Probably because he's looking for more money than he is worth. He has a huge shot from the point, which makes him great for your powerplay, but other than that, he doesn't give you a whole lot.
-
You really think so?
-
I think he plans on living with Mario for one more year. Though, he already bought a house of his own in Nova Scotia.
-
Crosby is $8.7, not $9, he signed a 5 year, $43.5 million deal (not $45 million). Assuming everyone else gets what you suggest, that would leave them with $21.6 million to sign 18 more guys, assuming the cap doesn't move at all (likely to move at least a little bit, but not much). This would be about $1.2 million per player. I think that is quite doable. However, even if Crosby played for free, I doubt all of Crosby, Malkin, Staal and Fleury stick together too far into the future.
-
Yeah, would result in them going from 258 goals last year to 340 this year. Also has 12 guys having career years in terms of goals. Looks like a pretty good year
-
He probably would have gotten offers from several other teams for $10.06 million per year, he accepted a contract that pays him $8.6 million or close to $1.5 million less. I think that is a fairly healthy discount (15%).
-
About a million or so below fair value, still, I bet a lot of Pens fans were hoping for a little more of a discount and longer term....though 5 years is pretty good, knocks at least 1 year off UFA status. Amount still to be confirmed. He has probably already been making more than that already if you consider his NHL salary (including bonuses) for the first couple years was about $4 million, you have to imagine he's pulling in at least $5 million from Reebok, Gatorade, etc.
-
He only signed a one year deal last year, so even if he didn't retire, he'd be an UFA and need to sign with the Wings first before being considered for the roster. That said, as already mentioned, he officially retired on October 11, 2006.

Like I said....just for fun.
-
He's useless (pretty much) and will be 39 in Feb.

Just for fun: Hudler - 763 minutes in playing time - 25pts Lindros - 718 minutes in playing time - 26pts

This is my opinion, which may not be true, but I think they run the pizza business like a business....to make money, they run the Wings like a hobby, to WIN. Sometimes the team makes money, sometimes it doesn't. Closer to the truth may be just that on occasion they would have spent more on salaries hoping to build a winning team, but since they were losing early in the playoffs, the team was losing money those years.
-
Well, I think there are 2 main problems with significant empty seats: 1. There is A LOT of revenues to be made from concessions and if the butts are not in the seats, they are not spending any money on concessions. 2. Empty, but sold, seats now may be a sign that those seats may not be renewed in the future. I'm not sure how much the actual Wings have been profiting. Maybe in the last couple years they have been turning a profit due to lower salaries, but a few years ago, when they had a significant payroll, if they didn't go really deep into the playoffs, they were losing money.

I don't understand where you are getting $4 million by the end of his contract, this is what he will be paid in cash: yr. 1 - $10 million yr. 2 - $8 million yr. 3 - $6.4 million yr. 4 - $6.4 million yr. 5 - $6.4 million yr. 6 - $6.4 million yr. 7 - $6.4 million

Hmmmm.......Lang has 18 goals in 87 playoff games (0.206 gpg) and Yashin has 11 goals in 48 playoff games (0.229 gpg). Help me understand how Lang is the superior playoff performer.
-
To be fair, I think their current payroll is only around $30 million (cap hit) for next year so far.

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07186/799391-61.stm On the surface, it doesn't seem too difficult, but I think the article sums up the issue. Looks like Crosby is interested in keeping the team mostly intact down the road and to do so with him receiving a max salary would be that much more difficult. However, if he accepts less than max, how much of a backlash from the PA will he receive? I'm sure accepting less would be fine, but you would have to draw the line somwhere (can't take too much less). I say somewhere around $9 million.
-
You say that now, but if you were in that position and were worth $5 million a year, no way would you accept $500k or $475k or whatever the minimum is this year. When I was younger, I always thought to myself that I would be happy making $X thousand per year. Now that I have surpassed that amount (significantly), I couild never imagine earning less than I do now. It's all relative though, $X thousand is not worth the same this year as it was several years ago.
-
He's only getting older, he'll turn 40 part way through the season and he looks to be getting slower. Don't think I'd spend $2 million on him.
-
While I am no expert on the subject, I'm pretty sure from a legal perspective, the PA couldn't do a thing, but most players wouldn't want to piss everyone else off.
-
You only had to reply to "any" thread, it didn't have to be in the spam blocker thread. I'm wondering if that is the problem was well, though, was that really a month ago?
-
I'm pretty sure he or his agent is already hearing from the PA. Crosby is considered the best player in the league right now and while Iginla and Thornton are right there in terms of playing ability, I think Crosby's value to a team goes beyond playing ability, he's definately the most marketable guy right now. There would be nothing wrong with taking a discount to stay with the home team, you just can't take too much of a discount as in Crosby's case, it would almost be like setting a ceiling for the rest of the players, at least for now.
