against: - hasn't won a single individual award for his play - Is less than a point per game player.

The Pens DO NOT play an offensive style of game (Tampa does). The Pens would like to play and try to play a defensive style game, but they don't really play that either. Edit: In terms of Zetterberg being the best, or one of the best two-way players in the leauge, I would agree with that, but I have always had a bit of a problem with the way they award that trophy. It always goes to a guy that plays a great two-way way game and not the best defensive forward. Actually, if Zetterberg wins it this year, it would likely because his offensive game has improved and it would have nothing to do with his defensive play improving.
-
They were also outscored in those 3 games 15-1.
-
Are you serious?

Again, for those that still do not understand the voting process: Fans only vote for the starting lineup, so unless Osgood gets more votes than any other Western conference goalie, the number of votes he receives would be absolutely meaningless. If he finishes in 2nd in voting amongst goalies (Western conf.) this would mean absolutely nothing. If he deserves to get in based on his performance and isn't the top vote getter, then he will probably be selected to the team by Hockey Operations.
-
I didn't mean to get picky, I was just wondering why you thought Dom had a chance. In terms of your earlier comments, those selecting the names to go on the ballot wouldn't have been taking into account how players have performed this season (slection may even have occurred prior to the start of the season, I'm not sure). I don't think there is much of a chance at all of Ozzie getting voted in. Even if he was on the ballot, I doubt he would have much of a chance, I just don't think that many would vote for him, nothing to do with stats. I think someone like Luongo would get a lot of votes. In terms of Hasek, again, not sure how many votes he'd get, I just don't see him as a very popular goalie amongst the fans as a whole. I could be wrong, but that's my general sense. So combine that with the fact that he is not playing that well....
-
If it were only so easy to explain everything with stats.....but it is usually not that easy and definately not in this case. Even if I agreed with your approach to analyzing statistically as done above all the stats would show is that the 1998 team was best in terms of their play against the competition in that particular year. This analysis does nothing to show why the 1998 team is actually better than the 1997 team.
-
I didn't ask if you cared. You said you thought he would get voted in and I asked if you really thought that because I don't think Dom has even a remote chance of getting voted in at this point. In terms of coaches....they have no say.
-
You think Dom is going to get more votes than any other Western conference goaltender? The coach is irrelevant in terms of selecting the rosters.
-
I agree about 1996, I may lean towards that team instead of 2002. The 2002 team had a lot of HOFers, but the 1996 team had a lot of HOFers that were in their prime.
