I think Bettman said he expects revenues to increase by 6.5-7%, but I don't think he mentioned anything about the cap, I think the cap numbers were mentioned by the person writing the article, though, I'm not sure how the math works. $44 million +7% = $47 million.

I've heard $47-48 million, but obviously nothing is official or Bettman would have had no problem telling MacLean.

To be honest, I'm not sure it really makes as much of difference as I thought. The sources I am looking at may not be 100% accurate, but for the 06/07 season, the vast majority of the team payrolls were in the $38-39 million range (including Detroit - though I thought they were closer to the cap, which leads me to question the accuracy). In fact, only 4 teams in the entire league were under $37 million: - EDM - $36.2 million - STL - $35.6 million - PIT - $27.8 million - WSH - $26.9 million With PIT and WSH, you know those numbers will be going up dramatically when guys like Ovechkin and Crosby get new contracts.

To be fair, it was not at all obvious in your original post that it was a joke.

I'm still livid about it not starting until today. I should have been spending my Saturday night watching game 1 of the SCF. I guess the one good thing is that all games will be at 8pm, even those in Anahiem (5pm their time).

Am I missing something? Not sure I understand why. Isn't that in the ballpark of the current jerseys?

Howard is 23 I believe, which is still relatively young for a goaltender. Even though most elite goalies (Roy, Brodeur, Luongo, etc.) don't break into the league until 20 or 21 and in a lot of cases, younger goalies play because of the team they are coming into. Detroit is not in the situation where they need to bring in a young goalie. There have been several goalies they have been brought in too early and it hasn't worked out well. Fluery is an example of a goalie that has started very young and is just now starting to gain consistency (number 1 draft pick). His situation is a little different in that the Pens were desperate for a goalie. Lastly, not sure why you suggest his is not good enough to warm the bench in Detroit. Why do you want your young prospect goalie warming the bench? How is he going to develop that way? Let him play significant minutes in the AHL. All that said, they are probably getting close to the point that they need to give him a chance at the NHL level. Everyone is skeptical about rookie goalies, but you have to give them a shot eventually.

Not sure I would leave it all to luck. The series I watched, the Wings were outplayed in games 1,2 and 6, so not sure how you can say the Wings outplayed Anahiem pretty badly in most every game, that simply isn't true.

He's one of the best in the league. Because he is so sound positionally, his saves are not always spectacular, because they don't have to be. Also, because of his positional play, the pucks seem to just hit him, which makes people complain about his equipment even more (get over it).

Could they have been better? Sure. But where they the reason they lost? No. The team did not produce enough offense and that is probably the "main" reason they did not advance, but both Datsyuk and Zetterberg had respectable offensive numbers in the playoffs (not dominant, but respectable), so no way they should be to blame here. Actually, I do not think there really should be any blame placed at all. Why is it that fingers have to be pointed every year that the team doesn't win the cup?? There is only 1 team out of 30 that wins every year. I understand if you are eliminated in the 1st round after finishing very high in the regular season, but they made it to the WCF....top 4 in the league, that is not out of balance with where they finished in the regular season.

I thought it was going to be between $47-48 million, so $47.5 makes sense.

This story would have been touching enough had I read it a year ago, but now that I have a 9 month old daughter, reading stuff like this has a much greater impact on me.

"develope are" ?? Just kidding....but I couldn't resist. Anyway, I do not think anyone will be able to answer this question other than by speculation. I certainly have not heard about any such thing happening down the road, but it isn't impossible.

Sorry, but I think you are way off base here.

Who is your favorite all time player, AND your favorite active player?

Didn't he play his last NHL game 10+ years before you were born? -

Ummm...Schnieder shoots left as well, or am I missunderstanding you? Fav all-time Wing - Fedorov Fav all-time Non-Wing - Messier Fav current Wing - Zetterberg Fav current Non-Wing - Crosby -
Maybe there is something wrong with your computer.

Okay, I watched, and maybe it's just me, but I have no idea what you are talking about. His hands looked the same during the entire interview.
-
Okay....take that back.

There are no good reasons. Could he really have something against the ENTIRE team not to shake any of the players' hands? Even if he did and even if every single Ducks player is the scum of the Earth, shaking their hands it was a true sportsman and classy player would do.

If I am the Ottawa Senators, I am pissed. Why does there need to be 4 days between the end of this series and the Finals? 6 days if Anahiem wins tonight. Also, why start on Monday? If the series only goes 4 or 5 games, you only have one Saturday game? I think the ideal would be to start on Saturday (one day off after this series) and then you would guarantee at least 2 games being played on Saturdays in the final.
-
Actually, 4th cup in 11 years, though, it would only be 10 NHL seasons (damn lockout)

I'm not sure of the technicalities, but you can assure yourself that if the game you purchased tickets for does not end up being played, you will get your money back.

He, along with Henrik Tallinder and Kristian Huselius were accused of rape in early 2005, but were subsequently cleared of any charges.
