How do you work out the translation factor? If you think Datsyuk would have had 30 pts in 50 games, are you assuming his KHL teammate, Gusev, would have 84 points in the NHL?
-
Wouldn't turn my nose up at 40-50 points, but I don't think that is very likely either.
-
Agreed, but not only will he not be the same as he was when he left, the player that left wasn't the same as what we were used to earlier in his career either. Decline had been setting in for some time and that's why I wasn't too pissed about losing him that year, but still didn't like the way he left. If I'm honest, I didn't have much emotion to it, just had those thoughts because of how vilified Fedorov was and he left as an UFA.
-
No, I get it, just try to put some logic into it. I wouldn't mind taking him back with the right circumstances (i.e. 1 year, low cap hit). But even then, do I care about cap hit? I don't think the Wings are close to contenders yet, so overpaying a guy doesn't really hurt. I must say, I'm not a fan of it though, he decided to leave with time left on his deal to play somewhere else.....then feels like coming back later? Why would I want to take him back? I'm just happy this isn't something happening in the prime of his career, feelings and discussions would be quite different. Not sure how a contract with one year left on the deal ends if you don't end up playing that one year. I'm sure Arizona has some sort of rights to Datsyuk, if he wanted to come back to the NHL, I'm assuming he wouldn't be coming back as an UFA
-
Yeah, it's definitely not even in the discussion for suspension, or at least shouldn't be....but it is such a ****** move, but that's what he's known for, that's what agitators do.
-
Not sure why that would be scary? Highly doubtful he comes back to the NHL and if he does, hard to believe he'd be much of an impact player.
-
Not sure how this year is more "refreshing" because Champion will not have won the cup in at least 8 years. Last year, Washington won it's 1st cup in Franchise history.....against a team in it's first year in the league. I get the year before, PIT won for 2nd year in a row, but the year before that, they hadn't won in 7 years and in both years, their opponents would have been first time winners.
-
The league also apologized to Vegas for the officiating of game 7.
-
I tuned in late in the 3rd period as I saw it was tied....certainly have let everything go since then
-
Guessing the huddle with the linesmen and refs was to discuss whether he shot it from inside the blue line or not (he was clearly inside the blue line). Conversation probably went something like "I think he was inside the blue line, but it's close, don't want to call a penalty in OT"
-
Here's the facts: 1. They thought he crossed checked him in the face and then saw blood and injury, that's why he got 5 min 2. It wasn't even a hard cross check, it was more of a shove with the stick...across the chest, nowhere near the head...he lost balance and then got caught up with another SJ player and fell on his head....skate came near the head as well, haven't seen a good replay to see if he got caught with that. 3. If you take every referee on the planet and give them the benefit of replay, not a single one calls a 5 min major there. 4. Vegas has every right to complain about the call, but they should never have been in that position in the first place and have no one to blame but themselves. They had a 3-0 lead, even if the penalty kill could have kept it to 2 goals against there....which is still a crappy PK...they would have been in good shape.
-
The other comment is that this game shouldn't even have happened.....why did Vegas let this get to a game 7?
-
I think the only thing worse than the call was the subsequent PK. It's funny....I saw a comment somewhere along the lines of "Is it the refs fault Vegas couldn't kill a penalty?" - huh? Ummm....no....but....
-
I get it, you can make the argument a penalty is a penalty....but it really isn't...which is frustrating. That's not the point here though. Your comment "maybe it should have been 2 instead of 5" - can't agree with that, there is no "maybe", there is zero argument for a 5 min major there, zero. I'm livid about the call and result thereafter....can't imagine how angry I'd be right now if I was a Vegas fan. I'm tempted to search around the web to find a Vegas fan board and see if people are losing their minds.
-
My first reaction is that it was the worst call I've ever seen in my life (in NHL). But if I thought about it, perhaps I've seen some other real bad ones, so let's just leave it as one of the worst calls ever. You could easily make the argument it wasn't even a penalty! It was more of a push with the stick, just after the draw than an actual cross check. Is it a penalty? Yes. Does that play happen several times during the game and not get called? Yes. So, if it was a 2 min penalty, I'd be arguing if I was a Vegas fan simply because of everything else they let go. For it to be a 5 min major / game misconduct is simply disgusting. Add to all that.....the call absolutely lost the game for Vegas. Vegas was leading 3-0 with 10 min to go in the game. Almost impossible SJ scores 3 goals in the final 10 min without that call.
-
BS...Rask had absolutely no chance at stopping the puck, any contact was meaningless. Call on the ice was good goal, so no chance that gets overturned....if call on the ice was interference it probably would have stood though...not sure if you can challenge that or not. the Bruins goal was offside pretty clearly from what I can see...but maybe not clear enough...another one of those, keep call on ice unless it’s obviously wrong.

Most people are calling it a huge upset, but that just goes to show how little respect the NYI have been given. They were the higher seed coming into the series, why is it an upset that they win? Because of some of the names on the team they were playing against? I think the reason most think it was an upset is because a lot felt PIT just coasted through the regular season and would flip the switch come playoffs...didn't happen. I think it's a shocker that they were swept, but not surprised NYI won, could have gone either way in my mind. The huge upset was TB....might be historical.

That was McLennan's last few seconds in the NHL. -
Who will score more goals to end the season, Larkin or AA?
toby91_ca replied to kickazz's topic in General
Yes, understand what you are saying, but the thread is really about goal scoring....I know that's not what this particular part was about. If you look at the greatest goal scorers, I suspect most of them are very streaky goal scorers....just the nature of it. -

80% is probably a bit much to ask....not sure about most consistent scorers, Crosby is up there I would think in that category, but I simply checked Kucherov for this year, for obvious reasons....he's only scored in 75% of his games played....not to say "only", I think 75% is probably pretty good....just pointing out 80% is an aggressive target. -
Gustav Nyquist traded to Sharks for 2019 Second Round pick and 2020 3rd round conditional pick.
toby91_ca replied to kickazz's topic in General
Not sure about that. Can go the other way sometimes as well. If you are a decent player on a bad team, you are probably the go to offensive guy, getting all the opportunities (ice time, PP time, etc.). If you go to a good team, you may get the chance to play with better players now and get more scoring chances that way, but you may also fall down on the hierarchy list and not get the ice time, PP time, etc. anymore. Very small sample size, but you already see some of this with San Jose, his PPG was 0.79 with DET this year, it's 0.46 with SJ -

Agreed, but I think expectations were potentially higher for him when his first real start with the Wings was 28 goals and 48 points in 57 games as a 24 year old. He hasn't grown from there at all....he's gone downhill. -

Ottawa is doing too well as sucking though for the Wings to finish lower I think.
