If that is the actual order, how is it possible to have Naslund ahead of Sundin?
-
Actually, Zetterberg was not on the list (I don't think). I only caught the last 5 or 6, but at the end I think they said Zetterberg isn't on this list now, but probably will be in the future. Also, it is not Boris, it's Borje (Boris??). It's Alfredsson, but you were close enough on that one. Another guy on the list was Kent Nilsson.
-
I disagree on both fronts.
-
I think you are referring to my post, which you obviously did not read properly. I said Smyth does the same type of thing, but brings more. I did not say that Smyth is better in front of the net.
-
Ryan Smyth does a bit of the same, but brings more.
-
I think you need to re-read his list and look at the first name on his list. That being said, there is no way all of those guys would fall into an "untouchables" list.

He definately hasn't proven that he's worth $15 million over 5 years, but I think Management is hedging their bets that he'll develop into a star and be worth more than the $3 million per year they have him locked up for. It's a gamble, but you need to gamble sometimes.

Yeah, earlier in the year, 2 minutes, 1 second.

To be honest, as a Wings fan, it has been a long time since I really cared to much about many games they have been able to win during the season. I spend some time watching how some of the players do throughout the year, but consistent with the last several years, this team will be in the playoffs, that's all the matters from the regular season point of view. My focus will be on how they do in the playoffs and how certain players perform.

Let's not be confused, I am by no means disputing his greatness, he is my favourite player on the team and has a lot of potential. I was simply looking at a replay of the goal and I didn't think what happened was as described.

Is there a better way to sort teams in the NHL standings?

riiiiiigggghhht.... I'm done....give up -
I'm thinking his comments about the poke check relate to after he gets control again. Maybe I am looking at a different video with a different angle. You cannot see what I see from the right side of the rink. edit: I just had another look at it and slowed it down as much as I could and it actually looks like the puck hits the side of the net on the way around, causing him to lose control.
-
Have a look at the replay, unless my eyes are not working properly today, it is very clear that he loses control of the puck.
-
As I said earlier today, great goal, but I don't see this magical aspect that you are seeing. I think I see where you might be looking at the play thinking he pushes the puck forward to himself as he came around to avoid Cujo's stick and then roofs it, but he actually looses control of the puck as he's coming around. If you look at the replay, if he didn't lose control, it looks like he would have been simply trying the wrap around, a play, as you put it, is all even Gretzky would have tried.

I agree, I do not care, but I already tried that argument and it didn't get across effectively. Are you that intellectually challenged? You simply dismissed my reasoning and went back and said..."but my winning percentage is higher", which I already explained to be meaningless since there is no guarantee you will maintain the same winning percentage in the future. -

You completely missed my point. If my team is 23-30 and your team is 10-0, in my opinion, there is no reason your team should be ahead of mine in the standings. There is no guarantee you will win anymore games, while my team is already guaranteed of having at least 23 wins. It comes down to pretty much being as simple as that. If baseball wants to assume you will continue winning at the same rate, that is their prerogative. -

Who cares? This isn't baseball, why would the NHL want to follow how baseball presents their standings? If you look at the year end standings, regardless of how you arrange the teams, winning percentage, points, etc., they will always be in the same order.....who cares what the order is throughout the year? The points system allows for discussions about games in hand. Yes, we're 4 points down, but we have 3 games in hand. If you don't win those 3 games, you are still 4 points down, if you do, you move ahead. Putting the standings together assuming you are going to win future games based on previous games you have won doesn't necessarily make sense either. -
Congrats to Zetterberg on his 100th career goal and I agre that he isn't just your average hockey player (but no one thought that anyway) and I agree it was a great goal, but I cannot agree with your description of it. He didn't skate around the back of the net and use great patience to wait for Cujo to sweep at it, he actually lost control of the puck for a second coming around, that's why he didn't get the shot off as quick.

How about Tampa, Atlanta, or potentially even Pittsburgh.

I could be wrong on these stats, but I think there are only 3 players ever to do so. Orr did it once, Mario did it once and Gretzky did it a whole bunch of times. However, I think the last time it was done was about 16 years ago. Crosby is on pace for 96 or so I think. I think he has a chance, but he'll likely come up short. I wonder if he gets really close and then you look at the 3 games he's missed so far, which could have made the difference.
-
Do you really believe that?
-
I am not sure what point you are trying to make. Do people really say he has been doing it himself? No one in the history of the game has ever done anything themselves. However, I think it is pretty impressive that he is on pace for close to 100 assists without having anywhere near a sniper to play with. He plays with Recchi and Malone. Malone is useless and Recchi has been able to chip in, but it's no mystery who is benefiting more by playing with the other. The only other two forwards that I think would help Crosby's stats if he played with them is Malkin and Staal. I think about 12-13 of his assists come from Malkin's goals and if I were to guess, I'd say about 2-3 come from Staal goals (he is very, very rarely on the ice with Staal). He has some offensive help on the PP with Gonchar and Whitney, but that's the extent of the help. If you were to ask me, no one has ever put up close to the assist totals he is on pace for with less help than he has had.

How was it that he behaved in the aftermath?

What is a game winning goal supposed to tell us?
toby91_ca replied to WingsFan2007's topic in General
Very good question. A lot of people look at game winning goal stats to show who is "clutch" when it counts, but you are right, your team could win 11-0, is the guy who scored the first goal a real clutch performer? Apart from not addressing the question, I am not sure that is even true. For example, your team could score the first 4 goals of the game and then the other team scores the last 3. The game winning goal is the 4th goal scored by your team, but at the time it was scored, it put your team up 4-0, it wasn't breaking a tie. -
Shanahan has been bad recently (most will admit that), but he has shown that he can produce in the playoffs, he has done it before. Datsyuk has not shown that yet.
