The thing is, the Joe was pretty empty for much of last year and the playoffs in comparison to prior years. The regular season showed sellouts every night because the tickets were sold, but the seats were not full. I'm not sure there were any less people actually at the game last night than at times last year, the main difference is that the seats were not sold, so the official attendence shows up as the lower number this year compared to last.

Yes, but if you look at a map, how can you have Toronto and Buffalo in a different division? I know it used to be that way, but you need to take logistics into account. Buffalo is the closest city to Toronto, Ottawa is the next closest. It would be difficult to consider having Ottawa and Montreal in a separate division for example. I think when you are aligning the league, you have to group the closest teams together first and then look at outliers and fit them in as best you can.

Only caught bits and pieces of the game and missed this hit from behind. What kind of a hit was it? Must have been into the boards since hitting from behind in open ice is fine.

What do you mean by "play out of your own division?" I wouldn't mind experimenting with a smaller lineup. I like the idea of star players getting more ice time. Not everyone can handle it though (which maybe what separates the best from the rest though). In terms of realignment, I wouldn't mind seeing it, but in your divisions, I'm not sure how you could have Buffalo and Ottawa in a different division than Toronto.

You need to change things up a little or goalies will start figuring you out. I woudn't get too worked up about him not scoring on shootouts, as a general rule, more often than not, the goalie is going to stop you. Think about baseball....the best hitters in the game really only get a hit 30% of the time. If you get a hit 1 out of every 3 chances at bat, you are doing better than almost everyone else.

Why do you say the cap is going up next year? With the Canadian dollar now worth more than the US dollar, maybe it will, but I'm not 100% confident that the cap will increase next year. With respect to Heatley potentially being underpaid, I don't think so. There are a few guys in the league that are overpaid, but with this new contract, I don't think Heatley is underpaid. From what I can tell, there are only 3 players making more money than him: Lidstrom, Crosby and Richards. Yes, can't argue too much for 2 of those guys making more, but Richards? Richards is definately overpaid at $7.8 million, but that doesn't make Heatley underpaid at $7.5 million.

Also, the Leafs would make even more money if they went deep into the playoffs, so I think they are, to an extent, making an effort to ice a strong team. You never know, Antropov might turn out to be good this year. He is on pace for 164 goals this year.

I find that EXTREMELY hard to believe. As much as I dislike Perry, he's still a pretty good player. Who is your cousin's husband by the way? If he is 10 times better than Perry, must be a pretty special player. I remember when Perry was playing against Crosby in the memorial cup a few years ago, there were some on this board that were saying that Perry was a better player than Crosby.

I really wish I was in Detroit right about now. I may make a trip this year, I'm in the Toronto area so it really isn't that far. Actually, I'm in Burlington now, so that's already 30-45 minutes closer. Alarming thing though, I just went on to ticketmaster and was able to get 16 seats in a row.....in a row!! I didn't order them, but they were available to me.

It's because the topic starter didn't actually post anything beyond starting the thread. His/her question was in the title of the thread. For the record, it was their first post on this site (joined today).

I guess that is true. Living in Canada, I can get a huge selection of hockey highlights from many different channels. I think the only times I have watched the channel is on a rare occasion I watch an old classic game, or something like that (if I'm even thinking of the right channel).

For those that already have access to this station, such as myself, are you really fussed with it? To be honest, I very rarely watch the channel.

I have to disagree with you and lean towards you not getting the actual point here. The speed limit thing maybe wasnt' the greatest example from a techincal point of view because they are both wrong, but in terms of head shots, hitting something with their head down with a good clean check is within the rules, while jumping into someone is quite different. In terms of not being in line with past punishments......people need to really, really get over this. Past punishments need to be ignored, the NHL needs to start setting new precedents here and maybe that's what they are starting (i.e. will not accept these types of hits anymore), hopefully they keep up with the firm punishment. In terms of not providing proper warning, I think this is where you may be lacking the full story. All teams and every player in the league were debriefed at the start of preseason and were warned about these types of hits and that the NHL was going to come down hard on those that may deliver such a hit. They were shown many videos, etc. explaining the type of hits they were talking about. So, to me, there was quite a clear warning provided.

The Ranger jersey/logo is okay, but I personally have it as 6th out of the Original 6.

The first game of what season?

Knew if from previous research.

Then why all the comparison between the two which seems to be painting a picture as to why you think Datsyuk would make a better leader? Also, what about this comment from you: And when asked if Dats is more deserving than Z or Drapes, you responded: Sorry for the confusion, but comments like that made be believe that you thought Dats was the better leader.
-
Longest current consecutive game streak would be Maltby. Most PIM for a player still active would be Shanahan I think. If you mean still active with the Wings, I'm not sure, could be Maltby again, or Draper.

I'm not sure you are getting it. Being the best scorer isn't important in terms of being a leader. Being the best defender is not important in terms of being a leader. Let me put it to you this way: Assume this was possible....you have a player, he is the most gifted offensive player ever seen, his defensive skills are better than anyone that has ever played the game, he is the most physical player in history....starting to get the idea, basically, the guy is has the best set of skills on the planet. Having all that doesn't mean that he would be your best choice for captain or alternate. Aside, in terms of one guy not being able to win a game with great defense, but one guy can win a game with great offense, that is not true at all. Neither can do it alone, you need the rest of your team. If one player is great defensively, but the rest are not, doesn't matter how good he is. If one guy is great offensively, but the rest of the team is not....doesn't matter how good he is, the other team will just focus on him and shut him down.

There's not THAT MANY...it would end up costing us about $1 million each

Ahhh, they simply just missed the word "former", not a big deal. If they had of written "Detroit Red Wings defenseman...", people may have been wondering why he was there, they were trying to establish his ties to the team and forgot a word...no biggie.

That sucks....by 9pm, they'll probably be halfway through the 3rd.
