Mike Fisher looks like a pretty damn good deal at the $1.5 million Ottawa is paying him, but he's still under contract next year. Gotta imagine the cost will be higher at the end of next year.

I doubt Yashin would sign for $2.2 million less than market value simply because he is receiving buyout money.
-
It is not quite that simple, but in Yashin's contract, it does work out to a cap hit of $2.2 million each year of the next 8 years. There are 3 or 4 examples of how this works in the CBA. If the contract was structured in a way that the amounts owing to a player were different each year (ie. $2 million first year, $3 million second year, $4 million fourth year), the cap hit after buyout would be impacted as you need to calculate the buyout savings, etc. It is complicated enough that it is difficult to explain here, but in Yashin's case, I believe he is owed $6.6 million each of the next four years, which would be the same as the cap hit each year. Since the buyout is $17.6 million, the savings are $4.4 million per year over the next four years (since they only need to pay $2.2 million vs. the previous $6.6 million). You would then take the original cap hit of $6.6 million, deduct the savings of $4.4 million to get $2.2 million. So the cap hit would be $2.2 million over the 4 years left on the SPC and then you would have an additional $2.2 million for 4 additional years. I think it is a coincidence that it works out to the same $2.2 million for the full 8 years, I think in other circumstances it would be different.

who should Detroit target the most in free agency?

Ummm, that was 9 and 10 years ago. As someone already mentioned, how many Wings play with Kovalchuk and Hossa? -
Some are predicting that the Canadian dollar will be worth more than the US dollar by the end of the year Currently at 0.95 I think.

To be accurate it was a lockout, not strike and here are a few things you need to understand: - Revenues have increased beyond where they were before the lockout (I think) - You say average team salary was around $45 million, which I am not sure if that is true, but assuming it is, next year's average (even with a cap of $52 million) would be less than $45 million. Some teams were spending $70-80 million before the lockout. - Most important fact, before the lockout player salaries represented 75+% of revenues, now it is only 54%.

More likely to get injured, yes, but I would much rather get hit in the face with a stick than to get hit in the face with a razor sharp skate blade....what do you think will do more damage?
-
I think the problem with reports like this is that it makes people think that the cap WILL BE $52 million, just because it is written in print. Some have questionned the math, as will I, doesn't seem to work. I'll hold off on the cap number until the league actually sets it. I'm not going but what some writer thinks. If I had to guess, I'm still thinking somewhere around $48 million. Funny thing, even with a cap of $52 million, if every team had a payroll at the cap (I know, won't come close to happening), and league revenues are $2.4 billion as noted above, the players will be giving back $264 million to the owners at the end of the year ($300-400,000 per player).

anyone know the exact amount of contracts we got ?

AHL players would not count towards the cap hit (if they do not end up on teh NHL roster at any point during the year), but they would coutn against the total number of players a team is allowed to have under contract. That said, I haven't heard of only being allowed to sign 50 players to contract. I haven't tried to determine whether that is correct or not, but I haven't heard that before. Well, looks like it is true....should have checked first I guess. From CBA: quote](a) Not more than 50 Players signed to an SPC and not less than 24 Players and 3 goalkeepers under an SPC. Age 18 and age 19 Players who were returned to Juniors, and who have not played 11 NHL Games in one season, shall be exempt from inclusion in the 50 Player limit. Looks like junior age players still playing junior wouldn't count against that limit though. You are also limit to having rights to only 90 players at any given time. -
Not sure what you are getting at.....

This doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Agreed with both posts. The crap going on here the last little while is getting embarassing.
-
I certainly hope this is a joke. 20+ teams out of the 30 pay at least one goalie $2 million a year or more.

Souray is the equivalent of Gonchar, except maybe not quite as good offensively and maybe worse defensively. Some exaggeration there, but you get the point.
-
NO. Detroit lost to Anahiem, they were not the better team....period.
-
Well, not having Hamilton in the same division as Toronto and Buffalo would make zero sense.
-
No kidding. If Giggy can be had for $2 million, sign him now.

Has Perry always been a diver, or is it just this game? I've seen him take 2 or 3 dives so far.
-
I think they should be calling far more penalties than they are. They're back to how it used to be....don't call clutching and grabbing, etc.
-
Why do you say he doesn't get a lot of respect around the league?
-
I assume you mean older than the person the trophy has been named after. In any event, Mark Messier is a little more than a year older than Chelios.....so, if it didn't already happen, it still hasn't.

My personal opinion is that an offer sheet for someone else's RFA is never worth it. All you are accomplishing is driving up the price.

He acquired "Killer" (a nickname given to Gilmour by Brian Sutter, then a St. Louis teammate, because his name was similar to convicted killer Gary Gilmore)

Game 1 SCF: Ottawa Senators at Anaheim Ducks

Getzlaf is extremely skilled, he's a great player. I agree with you though, he seems to cross check a lot. I thought it was funny when he cross checked Comrie about 5 times before finally getting called for it and then he was completely shocked that he was called for it. I hated the look on his face.
