Why would there be a suspension? It didn't seem all that dirty of a play to me.
-
Some merit there, but I'm guessing that he wouldn't want to sign before July 1st. To be honest, I wouldn't be totally shocked if he went back to Edmonton, but the real reason I am thinking he won't is the fact that he was traded in the first place....i.e. if they thought they could get him signed, they never would have traded him. Here's a real consipiracy theory out of left field for you though: Let's say Ryan and Kevin agreed that the Oilers season was going nowhere and they would trade Smyth to get additional players and prospects for the team and Ryan will then sign back with the team in the offseason. I am the first to laugh at conspiracy theories anyway, but the big reason keeping me from believing this is that I cannot believe Ryan Smyth would ever think there was no chance of his team getting to the playoffs.

Well, I think my concern is the reason he is out (i.e. post concussion syndrome). This scares me as being a career issue. Not to say he will need to retire anytime soon, but with concussions, you never know and it doesn't look good right now. They could likely get the dollars off the books for salary cap purposes (not technically off, but..), however, they still need to pay out all that dough, whether he plays or not. Yeah, but they could have signed him in the offseason anyway and not have given up anyone in a trade.

Just for the sake of accuracy, he's 4th in wins and tied for 15th in sv%.

Luongo is the last goalie I'd want to be facing, regardless of the team in front of him. That said, he does have zero playoff experience....gotta start somewhere though.

Good News: Hockey Night In Canada to stay on CBC
toby91_ca replied to WingedWheelin06's topic in General
I may be wrong, but I believe that is what the first poster was suggesting....ie. it happened. ESPN begain airing Monday Night Football last year, ending ABC's 36 year run. However, both networks share common ownership. -
Are you sure about that? I didn't think Centre Ice aired games in the playoffs, but maybe I just didn't care to check since I got the games on other channels anyway (I am in Toronto). Maybe the Centre Ice service is different in Canada come playoff time due to CBC/TSN?

I'll hold off being too excited yet. A morning skate is quite different than a full practise. I am assuming he still hasn't taken part in any full contact drills with the team.

Good News: Hockey Night In Canada to stay on CBC

Watching a game on CBC is totally different than any other channel. TSN is okay, but there is just something different about a CBC broadcast. -
Good stat, but not a record. Do you think they really keep a record of most points in 19 games? Even if they did, I'm sure Lemieux would have done much better than that since he scored 282pts in 70 games his last year of junior, which would have averaged 77pts for each 19 game interval.

I remember Daigle being very highly touted, but I honestly do not remember why so high. Before Crosby came into the NHL, everyone had comments that he could be the next Daigle, but I never really got that as Crosby's junior career was much more dominant than Daigle. Even in this thread, some mention Daigle junior records. Does he really have any records?? He never lead the league in scoring, so I am not sure what records he would hold, not saying he doesn't have any. Just a quick comparison: Daigle: 17 years old - 8th in scoring with 110pts (leader had 138 and total of 10 guys with 100+ pts) 18 years old - 3rd in scoring with 137pts (leader had 148 and total of 12 guys with 100+pts) Crosby: 16 years old - 1st in scoring with 135pts (2nd had 117 and total of 2 guys with 100+ pts) 17 years old - 1st in scoring with 168pts (2nd had 116 and total of 4 guys with 100+pts) I don't even think Crosby really set any records.....what records did Daigle set?

Skating at 100 mph must have set some kind of a record right?

I know this means nothing, but you can add me to a list that think the Wings cup drought would be 50+ years now if Fedorov never played for the team.
-
The fans in Pittsburgh boo Jagr.
-
I used to think Brodeur had the Vezina locked up this year, but I'm starting to think it's Luongo's to lose now.

White - Fedorov Red - Yzerman

Yes, but I don't think he plays hockey. http://www.laton.at/artists/radius.html

Even you can't honestly believe that. Sure, he got "touched" but if something like that causes you to fall like that, then do you really have the adequate balance to be a professional athlete?
-
I don't think he blamed the loss on Hasek, he simply called him out on this one play. I am not sure why he did that, maybe he tried to deal with it before and it hadn't worked and now he is trying this angle, who knows. I think Goalies in general tend to embelish more than the average player, but Hasek does take the cake in that area. I would be lying if I said his antics didn't frustrate me at times.

Who should the wings sign to longterm deals ?
toby91_ca replied to zetterbergfuturemvp's topic in General
Hold on now, let's take Filppula for example, we are talking about a guy who has less than 10 goals and less than 10 assists and we are saying it is a joke of you think you will be able to get him so cheap at $2 million per year??? -
I remember the save, but from this video, you can't even tell if the shot was going way wide or not....looks that way from the angle. When I saw it live, I think there was a different angle that showed the save better and showed that it was clearly going towards the net, but I can't remember.

I think the only thing against Bossy is lack of Hart trophies and scoring titles, but you are right, he should be there. Lack of longevity hasn't hurt Orr in terms of where he sits on the all time list and Bossy played more games than him. Bossy retired the year he scored 38 goals in 63 games. The guy could put the puck in the net, no doubt. He also put up significant point totals, where several guys high on the all time goal scoring list haven't really put up a lot of high point totals (Andreychuk, Shanahan, Gartner, Ciccarelli)
-
Yeah, I wouldn't be fussed if he was #3 there, but there is no way Modano should be ahead of him.....which he isn't in the poll, so I don't have issue with it. I would have voted for Sakic though, I don't think Brodeur should have that much of a lead.

They are all deserving of recognition, but not necessarily top 10 recognition. I don't think there should be a debate as to whether Bourque and Messier are there, they are locks, along with others (Gretzky, Lemieux, etc.). You can debate who fills the remaining spots, but not on these guys. My opinion I suppose, but hard to argue if you ask me.
