Do you have a link to what the HHOF is saying? edit: nm, I checked, I think what you were looking at was a list that had only Gretzky and Lemieux on it, but the list was just the top 10 most assists per season. Gretzky holds all 10 positions with Lemieux tied for 9th. Gretzky holds the 10th position twice and Orr's 102 assists would fall into 11th position.

Armstrong and Malkin have barely played with him at all this year. Recchi has been on his line for most of the year and Malone has started to become the next regular (though I am not sure I'd agree with that). I wouldn't mind seeing Staal get a chance to play on that line. Other than that, there have been a few guys on and off that line. A few of Recchi's goals have been the result of Crosby banking it in off his feet.
-
So, I understand these guys are identical twins, but their statistical similarities are quite astounding. This year, Daniel has 55 points, Henrik has 53 points. Last year Daniel had 71 points, Henrik had 75 points. In their careers, Deniel has played 450 games and has 277 points, Henrik has played 454 games and has 274 points. I suppose you could say that they should have similar totals since they play on the same line (not sure if it as been that way their whole career, but it probably has), however, it doesn't really work that way.

I am guessing you mean "siblings" and not "offspring."

Is that comment somewhat trying to diminish what he's accomplished? I'll tell you this, he certainly has a lot less to work with than Mario or Orr had when they had 100 assists. Each of them had 3 others scoring more than 100pts. Orr wasn't even the leading scorer, Espo had 76 goals and 152 pts that year. After looking at some of Gretzky's years, I am blown away yet again. While almost all of his years in getting more than 100 assists in a season (I think he did it 11 years in a row, mind numbing), I think the first year he did it is the most impressive. He had over 100 assists in a year where the next leading scorer on the team had 32 goals and 75 points. I think a lot of people try to tear Wayne's records down due to the high scoring nature of the 80s, but a lot of guys played in that era and no one came close to him. In a lot of years, he was outscoring his next closest teammate by 100pts. Sure, some of his teammates had over 100pts, but he had over 200pts.
-
Have a look at what he did the last quarter of last year, I think it was his best part of the year. If what you say is true, the HHOF records and rankings are incorrect. Bobby Orr had 102 assists in 1970-71.

There will be similar questions we all heard about Detroit last year. Is Nashville's record inflated by playing so many games against those 3 teams? Honestly though, losing to the Pens right now is not a surprise, I think the Pens are the hottest team in the league right now. It's been awhile since they have lost in regulation.

21-13 is a pretty good record.

I eat there all the time, my office is in the Wellington Tower of BCE Place (i.e. building that Marche and the HOF are in). Only a block away from the ACC.

Montreal, Chicago and Detroit could retire if they wanted... Why on God's green earth is Draper even discussed in this topic?
-
Did I miss something, or is it now mandatory that we discuss this every few weeks? I am sure if you wanted to search the site, you would find about 15-20 threads that discuss this issue (okay, maybe I am underestimating...)

I think people can only dream of him being another #91. If he were, I suspect most wouldn't be too bothered about forking over $7 million.
-
Why? While I have no reason to think he would do a great job, I have no reason to think he'd do a terrible job either. My only comment would be "does he really have any experience in this area?"
-
Oh my.... Datsyuk hasn't scored in the playoffs in awhile do to: - officiating - indifferent play by the whole team - coaching mistakes Gotta hand it to ya, there's some excuses I haven't seen yet.
-
So, would you say that Hull is ahead of Fedorov on Detroit's greatest players of all time? Obviously, he is referring to Dionne, who had far more goals and points with LA than Gretzky, though, I'm not sure I've ever seen him wearing a visor.
-
No, this does not put the point across better. He was trying to make the point that he scores more per second than most on the team, if you give him more ice time, maybe his goal totals would be up near the top. I think this is somewhat subjective, but not as subjective as your comparison based on shots. You can't simply look at goal totals based on shooting percentage if he were to shoot as much as Zetterberg for example. Who's to say he is good enough to get himself in the position to be able to get that many shots on net? Maybe he doesn't shoot unless he thinks he has a higher chance of scoring, vs. just throwing it on net every chance you get.
-
That's exactly what I did and my conclusion was....I could do similar things at that age and I was nowhere near the best player around. Maybe he is a very special talent, but I just do not think you can come to that conclusion based on the shootout moves he displayed. Did he even score on half of those?
-
Probably because he isn't. He has some good moves, but there are a ton of guys out there his age that can do the same and better.
-
If that is true, then I would think the Wings would be a long way away from ever winning a cup again. Not because I think Datsyuk can't get it done in the playoffs, but because I think it would just be extremely poor management, that is not how you run a team. You can't overpay players and expect to stay competitive.
-
I have seen the $7 million number thrown around a few times. Is that what Datsyuk is really looking for? If so, any documentation to back that up? Ignoring playoffs, how does Datsyuk's regular season warrant him a contract anywhere near $7 million?? Since when do point per game players deserve $7 million?

Ummm.....going from one person to two is only a 100% increase, but....point taken

That's just poor logic. -

33.....I know you said "about 34" so close enough. But doesn't the fact that he is under 38 eliminate him from the Wings being interested in trading for him? Just kidding. That being said, I don't think the Wings have any use for him. While I cannot stand the guy, I can admit that he is an impressive hockey player, but he is just too injury prone and while he can still play at a high level, he's not the same player as he used to be. -

So what is the definition of "star player"? Is Lapointe supposed to be in addition to that star player? He definately doesn't fit my definition of star player. -
You might want to look at the thread a little lower on the list.....lots of Crosby dicussion there....though, last I checked, it was a little out of control.
