Holland has said in the past that in the new NHL, he would have to build the team around 3 to 4 players. Datsuk has carried us a bit since Zetterberg went down, which probably convinced Holland that Dats was one of those players he wanted to build around.

The contract is 5-Years, no salary mentioned yet. http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/artic...PDATE/704060452

That might do it!
-
I'll drink to that!

Yeah, Nick really has a bad habit of getting injured for the last 2 regular season games. I think he might have gamedoesntmatteritis!

Or it could be you can't produce any evidence, so you're falling back to the, "true fan would know" defense. Also, FYI, I watched Federov from his rookie year on; my age has nothing to do with the argument.

Yes of course. Nobody is arguing legality here; we're arguing that it's stupid. Or it could be you can't produce any evidence, so you're falling back to the, "true fan would know" defense. Also, FYI, I watched Federov from his rookie year on; my age has nothing to do with the argument.

You keep going on about how Federov was a whiner when he was here. Please produce some evidence of this fact. I'd even settle for an accurate example that's well documented. If he's as big a whiner as you say, this won't be a problem for you. Of course maybe you meant "winner"; that would be more accurate. As for the people that are screaming "why do you care if we boo." How about this, your classlessness reflects on all Wings fans. I live in Columbus; the hockey fans here are a step below Nashville fans, and even they know what little class we have for booing Federov.
-
Personally, I don't know how you can boo a guy who gave his heart and soul to win us 3 Stanley Cups. For those that are sore because he left; he did us a huge favor! His salary (had he signed) would have screwed us after the lockout. He either would have been bought out, or several players currently on the team would have been. Not to mention, Federov leaving allowed us to develop both Datsuk and Zetterberg. People really need to let this go!

Are we now calling Lang lazy in multiple languages?
-
Yeah, Ordonez nearly blew this one with some atrocious D in right field today. Bad conditions, but still not a good day for him. On the bright side we had 9 walks today! Also, Grandersen and Polanco are absolutely raking!

Wings signed Emmerton today http://www.mlive.com/redwings/weblog/index..._04.html#247207 So it looks like he's going to play for the Griffs in the playoffs; that should be interesting.

If Federov had his jersey retired here, he'd be the first player ever to be booed at his ceremony. I don't condone it, but you know it's true.
-
Unfortunately , I missed the game (work), but I'm a little disappointed our bullpen blew it. Oh well, only one game.
-
Thanks to everyone who keeps posting updates here! That's part of what makes this site so great. On a side note, it's great to see Howard playing this well. Hopefully the Grifs can make the playoffs, so he can make up for last years performance. It might be his last hurdle before playing with the Wings.

Good one; I agree.

The Wings actually offered more money to Sergei than Anaheim. He left because he didn't want to play in Stevie's shadow anymore. Federov was a great player for the Wings; I will always love him for his time with Detroit, but he doesn't deserve his jersey being retired. He gave up that privlidge when he chose to leave.

Have to agree with Redwinger on just about all of these. We're talking about the highest honor. It SHOULD be incredibly selective. I would use three criteria in selecting the player: 1 Were they a hall of fame level player 2. Did they spend either their entire career there (or at least a giant chunk) 3. Was the franchise successful during their tenure (doesn't have to be cups, but there has to have been success) Kudos to Redwinger for a great post

This is just another indication that Lou Lamoriello is no longer alive and is currently being impersonated by either Mike Millbury or Mike Keenan. This move reeks of desperation. This is the same as Pierre Lacroix making that horrendous trade for Theodore, because he thought he could recreate the Patrick Roy deal.

Opening day is here! 5 predictions heading into the season: 1. Bonderman realizes his potential and becomes a Cy Young candidate. 2. Verlander struggles the 1st half, but turns it around the 2nd half. 3. Our bullpen is lights out. Left handers, who needs 'em! 4. Breakout seasons for Monroe and Granderson 5. We finish with 95-100 wins and make the playoffs for the 2nd straight year. Great signing by Dombrowski. When you consider what Young from Texas got, I can't believe we got Guillen (who is a better player than Young) this cheap! I'm with you on Miller. I'm sure he's on speed dial if Durbin struggles.

I thought he looked really strong in the battles for the puck. Solid game.
-
You bring up a good point. When did Dats and Ovechkin spend enough time together to become best friends? Surely not the olympics, and I can't think of another time they played together.
-
Save our money and promote Filppula. Do you really think he needs another year of 11 minutes of ice time?

These "players hate Babcock" rumors just continue to fy, which tells me there is probably something to them. Brett might have embellished the situation, but I would guess there's some truth in there somewhere. I wonder how much of a role Babcock played in Shanny choosing not to resign.
