    Atlanta Thrashers move to Winnipeg

Not sure there is an issue here, they'll turn their attention immediately to naming the team now that they have worked through the acquisition. The team will be named in relatively short order and the governors meeting to approve happens before the draft, so that's a non-issue. I've "heard" that through various sources as well, but I honestly don't think they have spent time on determining a name and I doubt it will end up being the Manitoba Moose. I really think it will be the Winnipeg....something.

    Atlanta Thrashers move to Winnipeg

Has anything heard any discussions on the MTS centre? I have heard great things about it in terms of being busy, hosting concerts, etc. However, I thin it only seats just above 15,000 for hockey...that doesn't sound like enough to suppport an NHL team, wondering if there have been any comments on that.

    Niklas Kronwall

$5.5M is WAY, WAY too much for Kronwall. If you look around the league, there are not that many defenseman getting paid that much money, those that get paid that much are either clearly a step above Kronwall (Lidstrom, Chara, etc.), score more than Kronwall (Visnovsky, Markov, etc.) or are grossly overpaid. Everyone knows the defenseman out there that are making way more than they should be, so comparing Kronwall to some of them and suggesting he should paid the same won't work. There are several top tier defenseman than make a lot less than $5.5M.

    Brad Stuart

Not really, especially for Southern California. $2.1M for a 4,500 sf house isn't that much money. I just back to Toronto after spending a bit of time in California, most of which was spent in Newport Beach. Newport Beach is about 20 minutes south of Manhattan Beach (Stuart's old house). Now, Newport Beach probably isn't a great comparison as it is a pretty rich area, but just for fun....I happened to be looking some real estate adds as I was walking around (not because I'm looking to buy, just out of interest). Anyway, for 800-900 sf, you are looking at about $1.5M. To get something in the 2,500 sf range, you are looking at $3-4M. For 4,500 sf, I'm not sure, but I can only imagine...I didn't spend a ton of time looking at all the adds.

    interesting possibility

Where did you get this information? I'm not disputing it, just curious. I thought there was a one-year issue with a player being bought out being able to sign with the team that bought him out, but not sure about retirement. I don't remember seeing anything in the CBA on that. However, I think you may be right, but slightly off with Niedermayer. It's not simply that he didn't sign with anyone, he was under contract. What happened was that he didn't report to training camp and he was "suspended" by the team. This took his salary off the cap until he returned later in the year. Perhaps if he actually "retired" he wouldn't have been able to come back. Maybe we discussed this at time in regards to him being "suspended" and why didn't he simply retire, etc.
  6. "Might" have intended?? I think it was prettey obvious. In terms of Sedin seeing him coming and turning his back, I'm not so sure about that, he lost the puck in his feet and turned and looked to find it. I could be wrong, but that's what it looked like to me. Either way, I wouldn't lump this into those plays where the guy turns at the last second.....there is a decent amount of time where Eager could have very easily avoided the hit....not only did he not do that, he actually drove through the hit pretty aggressively. Personally, I'd suspend, but they probably won't. Bob MacKenzie suggested the hit isn't suspendable due to similar hits in the past not being suspended, but he went on to say that the league may look at it closer due to all the other idiotic things he did during the game. I'm not sure how this is "significantly" different than the Matt Cooke hit that got 4 games. I know one is "Matt Cooke" and that plays into it, but Eager isn't exactly a non-idiot.

The Red Wings in 2 to 5 Years

It is kind of scary that in 2 years, Datsyuk will be 35.
  8. Don't know how that was only 2 minutes.....I'm almost thinking it's suspension worthy. Sedin turned his back to get the puck in his feet, but that was quite a bit before the contact came.
  9. Around here? Yes, and the some.

    Holland or Yzerman?

1 - Holland is already an Executive VP I believe, so moving into a VP position would be a step down. 2 - While you may be right in that Holland is not as good as most people on here make him out to be, I guess that depends on how good people on here make him out to be. He's very good though and he has a lot of supporting staff that is very good, which makes him look better. A good boss/leader, always has good supporting staff, it's a necessity. 3 - Are you making Yzerman out to be better than he is? I think you have to be very careful to place too much praise on him just because the lightning are in the conference finals. He has made some decent moves to far, but he's largely been just getting his feet wet. 4 - Not sure how Yzerman being in teh trenchse come playoff time, slugging it out, knowing what it takes to win translates into abilities as a GM.

    Jaromir Jagr

Based on listening to Holland on the radio this morning, the Wings are definitely looking at getting younger, not older, so I think that would pretty much rule out bringing Jagr on board.

    Will Nicklas Lidstrom Retire?

He has declined, no question, but he still played at a very high level this season, into the playoffs. He's a Norris candidate, personally, I don't think he'll win, it's a tough sell being a "-" for the year, but we'll see. So, I think he comes back for 1 more year, but it depends on the following: - how does he fell physically now, after going through 2 rounds of the playoffs? Is he gassed? Would another 2 rounds have been tough on him? - how does he think the team will fare next season? If he thinks the team will have a good shot next year and he thinks he can physically put in the minutes to get through 4 rounds, then I think he'll come back, but if the answer is no to either question, he probably doesn't come back because there is no reason to come back for anything other than a cup run.

    Thornton slash on Z

I stopped watching after the empty netter, so I missed all this, but looks like Cleary starts it for the most part. In terms of the Thornton slash...really, we are talking about that, what's the big deal. Slashes far worse than that happen multiple times every shift, every game.

Is there a quick way to get the current roster's

Actually, here you go, all in one spot: http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/teams/roster/?hubname=nhl-red_wings

Is there a quick way to get the current roster's

I know this isn't what you are looking for, as you would need to click on each player separately to see draft position, but that shoudl really only take about 5 minutes or so to get through everyone. http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/leagues/seasons/teams/0000342011.html

    Fraser: Thronton didn't dive

It actually is "possible" that it wasn't a dive, but unlikely. Looks like the stick could have caught him between the skate and the shin pad, and if it did, speaking form experience, that hurts a hell of a lot. In all liklihood though....dive. I did get a bit of an amusement out of Franzen complaining about the dive though, I mean, of all players.....

Interesting trade idea - Alexander Semin

Semin is a sniper, no question, but beyond that, I see him as pretty heartless, doesn't give it his all when needed, very soft and I see him as a bit of ass....so, no thanks.

    Is Brad Richards an option?

He has another 4 years after signing an extension last July 1st. His extension will bring him within a couple months of 40 years old, it's paying him about $5.6M. Looks good now, but we'll see how long his legs hold up.

Remember When 3rd Period Leads Were Safe?

A part of me is glad that 3rd period leads are not as safe as they used to be. Can get pretty boring the way it used to be.
  20. Since when was offense the most important thing in winning playoff games?
  21. toby91_ca

    Ice time

I think it is because Nik isn't capabe of playing big minutes anymore. This happens when you get older. Maybe he can do it for a game and maybe we'll see that in game 4, but there is no way Lidstrom can play 30 minutes a game, night in, night out in a long playoff run.
  22. You don't think it's an issue? What I don't understand is why this injury was hidden. If hidden by Miller (i.e. he didn't tell the team), that's more understandable, but if the team was hiding it, I don't understand. Normally, teams hide injuries because they don't want the other team to target that injury, but I'm hoping I'm not going out on a limb in saying that an opponent isn't going to target someone's head because they know they had a concussion. If so, that's pretty bad. A football helmet is probably more protective from a purely structural perspective (i.e. may help avoid a cracked skull), but I'm not sure it offers any additional protection that would help you avoid concussion. There's probably just as many concussions in the NFL.

Ruutu suspended for clean hit on Erat

For what reason should Kunitz get more than what Heatley got?
  24. toby91_ca

    Pittsburgh vs. Tampa Bay

Probably gets 1 game, if that. Pretty much the same a Pronger's elbow a few years back in the playoffs and he only got 1 game is a repeat offender. If this was Cooke, different story. I'm trying to remember what Heatley got, was it 2 games or 1 game? If Heatley only got 1 game, hard to justify giving Kunitz anything because there is a clear difference between playoffs and regular season when it comes to suspensions. If he got 2 games, then 1 game should be the right call here. I haven't seen the video of the Downie hit yet, so not sure if that is worthy of a suspension or not, but with him, you are talking about a serious repeat offender.

    Raffi Torres suspended 4 games

I'm sorry, but there was absolutely nothing clean about that hit. The worse part about it for me was that it wasn't one of those unfortunate head contact that can happen because everything happens so fast. In this situation, Torres appeared to have so much time to be able line up the hit properly.
