Well, he actually does wear 19 because of Yzerman, but not because Yzerman was his favourite player. Yzerman was his brother's favourite player and his brother told him that he should wear 19. Thornton's favourite team was the Leafs and his favourite player was Wayner.
-
Wrong......his was Wayne Gretzky.
-
Didn't we already talk about this?
-
Hate the idea....too tired to elaborate.
-
I believe Balsillie's shares in RIM alone are worth more than $2 billion.
-
Yzerman has NEVER won the Lady Byng......

Would you be willing to bet your life that there are no other legal loopholes?
-
Yeah, he now knows how Steve Smith feels (his words). I think I may rank him as the best defensive defenseman in the playoffs. He's pretty good offensively and moving the puck as well.
-
This is the general understanding, but I wouldn't be betting my house on that. You gotta believe they are confident they can win a legal battle either way.
-
Well, you would be talking about a major re-alignment then because moving one team out of the Western conference is not solved by moving 2 more.
-
What about expansion fees? Because of Balsillie's impending purchase, fees for Las Vegas and Kansas City just went from about $80 million to $150-160 million (speculated). He's way overpaying for Nashville as well (probably in excess of double the fair market value). If the BoG does not approve the sale, I will seriously start to question their intelligence.

My most significant issue with the list was Souray. $6.75 million for Souray? Surely this was a missprint.

All I know is that the IHL folded in 2001 and has not existed since.

I started playing hockey about 25 years ago (age of 5), took a few years off (age 19-22), but have been playing ever since. I took up ball hockey a few years ago as well, it is pretty tough, it is played in an actual hockey rink, just without the ice and you have to run instead of skate (a lot of running). It gets really tough in the summer...real hot. Most rinks are not built with air conditioning.

Are you serious??? To be honest, I do not think either team made a mistake, both players have been great and both are pretty comparable. Hossa huge for Ottawa in the playoffs? Yes, but honestly, both of Heatley's playoff seasons in Ottawa have been statistically better than any season Hossa ever had in Ottawa. Do you realize that Heatley tied for the scoring lead in this year's playoffs with 22pts in 20 games (Hossa had 1 assist). Last year he had 12pts in 10 games. 06/07 - Heately - 50g, 105pts, Hossa - 43g, 100pts 05/06 - Heately - 50g, 103pts, Hossa - 39g, 92pts

Why would Niedermayer retire? He's nominated for the Norris, just won the Conne Smythe and is only 33 years old.
-
He has been in the league for 7 years now and has never scored 20 goals. Say what you want about pro-rating goals over games played, but that's also part of the problem, he's always injured.

? They are not even in the same conference. Anahiem was a cup favourite from the first week of the season this year.
-
Agreed. I was using $7 million as the current cap hit I found from a site, your $6.941 is probably just the more accurate number.
-
My calculations show $19.2 million as the difference. I think the cap hit would have been $7 million per year * 4 years = $28 million, less the new amounts of $2.2 million per year (not sure I agree with that yet) *4 years = $8.8 million.
-
I was referring to the CBA (page 207) example.
-
I don't mean to nag, but I am not sure I agree. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think if you applied your simple approach to the CBA example, you would take $4 million buyout over 4 years = cap hit of $1 million per year for next 4 years, when in fact, the cap hit would be $1.5 million per year over the next 4 years (average of $1 million, $3 million, $1 million and $1 million).
-
I don't know, they did save themselves about $10 million in cash + time value since it is being paid over a longer period. They also saved themselves close to $20 million in cap space over the next 4 years. Yes, they will be hit with $2.2 million for the 4 subsequent years, but that's not too bad.
-
Have a look at the examples in the CBA, it is more complicated. When I look at your Yashin example, where he gets $7.6, $7.6, $6.3 and $4.8, I think the cap hits after buyout would actually be $1.6, $1.6, $2.8, $4.3 and then $2.2 for the next 4 years (total of $19.1, which is greater than the $17.6 buyout). Have a look at illustration #2 on page 207 of the CBA.
