    Niedermayer and Selanne

I think this is an incredibly difficult decision to make. Think about it. These guys have been playing hockey and dreaming about playing in the NHL pretty much every year of their life and now they are deciding whether they will walk away from it forever....it would take me a very long time to make that decision. For Niedermayer, I wonder if he is deferring because he is feeling out what it would feel like to not be playing anymore and see if he can deal with that. I think he has decided to retire, but hasn't made it official because he doesn't want to do it only to realize that he can't handle it and then come back and play.

    Flyers vs Canucks

Yeah, I don't really have a firm opinion on this one year, other than I think he deserves a lengthy suspension. By the way, he's expecting a suspension as well (see TSN article) From his scouting report at TSN

    Flyers vs Canucks

I don't know. I don't see that is being as bad as the Downie hit. Don't be quick to draw conclusions though, I think he deserves and will get a lengthy suspension. One of the key differences is intent. When I saw the play, it looked like he was trying to stop him to fight (he dropped his gloves almost instantly). I wonder if he stick got higher than intended. I don't think it matter if he really meant to get him in the head, it was brutal and there will be severe punishment, I just wonder if the intent to injure would be the same in this case.

Draper hopes to ink 3-year deal

Impossible, the minimum salaries for the next 3 years would be $475k, $500k and $500k. Also, we won't get the minimum. I think the Wings will either pay him more than he deserves or he'll accept slightly less than he deserves, not sure why I think that, I just do. I think he still has some left in the tank, but he certainly should not be signing for $2+ million.

NHL is killing hockey in Detroit

Toronto is highest, with an average price of $88 and St. Louis is lowest, with an average price of $22.

NHL is killing hockey in Detroit

Not nearly as expensive as Toronto.

    I Like the New Jerseys

I guess I'm the odd ball. I wear a hockey jersey when I am playing hockey, attending a game (sometimes) or occasionally when I am watching a big game at home.

NHL is killing hockey in Detroit

Well, the attendance is a little alarming right now, but after 2 games, definately not time to panic. They got 17,600 for their first game and less than 17,000 for the 2nd, so they are not at the 18,000 level. Those numbers are still decent, but the alarming thing is that if you check around the league, those teams that have had home openers so far, Detroit is tied with Nashville for lowest % capacity average at 86%. For the record, I don't think it has anything to do with the conference and who they are playing. They have been playinig this type of schedule for awhile now and attendance wasn't a problem until recently.

    I Like the New Jerseys

You wear a hockey jersey as an everyday piece of clothing?

question about the high sticking penalty

Actually, since your scenario is completely logical , the actual powerplay time (assuming no goals are scored) would be about 7 minutes, the first 6 minutes would be a 2 man advantage.
  12. While sirdrake's posts have been funny to read, I think it's gone overboard now. Can we just get it over with and ban the guy?

question about the high sticking penalty

The ref is not qualified then.

question about the high sticking penalty

Either you got a penalty for something else (tripping perhaps), or the ref is a complete idiot. In order to get a high sticking penalty, it needs to be above shoulder height.

    Who Am I?

I think it only happened once with him, when going from New York to Toronto.

    Who Am I?

I thought it was more recent as I think I heard this being discussed before, but will require more thought.....edit, actually, maybe only a quick thought....Paul Coffey? I haven't gone to check, but I think he left the Oilers, Pens, Wings and Flyers the years they went to the Finals.

    Who Am I?

What decade was the majority of his career played in?

    Who Am I?

You got a fact incorrect though. There are currently 39 players with 500 or more goals, soon to be 40. Not 37.

NHL re-alignment - North and South Conferences

Maybe not a bad idea, but I think travel costs for a league as a whole would increase significantly, which probably isn't a good idea. Also, why is Montreal in the West division?? I think Montreal is further East than pretty much every team in the NHL.

    Shoot out goal

Has there been a recent bout of insanity? Why on earth would a guy scoring a goal in the shootout be credited for it in his personal stats? Or a goalie giving up a goal. I could be wrong, but I have to think that the goalie is not credited for a goal against either, if they are, that is completely absurd. I don't think it should count for a team's goals for or against stat either, but it probably does.

    Power Play vs. 5 - 5 Play

Physicality is probably an area that Lidstrom lacks and it would probably make him that much better or at least more exciting ot watch, however, you gotta think that his style of play is what has kept him able to miss very few games in his career and has enabled him to continue to play at such a high level as he ages. If he was a much more physical defensemen, injuries probably would start catching up to him by now, which would diminish his other skills and at worst, he could be retired. So, when I think about it, I'll take his current style of play thanks, just ensure you have other bruisers on the blueline.

    Hockeytown is DEAD

In additon to Yzerman, here are a few other Canadians some Wings fan might recognize: - Sawchuk - Lindsay - Howe - Delvecchio - Abel Just to be clear, when they mention foreign players, they are probably referring to those foreign to North American, not the United States.

    Sens re-sign Dany Heatley

Well, none of that really makes a difference in terms of the cap going up or not. If revenues increase, the cap will go up, simple as that.

    Hockeytown is DEAD

You know, I never thought about that too much, I wonder how much of an impact that really has. If you look at Detroit's roster, they have 7 Canadians, 3 Americans and 12 Euros. If you look at the Ducks roster, they have 16 Canadians, 7 Americans and 5 Euros (greater than 23 roster limit, so I am not sure who is actually on roster or not, but in looking at it, there are a few of those Euros that would be coming off).
