I have about as much of a chance as Hasek

As discussed, there is no automatic winner like the Art Ross, but it is basically based on having a lot of points with low penalty minutes. The definition is something like sportsmanship + high level of play.
-
Huh? You think people are waiting unitl they find out where they finish in the standings? That makes no sense to me.
-
Yikes.....there's something wrong with my mind. For some reason I still had him playing for the Flyers.

The only guy I can think of that has won the cup with more than two teams is Claude Lemieux, who won it with three (Montreal, Colorado and New Jersey). Who hasn't missed the playoffs ever? Not sure, but just thinking about current players: - Lidstrom - Holmstrom (will be 10 years this year) - Draper - Chelios (he has missed the playoffs twice, but had to put him here as it is pretty amazing he's been in the playoffs 21 times. - Redden (never missed, this will be the 10th year, but he didn't play one year due to injury) - Phillips (never missed, but this will be only his 9th year) - Forsberg (will miss for the first time in his career this year) - Alfredsson (will be in for the 10th year in a row, but missed in his rookie year) - Hejduk (will miss for the first time in 8 years this year) I am sure there are plenty more current and former players, but that would be too much research, I'm only going by guys that come to mind. I haven't even thought about those that have never made it. Luongo will be there the first time in his career this year though.

What do you mean by expansion era? After all 30 teams joined? There are several that have never missed the playoffs (a few on that list that will miss for the first time this year though).

For some reason, I thought I read somewhere that the two teams would use a shootout to decide the seeding, but now I cannot find it anywhere, everywhere seems to end at the GF/GA season stat. Maybe I imagined it. I don't think it matters as I don't think you'd ever get to that point. The Wings and Ducks may be close and it may be possible, but I think the stars would really have to align for this to actually happen. Not only would the Wings need to go 1-1-0 and the Ducks go 3-0-0, each team would need to have the same goal differential in those games. If I had to decide, I would look at GF/GA for the season series between the teams, in which case, the Ducks would win.

If you take a common sense view, all signs point to back injury.

I know the 1987 Flyers lost 11 games, but they didn't win the cup.

On the penalty issue, he still takes quite a few. He leads the league in minor penalties. Pretty healthy lead as well.

I used to run the pool in the office, but passed that responsibility on to someone else. We do a really simple one in which you simply pick 10 forwards, 5 defensemen and a goalie. There are no drafts, theorectically, two people could have the exact picks (never really happens). You keep those players for the entire playoffs. For forwards and defensemen it is basically each goal and assist they record, you get a point in your totals. For goalies, I think they get 1 or 2 pts for a win and an extra point or two if they get a shutout. So, you really need to pick who you think is going to be around in the playoffs awhile to pile up the points, but if you pick all guys from one or two teams, for example, you could potentially be toast after the first round. Spread your picks over too many teams and you are likely toast as well.
-
I "will be" in one, but in terms of picks, it all depends on the rules of the pool.

Lalonde actually has a better career gpg stat.

At 19 years old? I doubt it. He had a great rookie year and has improved this year, why will he not continue to improve like almost every other player in the history of the game? That said, unless the game changes, no way he gets 200pts.
-
Gotta disagree here. Although Dryden only played 7 years, all were with Montreal and during that time, he won 6 Cups, 5 Vezinas, 1 Conne Smythe and the Calder. Plante won 7 Vezinas with Montreal, 1 Hart and 6 Cups.

Ftorek was replaced by Robinson back in the 1999/00 season, when they went on to win the cup. Pat Burns was the coach the whole 2002/03 season and they won the cup.

Maybe Toronto should re-locate to Hopkinsville.
-
Your arguments could have had an ounce of merit if Nick's career only started last year, but since it didn't..... Detroit wasn't playing Chicago and Columbus 8 times a year prior to the lockout.
-
Doubtful, I don't think many teams spend a lot of time "focusing" on defensemen during the normal run of a game. Where they would focus a lot on Pronger for example would be on the powerplay where teams would try to do their best in keeping him from getting a clear shot off from the point.
-
They play on the same team, but they are not a defensive pairing.

I didn't really think this was a hockey knowledge type of question, I thought it was more common sense. I equate this to something similar to "If you punch your teammate in the face, is it a penalty?" Maybe I am the one out in left field here, I just didn't get why there would even need to be a debate.
