He was looking for the hit from about his own blueline, so I guess I exaggerated, more like 125 feet then. Firstly, can I see some videos of these shoulder to head hits in the NFL, that is normal and doesn't result in disiplinary action? Since it happens weekly, there must be lots of video. If you don't come up with anything, I'll just assuming you were making up this garbarge. Secondly, if hockey players want to go around hiting guys in the chest with their heads, is anyone going to have too much of a problem with it? They'll probably hurt themselves more than anything. Also, what does leading with your head into someone's chest have to do with anything? Thirdly, the difference between the head protection worn in the NFL and that worn in the NHL is vast.

Wether it was an elbow or shoulder is completely irrelevant. He basically lined up the hit from 150 feet away and was trying to hurt the guy. He deserved what he got.

Are these really the new scoresheets or just summarized versions for the pre-season? These ones don't have pp time, sh time, etc.

Drake looks freakin old!

It may appear as though they are sending a clear message, but I won't conclude on that until they actual take action when it really matters (i.e. suspending a player who won't be playing anyway doesn't send that much of a message if you ask me).

What??? 4.5 years hasn't been enough time to recover from the accident....so let's give him 5.5 years, then he'll be good as new?
-
Good, now lets see if the NHL sticks with this type of firm punishment. They do need to take a stance that this type of thing will no longer be tolerated. They need to start setting new precedents. Honestly though, I do not take much from this, it was a very easy suspension to hand out. It doesn't really hurt the Flyers any as the guy probably wasn't going to be making the team this year anyway.

I actually just watched it on TSN's highlights. By the way people are reacting, I expected a lot better.
-
I wonder if Crosby's $8.7 million per deal puts a bit of an artificial ceiling on salaries for the short term.
-
YIKES!!...to everything you said.

I think you have already gone overboard by suggesting someone has a lot of potential in this league because of a shootout goal he scored, but that's just me. I think he has a lot of potential, but for completely different reasons.
-
That's a possibility....is he the right answer? Then again, he technically didn't set an NHL record in his first year, he only TIED a record...which still stands, so it probably isn't him.
-
He's only played for one team....and I do not believe he holds any records
-
My first guess was going to be Brian Leetch....but that's not right...really only satisfies one of the parameters.
-
15 shutouts is not a record...the record is 22.
-
What do you mean? Are you saying people don't even want to go to the games for free, or am I missing the point. And are you talking about Detroit?
-
If he gets 1 or 2 games, it will just further prove how much of a joke the NHL is when is comes to this type of thing.
-
Who are you thinking his idol is?
-
Someone already answered it....Bobby Hull, wore #9 and retired on the same team and same year as his idol, Gordie Howe.
-
True, but my issue is that the face shouldn't be so high for a meaningless game with non 100% NHL rosters. But, I guess it's supply and demand.
-
Someone here at the office is offering up their tickets to this game. They are selling at face value of $182 a ticket (section 115, row 16). I thought that was a pretty steep price for a freakin exhibition game.

Depends on your point of view. With respect to matters that I have no exposure to, I wouldn't pretend to have an opinion. Just because Lidstrom is a star player in the NHL, I wouldn't, by default, conclude that his knowledge of the game is greater than mine. Not saying it isn't, but I wouldn't default there "just because of who he is." I have played for many years at very high levels and these days I play recreationally and spend a lot of time watching the NHL and other levels of hockey. I think watching games gives you a different perspective than playing and you may be able to pick up things that you wouldn't if you are in the middle of the action. Again, my only conclusion is that I wouldn't simply bow down and accept someone else's opinion over mine just because of who they are.
-
I didn't say my opinion mattered more either. My point was that I wouldn't simply blindly accept someone's opinion just because who they were, I would listen to their views and then form my own opinion, which may or may not agree with someone like Lidstrom.
-
While I would certainly respect Lidstrom's opinions, I would not place his opinion as more valid than mine or anyone else's on this board.
