Yeah, but is that record even relevant in today's game? I think it goes beyond the game changing such that more or less goals are being scored. This is a record that is literally impossible to break under today's circumstances.
-
Doesn't Hainsworth have 94 shutouts? Well, Terry Sawchuk currently has the shutout record, so.....
-
It was actually 11 of the 30 that voted against it and I'm not sure how Bettman has control over the rule that requires at least 2/3, it's not like he can simply decide to make changes, or not make changes. I, by no means am a fan of Bettman, but I think he takes more of the blame for everything wrong with the game than he deserves.
-
Is anyone aware of his status? When is he supposed to be able to play?
-
Agreed. They are certainly a dangerous team, but at the same time, it wouldn't be a surprise if they go down early, or even miss the playoffs. Either way, the team is improving.
-
Well, that's really his job. He's not representing the entire league, he's representing the owners. Doing something that everyone thinks is best for the league that goes against what the owners' think is best, would not be a wise decision for someone in his position.
-
It would not be good for the NHLPA for a player to accept less than he is worth. It is okay for a guy to accept marginally less to stay with his team, but accepting significantly less than your market value is normally frowned upon, it drives everyone else's salaries down. With respect to Lidstrom, there probably would have been a team who would offer him the most, but I am not sure his market value really should have been there. You need to consider the type of contract signed, most importantly, length. For example, there was a risk that being another year old this year, Lidstrom may begin to decline and may not be worth the amount he signed for. The following year, he's another year older, etc. The older you are, generally your average yearly salary will decrease if you are signing a longer term contract.

I am not sure if I would say that Sakic played in waaaaaaaaayyyyy fewer games. He's played in 162 games, which is significant. Yzerman played in 34 more games, or 196 games. For the record, Sakic has 12 more goals and only 7 fewer pts. He has the far better offensive stats.
-
Yeah, I wouldn't have had a problem regardless of who they picked, but if it was my decision, I would have picked Fedoorv.
-
Hull and Hasek would have been tied for a distant 4th in my opinion. If I was picking, Fedorov would have been the guy. Yzerman also said that playoff year was the best he's ever seen Fedorov play, which says a lot.

Even if he didn't jump, which he clearly did, Lupul still got a face full of elbow. That said, Kronwall hits normally are not dirty. My biggest beef with Kronwall has been that he needs to pick his spots better. From what I have seen, he goes out of his way (out of position) for big hits. This wasn't necessarily the case here, but has been in the past.

Could you be referring to the assistant coach down in Phoenix? Ulfie?
-
Umm....isn't he talking about the Mike Legg goal? I personally like the similar play by Crosby, was more smooth if you ask me. Either way, I thought we were talking NHL.
-
I would be willing to bet the majority of referees out there would not have called a penalty on that hit and the ones in this game didn't either. If the rule is that you can't hit a guy if he no longer has the puck, fine, but that's not the rule. I have seen far more hits that came much later than that, which were also judged non-penalties. If you ask me, if the results were different (i.e. Drury gets knocked down and gets right back up) no one would be talking about it.
-
The players involved should not be considered when determining whether a hit is clean or not. Also, Neil is not an enforcer. I would be willing to be that most enforcers are not playing around 14 minutes a night.
-
For the record, I'd absoultely love to have Neil on the Wings. Can I ask a question? How on earth do you come up with a comment that Drury took 3 strides and then got hit????? Is this based on watching the play, or what you envision in your own mind? Drury didn't take even one stride, he released the puck, admired the shot as he "glided" and got hit. If you watch the clock, he was hit less than half a second after releasing the puck. Pretty much...obviously within reason, but if you are in the high slot area (open ice), you better be aware of your surroundings and not focused on looking at the puck. By the way, here is a hit where Kariya does take 2-3 steps. This hit was deemed perfectly clean as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYqNXH35IXY

The hit was perfectly clean, there shouldn't even be a discussion on it.

It seems like it wasn't too long ago that he was 1st in goals and 2nd in overall scoring (was he only 5 pts behind Crosby or so? Can't rememember). Now he has dropped to a tie for 4th in goals and 10th in scoring. He's 23 points behind Crosby now. Granted, the #2 guy is 14 points behind Crosby and Ovechkin's drop in the list has a lot to do with how hot Lecavalier and St. Louis have been, but he's also been very quiet the last 8-10 games.

I missed the November 20th goal. He's only assisted on one of Crosby's goals since the January 2nd game and that was on January 20th, on the powerplay. If I had to guess on the number of games that Crosby and Malkin actually played on the same line for the full game, I'd put it between 10-15. Zubrus is not a 3rd liner, he's a pretty good player. Actually, a lot of Pens fans are suggested that they trade for him to put on Crosby's line.
-
There is no link, go check all the box scores. I said that he has assisted on 2 ES goals since October 28th. That adds to the 2 that he assisted on up to that point in time.
-
You might want to actually read the articles, one is from October and here are excerpts from the other: And when Therrien began playing them together in the third period, after a 3-1 lead had degenerated into a 3-3 stalemate, the pair really got airborne. Malkin will be back between Jordan Staal and Michel Ouellet, and Crosby with Mark Recchi and Ryan Malone tonight when the Penguins visit the New Jersey Devils. Crosby and Malkin were regular linemates briefly this season but eventually separated in the interest of creating a more balanced attack. The two never practice on the same line.
-
No, I meant total goals. Between October 28th and now, Malkin has assisted on 2 even strength Crosby goals.
-
Yeah, I have heard some go as far as to pick Luongo as the MVP, not just a finalist.
-
At this point, it's between Crosby and Brodeur. Any other potential finalist is a distant 3rd.
-
Your eyes are deceiving you then. I have watched almost all of their games. Also, if you don't believe that, had they been playing on the same line all year, you would think that Malkin would have assisted on more than just 6 of Crosby's 26 goals.
