I don't know about that. You can write-off last year due to injury, but in the two previous years, he was a 70pt per year player (pro-rated for missed games in 03/04). Penner has not come close to putting up 70pts yet. Anahiem has committed $4 million to Bert for the next 2 years, the Oilers have committed $4.25 million to Penner for the next 5 years. To be honest, I'm not sure who is taking the bigger risk here, but since Bert is only for 2 years, I think that is the less risky of the two in terms of getting your money's worth.

I don't think either of Smyth or Phaneuf are UFAs until 2012.
-
Another situation where a team overpaid for a guy (Roy), but Buffalo really couldn't afford to lose him after the offseason they have had so far.
-
I think the guy who gave Penner $4 million+ was the drunk (Lowe). Big difference here is that Penner was given a contract that grossly overpays (i.e. the reason Burke was so upset with Lowe, not necessarily upset than an offer was made). Kinda funny that the two sides in the Cammalleri case were so far off. Mike wanted $6 million a year?

If Yzerman actually did leave to take a position with the Leafs, I doubt anyone within the Detroit organization would share your thoughts.

1. Wil Kronwall reach #1/#2 Dman status within his current contract (next 5 years)? Depends who else is on the team. 2. Will Grigorenko prove to be a capable top 6 forward this season? Unlikely this year, but possible. 3. Will Hudler score 20+ goals this season? 50/50 4. Will Filppula have a 45pt season? Doubtful 5. Will Lilja get in more than 5 fights? No chance (don't think he's ever had more than 2 in a year) 6. Will Rafalski have a career offensive year? No 7. Who will be the alternate captains when Zetterberg gets the C? Reserve comment until Zetterberg gets the C, who knows who will even be on the roster at that point in time. 8. Does Cleary turn out to be a one hit wonder, or does he repeat with another 20+ goal showing? He'll be a good player, but hitting 20 goals again is no lock. 9. What one forward, that is an 08 UFA as of now, would you like to see the Wings get at the deadline? Haven't thought about it to be honest (why would they have to be an 08 UFA though?) 10. Of the players whose contracts expire in either 08 or 09, which ONE top 6 winger and ONE top 4 Dman (both in the 3M-5M range) and which ONE bottom six player (less than 2M) would you like to see the Red Wings sign? As above.

That will never happen, that's why he has been trying to buy an existing team.

I prefer "Christos Kostas Tselios"

To be honest, I think the main reason he turned the job down earlier is due to lack of ability to make any actual decisions. Basically he would have been hired, but would have been told that he can't do anything, Mr. Ferguson cannot be fired, etc., etc. I understand Scotty has denied recent discussions, but I do not believe that for a second. That said, this doesn't mean he is going to take the job, but if he is a offered a job that gives him full control over hockey operations (ability to replace the GM, etc.), I think he would be at least interested.

I've read of them being referred to the same thing as well, but other reference material that provides different data for each. Regardless, you cannot take an individual and say his injury is "x" and this other person had injury "x" and was out for this period of time, therefore, that's how long it will take. The time required to recover is quite personal. For example, when reading about prolapsed discs, it suggested that in most cases, the symptoms subside over several weeks (not months).
-
I haven't seen anything about Zetterberg having a herniated disc. Everything I have seen or read suggests back spasms or prolapsed disc.

The cap hit to the Rags for Jagr is only $4.9 million, but they are still over the cap currently as far as I can tell. With 12 forwards, 8 defensemen and 2 goalies, they are at about $52 million. They probably want to have more than 12 forwards on the roster, but they could probably also carrying less than 8 defensemen. They do have a bit of work left to get under the cap.
-
At times, I find myself embarassed at the number of homers on this board (no pun intended).
-
Coaching position yes, GM position, no. Lou is entering his 20th season as GM.
-
Gomez had 13 goals and 60pts in 72 games last year (good enough for $7+ million I guess ). Drury has never scored 70pts in a season. They lost an 80pt per year guy in Nylander. Did you just say that the Rangers have "solid defense"? I think they are actually over the cap currently, I calculate $51.7 million for 10 forward, 7 defensemen and 2 goalies. They have some work to do to fill out the roster and cut salaries. They haven't signed Avery yet either.

Drake does not average anywhere close to 3 hits a game. He has average about 1 hit per game the last 2 years.
-
Chris Neil, Chad Kilger, Trent Hunter, etc.
-
Why do people keep saying this?
-
Yes it does, for the 05/06 and 06/07 seasons, but not for the seasons prior to that.
-
If you go to the stats section, there is a box for "report view" when selecting year, team, position, etc. Under there, you can select rtss player stats.
-
Before you start critizing others, you should probably check your numbers. Sergei was reportedly offered a 5 year, $50 million contract earlier that year, but I think the dollar amounts and length of contract fell by the end of the year. Also, he signed with the Ducks for $8 million, not $6 million.
-
I didn't think that was an official stat that was tracked anymore. Though you can still find it. To be honest, I wouldn't call any stats you are able to find as being very accurate. Depends on who is keeping the stats. Some buildings you will find this stat given out very easily, not so much at others. Some give more to the home team than the visiting team, etc. It is probably the most inaccurate stat out there.

He played 70 games last year (a lot for a goalie, top 5 in the league) and he played 53 games his rookie season (about average, he was 15th in the league).
-
The Pens were prepared to give him 10 years. 5 years should be a pretty long term deal in this environment (cap and all, uncertainty of where it will be in the future, etc.), but for whatever reason, there have been a lot of 6,7 and 8 year contracts thrown out there.
-
I generally agree with your post in that I do not believe the Rangers will be a dominating force (their defense is terrible at the moment), but I would think Henrik has at least 2 solid years under his belt, considering he was nominated for the Vezina in each of the last 2 years.
