Not only that, but they're saying what he did isn't as bad as what Simon did. Simon hit a guy in the face, but at least his altercation happened in the spur of the momemt. McLellan's was a premeditated act. Also, the goalie stick is much heavier and capable of doing more damage than a regular hockey stick. Anyway you look at it, either Simon got too much or McLellan didn't get enough.

I don't think Hudler did anything fantastic (He probably only had 2 shifts before the game go out of hand), but I agree with the premise of this thread because I don't want to change a winning lineup. He did have one play that jumped out to me. He made a really good play backchecking to prevent a point blank Calgary opportunity. Not to mention scoring points. I think Jamie McClellan wrote this.

Just means you're due for a loss. Edit: I do like the Wings in this one. They're a smart team, so they'll stay away from the box, and being home should help that. Calgary has yet to show they're capable of doing anything 5 on 5. Also, I think Z and Dats come to play today. Go Wings!

I'd agree with that. Of course, everyone usually looks pretty good on draft day. I reallly wanted to see Millen fired after the 2005 season. However, I will admit that I've liked the moves the past 2 years, and think we're finally moving in the right direction.

I don't know Timothy. I can't think of a single player past the 2nd round who's turned into anything. Even the 2nd round hasn't provided much other than Rogers. I guess it's a, "chicken or the egg" scenario. Are we bad because we haven't developed players or because the players weren't good enough to be developed? If Millen failed at anything, it was a failure to emphasize a strategy he believed in. I think he has that now with Marinelli, but it comes at a great price.

I was reading Kowalski on MLive and he doesn't believe this rumor. In his opinion, Rice isn't worth enough (Age/Salary reasons) and that the Lions wouldn't have room for him anyway since they already signed White from Tampa Bay. This would leave them with White, Rice, and Adams at DE. Also, in another article he says the Lions are wanting to pick up extra picks to move back into the first round, probably to get Patrickk Willis. I think the Lions dream scenario would be to trade down, take Adams. Then use those extra picks from the trade to move back into the first round and get Willis. I think those watching on Versus will be watching CBC too. The last game had CBC announcers and they only cut to Versus crew during intermissions. The CBC announcing crew did a terrific job calling the game, so I'm fine if they continue to do that.

Somebody needs to start a thread with the link to provide feedback about officials to the NHL. I thought it was just me, but it appears to be unanimous contempt for the way the game was called.

He's going through the same thing Dats went through last year. He basically missed the last quarter of the season, and he's going from light practices (mostly without contact), to the most intense games you can play in. Not an easy task. That said, we need him to produce, so I hope he gets the timing down soon.

Unbelievable hit, and it even led to a goal. What more could you ask for? We should be talking about how that turned the game around for us, but unfortunately Dan was one of the few Wings that decided to show up.

Good post. You're right, special teams lost this game for us. If we're going to win game 4, we need a whole lot more from the top 2 lines, and we need to be better on special teams.

Disappointing effort, disappointing result. The only line that showed much of anything tonight was the Draper, Cleary line. BTW, what a freaking game by Cleary. Can we cut his heart out and put in Lang's body? Also, the calls were horrendous. Yes I'm a homer, but I usually don't complain much about the officiating. I counted 3 absolute phantom calls on Detroit tonight, 2 of which led directly to goals. Why does this always seem to happen when we play in Western Canada. Hmmmm......

I like Adams as the pick,. From reading reports, he seems to be the guy they like, only they're afraid #2 is too early for him. I say screw that. If he's they guy you like, either take him at #2 or trade down and take him later. Sure they'll probably get hammered by "draft experts" if they take him at 2, but who cares. The Tampa 2 needs a good pass rush to be successful, and he should definitely provide that. The scouting reports compare him to Julius Peppers, only smaller. In fact, if he were a couple inches taller, he'd be rated way higher than Thomas. I also think he'd have a good chance of success on the Lions, because there's no way teams could double team him with Rogers in the middle.

I think the first period will be key. The crowd is going to be insane, and It'll be interesting to see if they have an impact on the officials. We need to stay away from penalties, especially lazy ones (do you hear me Samuelson and Lang!). It's also going to be intersting to see what happens with Iginla now that Calgary can get him away from Lids. This is going to be a big test for Schneider and Lilja. That's the Lidstrom factor. Games 3,4, and 6 of that series Calgary had the last change, so they were able to match him up against other defenders.

I've haven't seen enough of Edwards to judge who's the better prospect, but I will say that I really like Stanton. This coming from a UM fan. I think Stanton was hampered by bad coaching and teammates who didn't care as much as he did. The guy has the heart of a lion (no pun intended), he's mobile, and has good arm strength and accuracy. Maybe his decision making wasn't always the best, but I think that came mostly from the situation he was put in. If this guy played for an elite program like UM or (gulp) Ohio State, he'd be a top 15 pick IMO.

Neil is a great player, but I see your point; it's weird timing on Grape's part. Also, there were a ton of plays in that game yesterday where guys from both teams took themselves out of position to try and run somebody. It was entertaining as hell to watch, but I cringe at how horrible the defense was.

I think Bert needs to (and will) play. Lang and Calder haven't done much without him, and we need 4 lines in Calgary. I also think Sammy should sit. If you need a reason Babcock, look no further than who it was that took the penalty that let Calgary back into the game. Most of all, we need to keep playing the same way. If we do, it won't matter what the venue is.

Absolutely. To win the cup, you need contributions from everyone. In all the cup years, we've had guys like Kocur, Maltby, Drapes, and others non-scorers get some important goals for us.
